Re: US Election 2008 Results Thread
I've spent the last eight years being ashamed of my country. I don't have to be anymore. And to everyone fretting about Prop 8, the early returns always come from the small towns, and exit polls are showing Prop 8 failing by a margin of 4 points. I wouldn't start worrying until LA and San Francisco ...

The biggest thing wrong with that picture is that Ted Stevens is leaving the courtroom without a new set of silver bracelets.

Re: "If Prop 8 fails, schools will teach about gay marriage!"
I just looked at Apple's and Google's announcements of their opposition to proposition 8, and I still can't believe my eyes. A few years ago it would have been inconceivable for enormous and well-known companies to spontaneously come out and officially support gay marriage. In public. In a tone tha...

Re: "If Prop 8 fails, schools will teach about gay marriage!"
California is indeed different from a place like Alabamba, but CA is a state with a lot of land area, and outside of a few major metropolitan areas it's all cow towns and agriculture. Prop 8, the measure that would recriminalize gay marriage in CA, is by no means guaranteed to fail, and is in fact ...

I'm not sure about a scandal, but it's definitely an overblown claim. The pipeline hasn't even been built yet, and she's carrying on like it's saved the country from dependence on foreign oil.

Re: Has McCain actually already LOST?
What possible contribution can these people make to a government controlled by the Democrats? Keeping us honest? The Republican propensity for making shit up to slander their opponents suggests that they *should* be all over any real, serious corruption like white on, well, the Republican Party. Co...

Re: Has McCain actually already LOST?
David Frum seems to think that McCain is a lost cause and that the Republicans should try salvaging what they can. And from what I've read in other places, the McCain campaign is going to disintegrate into a snake pit on 4 November. A lot of advisers are standing ready to lay the blame squarely on S...

Re: Has McCain actually already LOST?
Covenant, that's correct as far as I know. Businesses are not taxed on revenue, just on profit. Just like if you sell $50,000 worth of stock that you bought for $25,000, you aren't taxed on $50,000 worth of income. If you were, there'd be no point in investing.

Re: Has McCain actually already LOST?
Fuck...I've never made $250,000 in the last 10 years I've been singing my ass off. I could take that one sum and be able to nearly buy a house off in Downtown Toronto. Personally I think he's setting the bar a little high. I think it should start around $150,000 a year. That's where you really star...

Re: Has McCain actually already LOST?
A video of John McCain as a POW has been released. On the one hand, it's very harrowing and sympathetic. On the other, it shows McCain cooperating with the enemy to produce a propaganda video. He tells them who his father is and details about his mission. I'm pretty sure I don't have the stones to g...

Oh, so they're NOT just using vectors for everything? I don't have a good understanding of how the whole raster/vector thing works, but if it's 'resolution independent' on a display with a physical resolution and they're not either interpolating or calculating it from raw vectors, how ARE they doin...

Re: WV Voting Machines Switching Votes?
I've ranted on this topic numerous times before. Diebold is almost certainly guilty of negligence. If they're not, they should stop receiving government contracts on account of severe, almost unconscionable incompetence. Writing software to tabulate votes simply isn't that hard and doesn't require t...

Re: Third & Final 2008 Presidential Debate Thread
Just noticed one thing, I am dissapointed when Obama didn't mention nuclear as an energy source, yet at the same time, talk about BIO-FUEL? Agreed. That's the only thing I agreed with McCain about. This nonsense about nuclear power not being "safe" is horse shit. McCain said we've got sai...

Oh yeah, I forgot about crazy modern font technology. :) Resolution independence applies to the entire GUI. It's not just scaling up some fonts. All the UI elements have to scale as well, and consequently, they have to not look like ass. This also means that those little hacks that invariably make ...

Re: Third & Final 2008 Presidential Debate Thread
And Bill Ayers, the Republicans' October surprise and the staple of McCain's campaign, passes through the voters' minds without so much as second thought. If McCain was either (a) decent or (b) smart, he'd take these debate results to heart and quit whining about Bill Ayers and missed town hall meet...

Re: When to buy a Macbook
Perhaps more oddly noteworthy is that FireWire has been completely dropped from the new MacBooks. Not terribly surprising. Other than backwards compatibility is there any kind of reason at all to use Firewire over USB 2.0? From a purely technical standpoint, FireWire is a far better-designed bus. T...
