Re: Herr Thanas goes to Australia (STRAYA)
Things do get nicer once August hits, though. It should be alright weatherwise if you do the more northern parts of the holiday first, and then go south later.

Re: Herr Thanas goes to Australia (STRAYA)
If you go to Adelaide, the South Australia museum has the world's largest collection of aboriginal artefacts. It was also the first completely planned British colony, so the character is somewhat different from other places. The architecture in the inner suburbs is also quite distinctive - plenty of...

Re: China High Speed Trains Collide: 32 killed
The accident is heavily affecting ticket sales for the high speed rail ( sohu ).

Re: Fear and Loathing of the Yellow Peril.
People who rant about the Chinese having never invented anything are hilarious in their implicit admission that they have never picked up a book in their lives (books being made from paper and the printing press - both Chinese inventions). Also, these days Chinese knockoffs do actually contain new f...

Re: China High Speed Trains Collide: 32 killed
Southern China often has issues with trains during the summer months. There's heavy rain, high temperatures and mountainous terrain, which leads to issues. Usually the issues tend to be things like minor the ground beneath the tracks being washed away, rather than train collissions though.

Lusy-chan: Being vegetarian certainly isn't for everyone, but I think most people could go vegetarian relatively easily, and (on top of that) most people who say they can't go vegetarian could if they wanted to put in the effort, but simply don't want to put in the extra time/energy to care about t...

You care? You really really care? Honest to goodness give a shit about Global Warming? I'll give you one simple thing you can do to right now to fight climate change: Go vegetarian. If you really care, go Vegan. This is good advice in general. Especially if you branch out into non-western food, it'...

Re: A question about Star Trek: Enterprise
I tried really hard to give Enterprise a fair go, I really did, even though the first few episodes were blindingly mediocre. Then they aired the episode where they tried to dress genocide up as the "moral" choice, and I never tuned in again. That's what made me despise the show, in any case.

While I extend my sympathy to you for what yo went through, you are a perfect example of why rape victims are not of questionable credibility. Not only do you start slinging around unfounded nonsense when you hear things that aren't unadulterated sympathy, in your case you leaven it with arrogant p...

Re: 1 in 6 female Australian students raped
Stigma doesn't just take the form of "blaming the victim", you know. It can also take the same kind of stigma that you get from suffering from mental abuse. Sure, people will be nice to you, but if you want to get a date? Well, you'd better damn well make sure they know you really well bef...

You're pretty accurate with your description of the hukou there. The system also keeps parents away from their children. Since children are registered under the hukou of one of their parents when they are born, they're expected to go to a school wherever their hukou is registered. I believe there ar...

There might be wage increases, but there's also reasonably strong inflation at the moment, which is pretty much cancelling out most of those wage increases. Personally, I think the CCP should repeg the yuan against the US Dollar in order to ease pricing pressure, though I do understand that a curren...

Re: 1 in 6 female Australian students raped
The reason that I rarely talk about being raped by my ex is because I cannot separate the rape from the two and a half years of abuse that surrounded it. The rape itself was not particularly more or less traumatising than, say, having him handcuff me to the basin and threaten me with a knife, or the...

And I also still remember the board's reaction to the accusations of rape against Julian Assange, where every action taken by the women i...

Was there any meaningful character development the 'real' Amy has missed out on this season then? How long has she been a duplicate? I think it might, just might have been when the Silence took her from the orphanage, and when she woke they said she had been there 'many dayssssss'. No. It was befor...

Nog also didn't really have enough money to develop the land at the time, and with him being just a kid and all, I find it hard to believe he'd have an easy time attracting investors to develop the land for him.

OK, this is where the stupid begins. The idea a person can "choose" their sex when they grow up. First there's physical sex - you are born with that. It's a fact. You can examine a child and determine if there is a penis, a vagina, or in rare unfortunate cases, something that's not quite ...

Even thought he Doctorganger will, once stabilised, become a near perfect replica of the Doctor, the Doctorganger's cells will still be "younger" than the original Doctor's, and would not have undergone any regenerations. The BBC's got to be starting to think around this stage, "How d...

Eh. That stuff was probably "it's the first episode of the season, and we have to remind everyone who's forgotten what this show is about that this guy can Time Travel". Also, it all seems like something that the cute Doctor would do. It fits in with his quirky sense of humour. He also pos...

1) Trade would be mediated through Grace and the rest of the xenobiology team. No no, I didn't mean that it was the ganger Doctor from the current episode - I meant that the Doctor used the same tech to make a regular remote control ganger and used that . Not a sentient living ganger, but one he uses as an avatar himself. So the future Doctor would be sitting in a harness som...

By and large, the First World Human Way has been the most successful way by far to organise human society. Both in terms of material prosperity and in terms of guaranteeing human rights and liberties. No competitor comes even close. Thus, I take issue with the various ideologues who think that it i...

Well, if they were apologising for choosing that sort of party, then I can understand why the apology is necessary. For one thing, the article only mentions sales men , which leads me to believe that one of the following is true: a) either this company is so male-dominated that whatever selection pr...
