Thanks for the suggestions. I've never used ambient occlusion, I guess I should look it up and try it out. Area lights are a bit of a problem, they often come out looking, oh I don't know, would "grainy" be the right word? I read something somewhere about 7-point rigs, I guess that's some...

Now, if the debating rules here require me to have proof before even making a qualified suggestion to a post asking for suggestions, I will concede all points unless I can find some actual case studies. Let me know if that's the case. That should read: suggestion qualified by words like "might...

Frankly, if you left this post like this without that shit at the end, you would've been fine because you referred to get a lawyer to explain further which is the right course of action. It didn't matter that you aren't a lawyer and that you don't know. I see your point now. Thanks. I just n...

Well, first off I am using 0% ambient, and a 3-point rig. Maybe some of my lights are a little bright? Here is the first shot with only my primary light active, and here is the second (I haven't gotten round to fixing the turbolasers or the explosion yet. And no, I don't know why the explosion has ...

1138, writing 'I personally don't know' at the end is not a good way to present your thoughts. Making posts such as your response above to Zod is a better way and what you should've done in the first place. It was really in the interest of full disclosure that I said I don't know because I'm ...

If you don't know then perhaps you shouldn't suggest whether it does or not? Burning things in a stove hardly interferes with quiet and peace. I said it "might qualify as a nuisance", with the intention that the OP could look into that. And whether it interferes with peaceful enjoy...

Perhaps it was ionising radiation that caused genetic damage in someone or something, sufficient to set off the alarms, which Rodney had over-sensitised, so that the city went into lockdown even though there was no contagious threat. That's possible. At the end Mckay said he recalibrated the system...

People using their fireplaces in winter? I doubt you would get very far with that one. I was just going off of the definition of nuisance, which (IIRC) is "any use of land that interferes with the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjacent land". I'm pretty sure a lawyer can explain whether...

Greetings. I am Class of 2007, Computer Engineering (putting the C in ECE). That would mean my first year was Fall 2002. Yep, that would be the same year as me. In 1A and 1B, there were easily 40+ hours of lectures and labs, in addition to required tutorials. This did not drop down significantly un...

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with my phaser effects, and the only way I've found to make them work is to have the launcher stationary, hence no motion blur (Lightwave only renders motion blur while objects are moving; I don't know how to fake it for ones that aren't). About the lighting, I'm n...

It might qualify as a nuisance under common law, so you may have legal recourse.

Some suggestions: The lighting looks a bit weird (the dark sides of the ISD are kind of bright). It might look better if you toned down the ambient light level a bit. The bright parts in the ISD trench are a bit over saturated, as well. Also, the Enterprise could use some motion blur to imply motion.

I've heard a lot of bad things about Dell, maybe someone could shed some light on it for me? You don't have to go with Dell or any of the brand names for pre-built. You could just go to one of the small local computer shops and ask them to build a system for you. I've usually been able to get them ...

I thought it was kind of strange that ionospheric activity - which had no effect on Earth computers - affected the Ancient computers so badly.

RAM is cheap, so get 8gb of DDR2-800. Look for a Seagate 7200.11 hard drive, as that will help loading time a lot. This may be obvious, but make sure you actually have 64-bit software that takes advantage of the extra RAM. So that means a 64-bit OS AND 64-bit builds of whatever software you're runn...

Do I detect "Dr" Julie Wood near by?? Do you mean Judy Wood, who proposed that the WTC were knocked down by a space based weapon? I was reminded of that too, especially after having to discuss 9/11 conspiracy theories with people who don't think things through before believing in it. What...

First-year failure rates were the biggest by far. We started with 160 students, and had 80 at the end of first year. It seems a bit strange that a class would start with 80, since I don't think the faculty has shrunk or lost popularity since I was there. After that, the failure rate was pretty stea...

Chemical engineering, she started in '97 and completed the 5 year co-op program. In 1st year most of the engineering programs had common courses, and all of them as far as she knows were loaded up with at least 30 hours/week of lectures, plus labs & tutorials. Quite a few people were toast by T...

As of 2002 when my friend graduated from UW, the weeding out program for Waterloo engineering students was still in full effect. In her first year they loaded them up with 35 hours a week of lectures, plus labs, and wiped out nearly a third of the class in the first semester alone. By the time they...

Engineering school failure rates (esp. UW engineering)

I was reading that thread in the SW vs. ST forum where the guy was bluffing about his education. I remember Mike mentioning that a lot of people failed out of UW engineering, with more than half failing first year. I graduated from UW engineering last year and I don't think we lost more than 10 peop...

Sorry, I didn't realize there was no editing. By catastrophically I mean solar-system or planet destroying explosion. The Asuran city ship was already over Atlantis when it overloaded. It's been awhile since I saw the episode, so I don't remember how far it was from Atlantis when that happened.

Remarkably stable? Are you kidding? They can be made to explode by invisible amounts of explosives used by a race far inferior to their designers. Sure, they last a very long time, and appear to be extremely reliable, but I've seen nothing to suggest they're particularly durable. Well, they didn't ...

Additionally, the MacBook has far better battery life; over 30%, according to ZDNet: The M1330 ran for 2 hours, 23 minutes on our DVD battery drain test, using the included six-cell battery. That's not bad, but nearly an hour less than the latest 13-inch MacBook, a testament to Apple's emphasis on ...
