Re: Apple TV's Foundation

'Strange. Watching yourself being born' is hard to interpret any OTHER way. And assuming your information is correct it is curiously absent from the trailer so people watching the trailer wouldn't KNOW that I don't see what's confusing. Immediately after Dusk says he's watching his youngest self, w...

That wasn't Seldon, that was Brother Dusk. In this adaptation the ruling body of the Empire is comprised of clones of the original Emperor Cleon.

What do you mean by that last bit?

Re: Captain America: Civil War thread

What kind of annoyed me: T'Chala is in favor of a U.N. accord to require superheroes to only operate where permitted, then goes on to operate under his own persona without permission, (though I suppose you could chalk that up to his father's desires). The Accords only apply to the Avengers, and T'C...

Re: The Machine in "Person of Interest"

In the latter case, the Machine is effectively uncontrollable for all the usual reasons that AI would be uncontrollable- we can't predict how much or how little code it needs to run. And since it clearly has access to every computer in the world via the Internet, if the Machine ever decides to stop...

I mean in terms of hardware and power requirements. It seems to me that the scope of the Machine's responsibilities seems to be too immense for what appears to be (based on the season 2 finale) just one data center's worth of servers.

The realism of an AI such as the Machine existing aside, what are the level of resources required to pull off the kind of work that it does on a regular basis?

Kevin Feige - Head of Lucasfilm?

It was reported by THR that Kevin Feige now reports to Disney head Alan Horn instead of Marvel head Ike Perlmutter. What's really interesting is this tidbit from Devin Faraci's article on BMD concerning the news: I've always heard whispers that Feige truly craves the Lucasfilm throne, and this move ...

Re: Weakness of JJ Abrams as a director?

IMO his direction is just fine, he just needs better writers and script to pair it with. Orci, Kurtzman, and Lindolf didn't really help him in that regard.

Re: Star Wars: 2015

There was a question in the last thread about 2015 being a tight squeeze, time-wise. I'm not so sure: they didn't have to give a year for this today, they could have just said "in a few years", which would have left us in the same time frame but more defensibly vague. Obviously there's a ...

Re: No Ordinary Family Cancelled

The problem with these myth arc and comic book style shows is that unless your name is JJ Abrams, you don't have the luxury of dragging your feet or worse having no direction with your storylines. A general prerequisite IMO for these type of shows in the future is to have Vampire Diaries-style light...

Re: X-Men First Class Trailer

Beast? Mystique? In a Prof X / Magneto Origin story? Mystique is Magneto's closest companion in the original trilogy. She'll probably leave with him at the end, much like Beast with stick around with Xavier, and their relationship throughout the film will probably frame that of the elder statesmen.

Question about the super-speeder (I forgot her name). She says she does a 6 second mile but doing my piddling math on the fastest recorded speed during the pilot, isn't she faster than that? 716mph is faster than just doing a "6 second mile". Well, Steph was confused when she heard the fi...

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.

While SEED had a couple of solid swords, none of them had the sheer style of the Exia's GN Switchblade. Even the way it was attached to Exia's arm was cleverly done to ensure that it would never get in the way of the hands when they were needed. 00's huge GN Sword III seems like some kind of oversi...

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.

I wonder what's going on in the next episode though; in the preview you can see the 00 is launching without the Raiser, and it's holding a new type of weapon we've not seen before. Looks similar to the ones the 00 Seven Sword had. That's the new GN Sword III . It seems like an improved version of E...
