Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix
Kilgrave is in many ways still a ten-year old boy. The fancy restaurants, the purple suits, the nice houses, all these are Kilgrave trying to mimic being an adult, but not really understanding it. Hence why he demands that the chef at an Asian restaurant cook an Italian meal: like a child he doesn't...

Re: Revisiting the Starfleet officer:enlisted ratio
Possibly, by the time of TNG, Starfleet had begun to absorb exploration / scientific elements that were once relatively independent agencies. Here in the real world, the Public Health Service and the NOAA both commission officers for legal purposes. The reasons for doing so (Geneva Convention protec...

Re: General SCA Thread
*sigh* Despite the notion of an alter ego, we still have to keep one foot firmly grounded in reality. This is what makes a group full of military personnel so much fun: the obnoxious E-4 with no social skills and a high opinion of herself, who can't seem to grasp that a bunch of officers and senior ...

I made this month's mortgage payment last week, and my first thought was "If I buy the economy Darkwood Armory rapier, I should have enough money left over to survive the next two weeks." Dear God I am a sucker.

Re: nBSG ep 4.15: "No Exit" Talkback (SPOILERS)
Man, that hour went quick. Something doesn't quite add up. This episode explicitly contradicts Saul Tigh fighting in the Cylon War, since Cavil and Ellen claimed that the Five Creators were murdered and sent to the Colonies AFTER the eight humanoid Cylons were created, which happened AFTER the Cent...

I'm guessing the final five created the other skinjobs. IIRC, there were five priests in the temple that Tyrol found. My bet is that the Cylons found Kobal and the final five, and were modified in an attempt to reunite them with humanity.

Get him a girl. A high class girl. You can even have her dress up in a Slave-Leiah outfit to keep up the sci-fi theme.

Re: Joining the Navy
I have a question about joining the Army as an officer. My cousin's husband, who is the army, keeps suggesting to my currently unemployed sister, who graduated with a Finance degree last May, to enlist as an officer. I don't think my sister would go for it in any case, but my parents and I are scar...

Re: Annual Loot Thread
If I might ask - why? Stuff like nice soaps and perfume are perfectly normal holiday gifts. Because it says "you stink". A gift is a gesture. Tell me, what does it mean when someone gives you soap? Perhaps I took it too personally in retrospect, but that's how I felt when I got it. I can ...

Re: Oops : The pirate the Indians sunk ? Apparently not a pirate
Attacking the ports they operate from and levelling them (we can let the civilians leave first before demolishing them and poisoning the wells, you know) is really the only effective solution to piracy. You might as well go ahead and level almost every fishing village then since the pirates will mo...

Re: Ford can't seel 65MPG car in US.... why?
linked from here f ever there was a car made for the times, this would seem to be it: a sporty subcompact that seats five, offers a navigation system, and gets a whopping 65 miles to the gallon. Oh yes, and the car is made by Ford Motor, known widely for lumbering gas hogs. Ford's 2009 Fiesta ECOne...

Some of the other fluff written by Jordan an coauthors suggests that channellers were never more than 2-3% of the population. During the Age of Legends, channellers are likely to breed only with other channellers, because of the lifespan differences and possibly a desire to have someone who could un...

The planet most likely gets quarentined or outright slagged as soon as the authorities discover it. The ability to channel is genetic, which means that there would be a real fear that someone would try and exploit it. Even a small number of channellers would be a threat locally, and if you combine i...

Fasting alone isn't a good way to lose weight. It's starvation and that never works. That said, it can be very good in a weight loss program as an exercise in discipline. A weekly or monthly one day fast from sunup to sundown can give you insight into your own eating habits, and can be a way of enco...

Re: Stinky Gym Clothes
Have a small problem. I workout regularly and sweat profusely when I do. This leaves me with clothes that are soaked that usually wait at least a couple of days before I have enough to run a wash. The end result is that my clothes end up being smelly even after I thouroughly wash them. I've tried a...
