Re: High-level scifi warships vs atmosphere
They can survive just fine. In Lord of the Night a 10,000-year old unmanned cruiser crashes into a planet. The ship survives without major damage, and the only passenger in stasis survives unharmed.

Re: WH40k Dark Disciple
At the end, (SPOILERS) did the Nexus Arrangement, aside from being able to block out the warp from an area, wake up the Undying One? So now Marduk has a pissed-off necron lord chasing him in a giant tombship? (/SPOILERS)

Re: Gaunts Ghosts 3 - Necropolis Analysis & Discussion threa
Page 59 The Magnificat was in mid-stream when the eastern sky lit up brightly. There was a sucking shudder, like a wind-rush over the water. The easter horizon blazed with a midnight sun. ... Gaunt raised a hand to shield his eyes from the glare as a heat-wash rolled down the river. He knew the bla...

aggg, trying to remember clearly, but as for exterminatus being permanent, I swear I read a short story where a planet's background was that it had been through exterminatus roughly a thousand years after the Horus Heresy, was recolonized only to be become an over grown jungle deathworld in modern ...

Plenty of people have met Omegon as he is the captain of the 10th company. The secret is that he's not just a space marine, he's a primach as well. Aren't primarchs a good deal bigger than your average space marine? Wouldn't anyone wonder why a Captain was half again as tall as he should be, or why...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is so hilariously ironic: it seems that the cabal's vision was a self-fulfilling prophecy, since it assumes that the Alpha Legion turns to Chaos. If Horus wins humanity dies and so on, but it assumes that if the Emperor triumphs it will be by only a slight margin–en...

Weedkillers? Really? I heard they were fungal-based, but considering their enemies (the technologically godlike Necrontyr and their C'Tan masters) I would've expected the Old Ones to have hardened them against chemical warfare to some degree.. Evidently not a priority. Observe that they don't insti...

They get to balance it out with other stuff though.... :D To be fair, the only reason a reasonable size ork force could potentially be stopped is because RL weedkillers do a number on them. Weedkillers? Really? I heard they were fungal-based, but considering their enemies (the technologically godli...

Well of course you'd like that. Most Imperial players would love that, simply because they can't stand to see a civilization that has hope and survives. They're too used to that sort of thing getting wiped out before the end of the paragraph. Wait, what? The Orks are my favorite race and the...

It helps that since the Tau are not very Warpy, they don't have to resort to the brutal methods the have been forced on the Imperials. The thought of the Tau slowly developing a psychic presence as humanity once did warms the cockles of my heart. They lack the faith, the ruthlessness, and the sheer...

Poison gas takes time and effort to produce and has its own problems, like hovercraft at the very least being NBC sealed-and if one of them runs off, manages to shrug off whatever tailing units there are, and comes back after the humans have resettled... they break the illusion. Assuming that the m...

Something like that. The Emperor was experimenting with usage of the Eldar Webway in the depths of the Palace. When Magnus the Red used his warpcraft to alert the Emperor to Horus' betrayal, it caused some bad ju-ju, and daemons started popping out of the Webway Portal. Hence the necessity of the T...

What I meant was, what powers do C'tan have (since they're obviously not psykers or warp gods)? My only experience with a C'tan is seeing the Deceiver trash a few servitors then get trapped in stasis in Deus Ex Mechanicus , so I'm a bit confused as to why they're so feared. After all, IIRC Cypher fo...

Offtopic question relating to this latest campaign: why are the Blackstones so important against the C'tan? Couldn't a vortex missile, psyker with that warp vortex ability, or normal warp rift kill one since the Warp is anathema to them? Related to that, what makes the C'tan so badass? Can they expl...
