Re: Faith-Healing Parents Arrested for Death of Second Child
What I've come to understand, having observed the forum from afar for awhile, is that S_J's posting gimmick is to play Moderate Hero, but always in favor of the conservative position (I guess he thinks the forum needs to be artificially "balanced").

Re: Ron Paul wiped out on the stock market
Looking at IAM Gold Corp as an example, it looks like the share price has returned to its pre-crash level. In other words, someone who bought these shares at the peak of the panic after the 2008 crisis would have lost a lot of money, but for anyone who bought before then, it's back to business as u...

Ron Paul wiped out on the stock market
Ouch. I really do feel bad for him. I don't react from the gut with Ron Paul the way I do a lot of Republicans (including his kid). I genuinely feel bad for him, and I think he did have some pretty decent ideas, even if he framed them the wrong way. He believed in his idea to the end. That said, th...

Original Tea Party founder: it's over
Phil Russo is one of the original Tea Party founders who sat in on the conference call that gave rise to the movement as an organized force: I always defended the Tea Party against charges of racism. And then last week, someone with whom I am Facebook “friends” posted something extremely racist and ...

Re: Margaret Thatcher dies at 87
There are some oh-so-heartwarming tributes from American politicians to Margaret Thatcher on Twitter. My favorite comes from Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas: "The best way to honor Baroness Thatcher is to crush liberalism and sweep it into the dustbin of history. What are you doing this morning?&q...

Re: Gay marriage on the move in the U.S. Senate
Orrin Hatch has embraced gay civil unions. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/56112240-90/civil-com-gay-hatch.html.csp This is probably bigger than any Democrat coming out for gay marriage, considering that Hatch is a devout Mormon and was stridently against any kind of legal recognition for deca...

Hm, that might explain why Op Blessing aircraft flights were suddenly cancelled back in the late 90's/early 00's if someone caught wind of that little smuggling operation. My uncle was a mechanic on the L-1011 when suddenly he and a lot of others who worked on that plane were suddenly laid off. Ses...

I'm sure Pat Robertson just loves his "simple, humble" Africans, even if God doesn't: In the mid-1990s, Pat struck up a friendship with Mobutu Sese Seko, the brutal tyrant of Zaire. He took a trip to the African nation with a large entourage on one of Mobutu's personal planes. Then the gro...

I forgot to mention the eliminationist rhetoric of the host in that video clip: Eliason: You know Mat, as we look back to a term that isn’t new but they call them Log Cabin Republicans and that of course was the group that favored homosexual involvement and moral decadence, as I define it, but this ...

Re: Gay marriage on the move in the U.S. Senate
It's incredible how quickly it is becoming politically damaging for any politician with even a remotely moderate constituency to oppose gay marriage, especially given how recently the opposite was true. Two bits of otherwise-unrelated news on the gay marriage front, except that they both involve United States Senators and so could probably be grouped together in a single thread.
