Re: Input for nice dress shoes for work

I actually own that pair of shoes in walnut. They are a little flashy and proper care is a must -- if you can't be bothered to shine shoes, don't get them. That said, I've found their shoes to be very comfortable for men's dress shoes. But my office isn't that conservative and I like dress clothes w...

Re: quick Free to play MMO questions

Rift is a pretty good F2P WoW clone, with the added bonus of all classes filling any role and being able to swap easily.

Re: Death Threats for Exposing College Athlete Literacy Rate

Here's something I'm curious about. Do western Europeans get death threats at the drop of a hat or is this strictly an (United States of) American thing? It seems insane to send someone death threats for something like this (or most any other reason) but it seems to happen frequently.

He was also related to a high-ranking member of the Manticoran political party that was most strongly anti-Haven -- if nothing else it's some additional embarassment for Manticore if the operation gets busted and it turns out the Prime Minister's cousin is head of security.

I think she's reaching through Doormaker's portals; basically using them to bridge the distance and be "within 16 feet." One of her themes has been novel combinations of powers.

I'm sure you've already considered this, but have you tried to apply for any sort of assistance? I have no idea how reputable any of the organizations are several showed up on a quick Google search, including some that specifically target service dogs for people with autism.

Yeah, and that booted to a message telling me to reset memory. Progress!

Tech help: computer makes long beeping noise when activated

My computer is making a long, continuous beep when powered on. One possible issue according to a quick Google search is a bad monitor or video card; I tried swapping out the card with no luck. The monitor is next, but what are some other possibilities? There have been no prior issues. Computer is a ...

Re: "Revolution" - new JJ Abrams & Jon Favreau TV series

(In the Stirling's Dies the Fire series, Nebraska and Iowa survive as states , so I would not be surprised if it is true in this series as well.) That's...odd. What's the reason given for Iowa and Nebraska being so resilient? They're largely rural and agricultural; areas with big cities were more o...

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta

This sounds kind of interesting, but when I see the phrase "keep sieges" I have bad flashbacks to Warhammer: Age of Reckoning and spending hours trying to push up a narrow staircase with fifty other people while a couple of dozen spellcasters rain AoEs down on our heads. That got old very,...

I like them, but mostly because the people who give them to me know me well enough to get cards I'll use. Starbucks and Barnes & Noble cards? Yes, please. I can always drink coffee and buy books.

Re: Biggest disappointment of 2011

I haven't done as much gaming as some people on here, and my disappointments have mostly been mentioned, but I'll repeat them: Dragon Age 2. I'm pretty forgiving and I enjoyed the first one immensely, but the sequel just didn't work for me. I never bothered to beat it even though I'm right at the en...

Re: SDN-dragons! (RAR, detailed)

To be honest, this is one of the few RARs I've actually found interesting and I keep thinking about participating but I haven't kept up with pen and paper D&D in almost a decade -- I just don't have the reference material anymore to really participate meaningfully, and as a low-post-count "...

Re: SKYRIM: Let's kill some Dragons!

I seem to be at something of a weak spot at the moment with my two-handed weapon warrior. Level 27, 75 smithing, full set of Orcish gear, 60ish enchanting. I was doing "okay" but now I'm running into these bandit leaders with steel plate armor who are whipping my backside -- the first time...

However, after due consideration, I'm enough of a taciturn anti-social bastard in real life that getting a personality shift towards brass dragon would probably be ...

Offer it for free to everyone would be the best solution. I can't really condone the idea of forcing someone to undergo such a procedure (though I can understand the temptation to do so). Limiting it to the wealthy would be a nightmare, at least in the short term since it would create a minority of ...

Re: Is anyone excited about Space Marine?

Tried to get a friend of mine into the multiplayer. Unfortunately we got 3 games in a row where the top 4 scorers were all on the other team and were cheesing it up -- plasma cannons, meltagun and thunder hammer -- and our team was getting absolutely destroyed. Since those 3 games were his first tim...

Re: Is anyone excited about Space Marine?

I mostly play a tactical marine and I don't see how you get the meltagun multikill perk myself. I almost never see people bunched up close enough to get multiple kills with one meltagun blast due to how short "instagib" range is and how long the cycle time is even with the first perk. Peop...

Final Vengeance, Dart? Fucking really? Lameass. Unfortunately there is no option to have Final Vengeance only work against plasma cannon Devastators. Thus, everyone must suffer for the sins of a few. I will admit to taking a perverse delight in landing right in the middle of a group of Devastators,...

The Ultramarines are from 2nd company. In the rest of the fluff that's commanded by Cato Sicarius, which generated a forum thread about when the game takes place and whether Titus predates or postdates Sicarius, along with a discussion over whether the FPS is even "canon" for WH40K. I susp...

On top of that, he did so based on statements by a creature...

Finally started playing the multiplayer, having a blast but the quality of the teams is varying wildly -- my stunning lack of FPS experience isn't helping matters.

The lack of a 'push to talk' button in multiplayer is a terrible oversight and everyone involved should be embarassed.

I don't get people just dumping their pets like that, though I'm sure some escape due to human stupidity (or avian intelligence, the little bastards are clever). I worked at a pet store years ago that had a few parrots, one of whom had been shuffled from location to location for years and had an ext...
