I met someone who looks almost exactly like James Callis at a party in Manhattan. The only real difference was that his features were more sharp than Mr. Callis'. However, considering that the host was an actor who'll be on a Sci-Fi Channel production, I urgently had to confirm that this guy wasn't ...

The one thing that bugged me was the portrayal of the Geminons as ultra fundies. You know the scene "So and So you're from Geminon, you'd know the scriptures better than anyone is this true?" UGH. That would be akin to me going "Hasan, your people make bombs whip us up some bomb vest...

I have not yet timed the rate of fire shown for heavy guns in ROTS, that could alter this
When the trailer came out, I measured 12 shots per second from the Venator, but that's pretty much from all of her guns, and not the heavies.

SDN has a considerable amount of people above the 1.8 metre mark, I notice.

I'm 168 cm (5'6"), weighing 56 kg, and am 15. My adult height should be between 175 and 178 cm.

Watching that prick, Nedry, in Jurrassic Park climb into his Jeep under the impression that he'd just locked the dilophosaurus out only to find it in the passenger seat. Then in the sequel, Ludlow attempting to capture the baby T-rex, only to find daddy right behind him. The true poetic justice came...

Re: Andy?!

so are you saying that Andy is doing the motion capture for PJ as Kong in this movie? King Kong is credited as Andy Serkis. Andy Serkis studied gorillas in Africa in preparation for his performance as King Kong (which is to be done in the same style that was used for him to play Gollum in "The...

Count on Andy Serkis to produce motion that's not quite human, but at the same time, not entirely identifiable with an ape. Fortunately, Serkis is very used to running around in crouched postions and proclaiming his love to whatever's in his fist. So far, I'm pleased with his performance. It also lo...

ArcSoft PhotoImpression 3, a program that came with a webcam. I use this for layering, precise cosmetic changes, elaborate effects, and adding text. MSPaint for drawing from scratch and formerly for manipulating photos. IrfanView for filing, resizing, and changing color properties. Terragen for 3D l...

Re: Do you 'search on the internet' or 'Google it?'

Search or Google? I Google, but more because I like not dealing with gratuitous and menacing graphics, and the fact that Google is always constantly improving. Before Google became a phenomenon, I 'searched the internet'. Copy or Xerox? I use both interchangably. Vacuum or Hoover? Niether, since th...

I can't blame anyone who doesn't like that thing. That's not exactly the type of place I'd want to hold a party on or attempt to mop up. :P

Re: PT and OT VFX Changeover

So the question is a simple one: Say we have a new generation that hasn't seen the Prequels or the OT and they see it in order I-VI do you think ILM did a good job of not making the visuals so amazing in the prequels that it would make the OT look cheap in comparison? I see it more a contrast betwe...

I just went over the entire scene, which I was lucky enough to have been capturing on my DVR when Lucas was given his AFI life achievement award. The lack of urgency is inexcusable. Sure, we knew our heroes would survive, but they could have made it more clear that the Invisible Hand was attempting to break free of the battle and jump into hyperspace. There could've been wider shots of the IH to show that it was moving through the battle as ...

I think that back in the 70's, using wooden sticks, glue and plastic model kits, Lucas was able to produce a better battle than the ones seen in the new episodes In terms of emotional intensity, I agree; he already did it with the Battle of Yavin and had shown several Star Destroyers in combat. How...

You can get a lower limit estimate with fewer assumptions if you just calculate Grievous' GPE. Assuming that Grievous was thrown up ten metres under normal gravity, then the minimum energy would be 100 J/kg. If Grievous weights 200 kg, then the energy required would be about 20kj. Since Grievious sm...
