Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets
Who says the Borg CAN assimilate IoM tech? They've only ever assimilated technology similar or inferior to their own (their assimilation ability isn't limitless, see Species 8472). They assimilated the Spatial Trajector from VOY as seen in PIC S1, that's more advanced than what they had. There does...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
And I complained when it was in the trailer but I still really really hate every iteration of the 'everyone has to have their own unique version of Engage' joke that every NuTrek series has to have for some reason. The only place it even partial worked was Prodigy because that was literal kid doing...

Re: Reboot Star Trek
This is something of a necro, sorry but I found it interesting. I've always had idea in my head regarding this. Format would follow a hybrid serialized/episodic format in general. Think TNG's A, B and C plots... one of them will be a serialized story, but the serialized story could take up any slot....

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Given the Klingons showing up in this episode, I wanted to share my current headcanon on the various Klingons out there. I'm going with now that the augment virus caused alot of strife. It didn't just make the smoothhead Klingons. That was one possibility. As it spread, a mutated strain caused a dif...

Re: Alien Captains
Yes, this is contradictory with what Spock says in the original episode and what is reiterated in Star Trek III, but the apparent contradiction could be explained, e.g. by Vulcan customs of not talking about it, or perhaps the condition is transferred psychically the way it happened in the Voyager ...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Yes, as I've said repeatedly, I'm sure that's what they were going for. I just don't like how they did it. Like literally the only reason they are going with 'you can't fight fate' is because they have to to maintain continuity with The Menagarie. Any other trek story there would be some way out so...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
The message of the episode is "sometimes you really do have to shoot a romulan" and that just seems antithetical to what Star Trek is supposed to be about and people harped that SNWs was a return to form on. We took away different messages from the episode. I got a very heavy handed "...

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Coming to CBS All Access
I wasn't a huge fan of the S2 opener, but I do like the general aesthetics of the show. This is doing a MUCH better of job of being "updated TOS". I still wish it were a BIT closer to TOS... maybe alittle less greeblies here and there, I want Enterprise to have the straight nacelle struts,...

Re: New Star Wars Films announced. Plus Ahsoka
The indication seems to be that Rey was always meant to be Han and Leia's daughter, it is just that they made her something else when that seemed problematic, both because of Reylo and mostly because Carrie Fisher's untimely death combined with Han Solo's previous death meant that there was no one ...

Re: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (Spoilers)
I think the fact that it's 'below average' for a Marvel film, and the first one to be that for a while, is skewing people's perspective. I feel like that's an odd observation too... I think most of Phase 4 has been "below average". Black Widow was... like... fine? Completely unnecessary, ...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
That's absolute bullshit. There are no Powers That Be that exist in Star Trek. I'm not so sure about that. I mean, the Q exist. Lower Decks shows us that "ascension" is a fairly well known thing that humans can accomplish. It might also be less mysterious than that... we know for a fact t...

Re: Alien Captains
Considering the Cerritos has "Pon Far night" as an event (weird), I think it comes back to social conditions more so than environmental ones. There's probably a good helping of both. Hell, it's implied NX-01 had a few issues with their integrated crew of humans ... the mixing of different...

One also can not over look species psychological make-up. I can imagine a Vulcan (logical and detached) being on a ship full of super expressive and emotional beings difficult and challenging. We need only look at the snippet we get of life on a Vulcan ship to show this. Even a Vulcan who was ever ...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
I think the whole "trying to change the future" thing is a fairly common trope and I don't think the universe basically fighting back against it means that person sucks. It means... they have a predetermined path, and attempting to stray from that path causes problems. It does seem that &q...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
From what little I've seen of SNW I didn't get impression that Pike is suppose to "suck", more that for that event (if it's the episode I think you're referring to, they needed a leader more like Kirk and less like Pike), both Kirk and Pike have been shown to have certain strengths, it's ...

Re: Alien Captains
Humans are not, by and large, telepathic, especially strong, or notable for many other traits in which they excel but perhaps having physical requirements in the middle range and greater tolerance for those not of their species (mostly) might be their "superpower". This nails it on the he...

Re: New Star Wars Films announced. Plus Ahsoka
It's not that they are better individually, it is that they are often better collectively because there are more hands involved in the process. A huge problem in the sequel trilogy is that Abrams and Johnson were freely allowed to do just about whatever they wanted without any higher level of overs...

the old FASA Star Trek ships had species specific crewed FLEETS mentioned (i.e the Blue FLeet was ships entirely crewed by Andorians). We know from Lower Decks and DSC 100% now, although we knew as far back as TNG, that member worlds operate their own, independent fleets as well as contributing to ...

Re: Picard - general discussion [spoilers]
There didn't seem to be all that much resentment against Picard when he came back from a similar experience (if on a smaller scale) from being Locutus of Borg. And so far, there hasn't been any time to SHOW whatever resentment may be there. Yes, apart from at least two canonical examples of officer...

I really don't understand the hate this movie generated. It's not GREAT, but it's not bad. It's better than Eternals, Wakanda Forever, and Love and Thunder.
The "worst" part was MODOK looked silly. But. He's MODOK. He's supposed to be silly.

Re: New Star Wars Films announced. Plus Ahsoka
I do have a couple of small insights. In the trailer, Thrawn and Elsbeth are shown in a room (or possibly a ship's bridge) with a distinct style; one I haven't seen before, and which isn't classic Imperial. Also, in The Mandalorian Season 3, we learn that while Thrawn is theoretically part of the S...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets
Primarily being a Star Trek fan I can say... the Federation is absolutely FUBARed here. Just sheer numbers wise, the IoM could just spam the Federation, and the IoM won't think twice about scorched-Earth tactics and absolutely will see the Federation as heretics. The ONLY chance the UFP has is the n...

It WAS addressed, albeit in a sort of offhand comment.
It's not spoiler territory, i'll just broad stroke it but... Quill is not in a good place at the start of GotG 3. The events of Infinity War/Endgame are really critical to the story.
