Re: To Boldly Go (Staff your own Starship)RAR
More to the point, an Akira is waaay to big. If you read the OP, it has to be approximately the size of an Intrepid : ~350 metres long (+/- 10% or so). The Akira clocks in at 464 metres as per Memory Alpha. The scale of the CGI mesh, according to a January 20, 1998 post in the newsgroup alt.tv.star...

I just realized I had been spelling Crichton's name as Crithon the whole time. I apologize for that.

Re: To Boldly Go (Staff your own Starship)RAR
Affiliation: Maquis. I hate the TNG era Federation and everything it stands for, especially the Genocide Prime Directive. I’m here to fight for the people, by the people, and with the people, even if most of these people have nothing to do with the conflict and some of them aren’t going to be human....

Re: DS9: His Way
Star Trek has never thrilled me with it's portrayal of extraterrestrial life, like Chuck said they feel like people with different cultures. And if that is the point of Star Trek, then I think it's wrong. Species evolve to adapt to their different enviroments, and as with humans, even they way they ...

Re: Is the Heresy how you pictured it? (40K)
The 40K galaxy is pretty big (wonder why?) and even with warp travel, getting from place to place is slow and unpredictable. I'm not surprised the series is being dragged on like this. After all this was a galaxy wide civil war that almost destroyed the Imperium. I'm going to have to go with how sec...

Farscape vs Mass Effect
So I just saw the Peacekeeper Wars and I have a burning question to ask. While I love Mass Effect to death I must know once and for all, in a contest of pure unbridled awesomness who would be the victor? This is isn't a "Let's put Criton/Shepard in the others universe" or some hyper-techni...

Re: OEEG - A Night in Sickbay
Truly a joyous Christmas has descended upon us. I figured Chuck was going to skip out on us this week being the holidays and everything, but not only do we get more SFDebris, and not only do we get a three-parter, but it's arguably the greatest piece of character assassination in all of television e...

Re: ODS9EG - Trials and Tribble-ations
I love this episode. It's fun and doesn't take itself very seriously. On top of that you can tell that the entire cast was having a blast with it. I think if Star Trek was more like this, fun space opera that doesn't take itself too seriously, I probably would be kinder to it.

Re: OVEG - Flashback
One of these days Braga has to stumble his way into a biology textbook and learn what the word "virus" actually means. I do like the sort of bookends with Voyager finding a gaseous anomaly while the Excelsior was out studying gaseous anomalies. And while Chuck does bash Neelix for thinking...

Re: OTNGEG - Where No One Has Gone Before
That's the second time in a week I've run into/had a discussion, on that word. Anyway I too like the matte painting effects used through out this episode. Too often with modern film and television my answer to "How did they do that" is swept away with the obvious "hurr durr compootars...

Re: OEEG - Dear Doctor
Truly, if one thing needs to change it's "science"-fiction shows portraying evolution in such a way. Babylon 5 did the same thing as did TNG and Voyger complete with "higher" and "lower" rungs on an almost literal "evolutionary ladder". I wonder how much in t...

Communication Device in SGU
So my friend and I got into a little discussion regarding the communication devices from SGU, namely the ones that instantly switch two people's consciousness instantly regardless of distance. I felt that it destroyed any feeling of isolation the show should have been going for, since now they have ...

Re: Some Thoughts on Creation/Evolution
The science against creationism is so overwhelming and covers so many spectrums (not just evolutionary biology, even if that's the one creationists have decided to attack) that creationism itself should simply not be tolerated in any place that has an iota of academic integrity. Would we react diffe...

Hurry up! I need a non-miniature one! But this does open up alot of very interesting avenues. For my Bioethics class we've kind of moved onto the subject of fairness and equal distribution of resources in health care. Obviously organ donation plays a huge part in that discussion, were even countrie...

Re: OEG TNG-Sarak
Man during the third season I started to wonder if Starfleet has some kind of named characters only policy when it came to dishing out the new uniforms. You have replicators so scarcity isn't a problem, but look at the fight in Ten Forward. Every extra has the old pajama uniforms, while everyone wit...

Re: OEEG: Regeneration
A somewhat decent episode, I guess. The fact that they have to fall back on a classic Star Trek TNG villain to generate any half-way decent story-telling really shows how little this show had going for it. They shouldn't need to bring out the Borg. Where are all the interesting new Enterprise villa...

Re: Star Trek: First Contact - Video Review
I think the reason Chuck's review is more of a recap with less analysis is because RedLetterMedia anaylized the ever loving fuck out of this movie, going so far as to explain every, single inconsistancy and plot hole imaginable. He devoted an entire segement to deconstructing the plot holes involved...

Fight seems a bit wonky. Predator is in his element with all his tech, were as Master Chief only has his most basic equipment. I'd give it to the Predator but this isn't a fair fight.

Re: OTNGEG - Pen Pals
The problem with the Prime Directive is that it there isn't , out of universe, such a thing as the Prime Directive. Nobody ever bothered to work out the actual terms and conditions of the bloody thing (possibly excepting 3rd party material, I never was much into the Trek EU), which resulted in stup...

Re: OTNGEG - Pen Pals
I don't know about you guys but I came to sfdebris to see Voyager and Enterprise get roasted. While I enjoyed how August was a whole month of Voyager, I tire of TNG. Even when it was bad, TNG was never quite as bad as Enterprise. That being said I find Riker's logic particularly distressing. What do...

Re: New Ultramarines Movie Trailer is out... and looks awful
If you squint hard enough, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within could be a 40k movie. It's about as true to 40k as it is to Final Fantasy. I think that's a terrible example. None of the Final Fantasy games have ever had very much in common. I always figured that was just more of the same. :P Final Fan...

If you read the Revenge of the Sith novelization it explains more about the Chosen One Prophecy. Kind of says, the Prophecy was read wrong and depends on who your talking to about it........ But you could also say that Anakin did bring balance to the force and it still is balanced. Before Anakin 5k...
