Publius's fan art
Given the convenience of an Image Shack account, now seems as good a time as ever to make available this author's otherwise-invisible fan art. Particularly given that the Domus Publica site is down, and the author needs something to do with his time.
Senator Palpatine et al.
Senator Palpatine of Naboo (Naboo, Chommell Sector/Mid Rim) pauses a moment en route to his offices in the Senate Office Building, followed by the senior members of his official family, administrative assistants Sate Pestage, Ars Dangor, and Kinman Doriana, and Jedi chaplain Master Jedi Jorus C'baoth.
Palpatine's appearance is taken directly from The Phantom Menace, and C'baoth's is taken directly from the cover to Heir to the Empire. Doriana's appearance is extrapolated backward from his appearance in "Hero of Cartao," and Pestage's from his appearance in "Reversal of Fortune." Dangor is wearing clothes like Pestage's, using his appearance from Return of the Jedi.
The Inner Circle
Some of the Galactic Emperor's closest advisors and courtiers take a moment to confer among themselves. From left to right: Orman, Baron Tagge, ruler of the powerful Tagge Company and head of the House of Tagge; Kren Blista-Vanee; Janus Greejatus, a member of the Imperial Ruling Council; Sim Aloo, the Galactic Emperor's senior political advisor and a member of the Imperial Ruling Council; Grand Moff Trachta; and Ars Dangor, the Galactic Emperor's wily lord chamberlain of the household and de facto regent ca 35.
The Lord Tagge's clothes are taken from his appearance in "A Princess Alone!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 30), with the holster he wore in "Doom Mission!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 26). Blista-Vanee, Greejatus, Aloo, and Dangor all take their appearances from Return of the Jedi, while Trachta's comes from "Betrayal" (Empire Nos. 1 - 4). Trachta wears the rank plaque of a Grand Moff of the Empire on his cuirass, but is not wearing code cylinders (cf. Maj. Gen. Maximilian Veers in The Empire Strikes Back).
The Court of Courts
A gathering of a handful of the most notable members of the Galactic Emperor's court assemble shortly after the appointment of the first twelve grand admirals.
At that top center of the image is (1.) the Galactic Emperor Palpatine, alias Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith and Sith Master, as he appears in Return of the Jedi. To his right stands (2.) Sate Pestage, Grand Vizier of the Galactic Empire, a privy counselor, as he appears in The New Essential Guide to Characters, (3.) Ars Dangor, a privy counselor, as he appears in Return of the Jedi, (4.) T'iaz, a dark side adept, as he appears in Empire's End (color is approximated), and (5.) Sim Aloo, Senior Political Advisor to the Galactic Emperor and member of the Ruling Council, as well as a dark side adept, as he appears in Return of the Jedi. Behind Aloo, in red and black robes with a chrome helmet, is (6.) a Sovereign Protector, as it appears in the Dark Empire Sourcebook (colors approximated), just in front of whom stands (7.) Lord Hethrir, Procurator of Justice of the Galactic Empire and a pupil of Lord Vader, as he appears in "The Deadly Dozen" (Star Wars Galaxy Magazine No. 8, differing from the clothes he wears in his first appearance in The Crystal Star, which are white). To Lord Hethrir's right stands the Central Committee of Grand Moffs, consisting (from right to left) of (8.) Grand Moff Bertroff Hissa, (9.) Grand Moff Muzzer, (10.) Grand Moff Dunnhausen, (11.) Moff Disra, and (12.) Grand Moff Thistleborn. Disra's appearance is from The Essential Chronology; the other Grand Moffs take their appearances from The Glove of Darth Vader. Directly to Disra's left is (13.) a Prophet of the Dark Side, as he appears in the Rebellion Era Sourcebook.
In front of the Central Committe is (14.) Kren Blista-Vanee, a privy counselor, as he appears in Return of the Jedi (15.) Grand Admiral Grant, a Tapani aristocrat and the so-called "Last Grand Admiral," as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals" (Star Wars Insider No. 66) (16.) Grand Admiral Miltin Takel, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," and (17.) Captain Thrawn, whose full name is Mitth'raw'nuruodo, and who subsequently became a grand admiral and Warlord of the Empire (his appearance comes from Heir to the Empire, although he wears the uniform and rank badge of a captain, as appropriate to this era; ref. Galaxy of Fear: The Swarm). A distorted and hazy image is directly below Blista-Vanee; this is (18.) Blackhole, a former Prophet of the Dark Side, as he appears in "The Emperor's Pawns" (Star Wars Gamer No. 5) Standing just below and to the right of Thrawn is (19.) Grand Moff Trachta, as he appears in "Betrayal," (20.) Janus Greejatus, member of the Ruling Council and a dark side adept, as he appears in Return of the Jedi, (21.) Grand General Malcor Brashin, as he appears in Force Commander (with a corrected grand general's rank badge) and (22.) Grand Moff 4-8C, also seen as For Atesee, as it appears in Star Wars Missions #13: Prisoners of the Nikto Pirates.
Standing to the Galactic Emperor's left is (23.) Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith and Sith Apprentice, formerly General Tan Anakin Skywalker, a dark Jedi Knight, as he appears in The Empire Strikes Back. To Lord Vader's left is (24.) High Inquisitor Tremayne, a dark Jedi Knight, as he appears in The Dark Side Sourcebook (colors are approximated) (25.) the Physician to the Galactic Emperor, as he appears in Empire's End, (26.) Grand Admiral Nial Declann, a dark side adept, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," (27.) Kadann, Supreme Prophet of the Dark Side, a dark Jedi Master, as he appears in The Dark Side Sourcebook, (28.) Gwellib Ap-Llewf, a dark side adept, as he appears in Dark Empire, (29.) Savuud Thimram, a Chandrilan dark side adept, as he appears in Dark Empire, and (30.) Inquisitor Jerec, a dark Jedi Master, as he appears in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. Behind Jerec is (31.) Master Ved Kennede, the Master Instructor of the Imperial Royal Guard, as he appears in Crimson Empire, (32.) Admiral Terrinald Screed, as he appears in Rebellion, and (33.) Sarcev Quest, member of the Ruling Council, and an Emperor's Hand, as he appears in "The Emperor's Pawns."
Below Quest and to his left is (34.) Grand Admiral Martio Batch, the so-called "Invisible Grand Admiral, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals." Facing toward Grant, wearing black and right clothes decorated with gold, is (35.) an unnamed member of the Emperor's Ruling Circle from "In the Empire's Service" (X-Wing Rogue Squadron Nos. 21 - 24). Just above him and to the left is (36.) Chief Inquisitor Loam Redge, as he appears in Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. Just above Redge and to the left is (37.) Grand Moff Ardus Kaine, a leading figure in the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order, as he appears in "The Pentastar Alignment" (The Official Star Wars Adventure Journal Vol. 1, No. 3), standing with his close friend (38.) Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Governor of Oversector Outer, as he appears in A New Hope. Next to Grand Moffs Tarkin and Kaine are (39.) and (40.) two unnamed privy counselors from The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, Second Edition. To the left of these two are (41.) an unnamed member of the Interim Ruling Council from Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood and (42.) the Suprema, a privy counselor, as he appears in "Death in the City of Bone!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 69).
Starting on the far left and moving toward the right of the picture, just below the Central Committee and Blista-Vanee's group, is (43.) Nefta, a dark side adept, as he appears in Dark Empire II (colors approximated), (43.) Sa-Di, a dark side adept, as he appears in Dark Empire II (colors approximated), (44.) Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," (45.) Governor Tann Starpyre, a representative of the Diet of Imperial Governors, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, (46.) the Prince Za, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, and (47.) Admiral Jeratai, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood. Standing immediately below Jeratai is (48.) Admiral Banjeer, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, and (49.) Kooloota-Fyf, the guildmaster of the Shipbuilders and Astromechs Guild, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood. Just above Kooloota-Fyf and to the right is (50.) an unnamed privy counselor from Return of the Jedi, facing (51.) an unnamed member of the Emperor's Ruling Circle from "In the Empire's Service." Above him and to the right is (52.) T'iaz again. Just above T'iaz and to the right is (53.) an unnamed privy counselor from The Essential Chronology (colors invented). To his right, wearing a garrison cap, is (54.) General Ulric Tagge, as he appears in "Saber Clash!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 33). Just behind Tagge, wearing a more common cloth cap, is (55.) General Skosef, as he appears in "Betrayal," speaking to (56.) Field Operative Ysanne Isard (here wearing an Imperial Intelligence officer's uniform, as seen in A New Hope, as suited to her rank of field operative at this time; ref. "Interlude at Darkknell," Tales from the New Republic). She would later succeed her father (57.) Armand Isard, Director of Imperial Intelligence, in his office (Director Isard is just below his daughter, speaking to Tagge; he appears as he did in "Reversal of Fortune," colors are approximated).
To the right of this group is (58.) Norym Kim, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, speaking to (59.) General Tal Ashen, as he appears in Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, and (60.) General Paltr Carvin, as he appears in "Mandatory Retirement" (X-Wing Rogue Squadron Nos. 32 - 35); Ashen is covered and Carvin is uncovered. Above Kim and Ashen is (61.) Plumba, as he appears in "Mandatory Retirement," while just behind Carvin is (62.) Umak Leth, Master of Imperial Projects, as he appears in Dark Empire II, and the white clad (63.) Dr. Silas Tagge, Chief Scientist, the Tagge Company, elder brother of Ulric Tagge, as he appears in "Return to Tatooine!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 31), and below whom is standing (64.) High General Cassio Tagge, another elder brother of the Ulric Tagge, as he appears in A New Hope. Below Tagge is (65.) Gauer, an assassin appearing in "Betrayal," and (66.) Jedgar, High Prophet of the Dark Side, a dark Jedi Knight, as he appears in The Dark Side Sourcebook, looking over the shoulder of (67.) Challer, as he appears in "Mandatory Retirement."
Above Challer is (68.) Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," speaking with (69.) Grand Admiral Afsheen Makati, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals." To Makati's left is (70.) the Prince Xizor of Falleen, Chairman of Xizor Transport Systems, as he appears in Shadows of the Empire, seen speaking with the like-minded (71.) Orman, Baron Tagge, President of the Tagge Company and eldest of the Tagge brothers, as he appears in "A Princess Alone!" and (72.) Grand Admiral Rufaan Tigellinus, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals." Seen over Tigellinus's shoulder is (73.) Mahd Windcaller, media mogul, as she appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood; behind her and to the right is (74.) General Sk'ar, as he appears in "The Last Gift from Alderaan!" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 53) and to the left is (75.) Spearmaster Ch'unkk, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, accompanied by (76.) his Cybot Galactica 3PO human-cyborg relations android as it appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, . Just above the 'droid and to its right is (77.) an unnamed member of the Emperor's Ruling Circle from "Mandatory Retirement," peering over the shoulder of (78.) Pollux Hax, chief of the Galactic Emperor's propaganda dissemination section, as he appears in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe. Directly below Windcaller is (79.) Grand Admiral Peccati Syn, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," behind whom is standing (80.) General Immodet, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood,
Standing to the left of Hax (i.e., to Hax's right) is (81.) Admiral Zsinj (seen here in an admiral's uniform, with his personal appearance from The Essential Chronology), twisting his mustache and listening to (82.) Grand Admiral Josef Grunger, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," while (83.) a Royal Guardsman looks on, in the uniform as it appears in Return of the Jedi. In front of Grunger, wearing a red tunic, is (84.) Ragez, Baron d'Asta, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, below whom is (85.) union leader Lord Manos, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, speaking with (86.) Grand Admiral Osvald Teshik, Supreme Commander, Azure Hammer Command, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," speaking with (89.) Kaja Or'Zee, Chamberlain of the Galactic Emperor's Private Residence on Naboo, as she appears in Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, (90.) the Cloaked Figure, a representative of the Secret Order of the Emperor, as he appears in TIE Fighter, and (91.) Dr. Bevel Lemelisk, Chief Engineer to the Galactic Emperor, as he appears in The New Essential Guide to Characters. Just behind Dr. Lemelisk is (92.) Xandel Carivus, a career bureaucrat, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, speaking with (93.) Grand Moff Bartam, wearing his distinctive armor as it appears in 'Betrayal," (94.) Burr Nolyds, an aristocrat, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, and (95.) Grand Admiral Ishin-Il-Raz, Chairman of the Select Committeeof the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals."
Ysanne Isard
Ysanne Isard, who has just handed her father over to the Galactic Emperor for execution and taken his job as Director of Imperial Intelligence, pauses to admire her new uniform.
Her character design is as described in X-Wing: Rogue Squadron.
The Galactic Emperor's Favorites
Captain Soontir, Baron Fel of the Empire, Admiral Thrawn, and Captain Tan Maarek Stele bump into one another at a social event while Tan Stele is on shore leave, shortly after rescuing the Galactic Emperor himself from the traitor Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin. These character designs incorporate some non-canon elements.
The Lord Fel, with his personal appearance taken from "Soldier for the Empire," wears the black dress uniform with with no ribbons or medals, displaying only his Saber Squadron bloodstripe (denoting at least 10 confirmed kills, according to the Death Star II Expansion Set) and the Naval Aviator's combat rating 'square' (awarded for successfully qualifying as a Naval Aviator under combat conditions, according to the Imperial Sourcebook; the appearance of the square is non-canon, using the gold pip awarded in TIE Fighter for completing all bonus mission objectives). Thrawn wears the dress white uniform he wore in Rebellion, with a pair of high-ranking full-sized medals of non-canon design, the chest badge and miniature medal worn by Admiral Giel in "Shira's Story" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 60) -- here the chest badge is taken as the emblem of the Order of the Canted Circle, although this is not canonical -- and a gold sash to symbolize his rank as a Warlord of the Empire (this embellishment is non-canonical). Tan Stele is wearing the Emperor's Will as seen in TIE Fighter, although it is suspended from a collar of non-canonical design; he is also wearing the Naval Aviator's combat rating 'square' and six medals for gallantry as seen in TIE Fighter (namely, the Medals of Redemption, Unity, Progress, Order, Loyalty, and Dignity), in addition to a red sash symbolizing his rank of Tan (this symbol is non-canonical). The Lord Fel and Tan Stele wear a post captain's rank badge, while Thrawn wears an admiral's; all three are wearing Naval swords (mentioned in The Star Wars Sourcebook and Han Solo's Revenge).
The Tribunal
The Tribunal, the troika that declared the ouster of Sate Pestage and briefly assumed his place as Regent of the Empire, considers their next move. On the left is Tribune Plumba, in the middle is Tribunal Leader General Paltr Carvin, and on the right is Tribune Challer. In a matter of days, Plumba and Challer would be murdered by Imperial Intelligence assassins, and Carvin would be bundled off to Lusankya.
All three characters' appearances are taken from "Mandatory Retirement." Carvin is wearing the rank badge of a high general, as he is seen to do in the comic.
Director Isard et al.
Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard, having recently deposed the Tribunal, consults with Osted Wermis, commandant of the Anaxes Citadel, while her pet generals General Tal Ashen and Grand General Malcor Brashin (seated) look on. Isard's character design is as described in X-Wing: Rogue Squadron. Wermis is mentioned (but does not appear) in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, and his character design is based on Captain Wermis, commanding officer of Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer, as he appears in "Dark Encounter" (Star Wars Vol. 1, No. 29). Ashen's appearance is taken from Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, and Brashin's from Force Commander.
Wermis wears the rank badge of a rear admiral, Ashen wears the rank badge of a general, and Brashin wears the rank badge of a grand general.
The Imperial Warlord Zsinj
The inimitable Imperial Warlord Zsinj takes a moment to pose for the benefit of his propagandists, cutting an impressive figure despite his paunch. In reality, he was never entitled to wear the grand admiral's uniform, being 'merely' an admiral, but the conqueror of a third of the galaxy need not bother himself with uniform regulations.
Zsinj's appearance is that from The New Essential Guide to Characters rather than that from Cracken's Threat Dossier. He is wearing a grand admiral's uniform, as described in X-Wing: Iron Fist.
Grand Admiral Thrawn
A thin smile begins to find its way across Grand Admiral Thrawn's lips as he collects his thoughts bare moments after being made Supreme Commander. The newly-appointed shôgun of the Empire has some ideas in mind. He is wearing -- mirabile dictu -- a grand admiral's uniform, and the physical appearance first given to him in Heir to the Empire.
The Chairmen of the Imperial Interim Ruling Council
Career civil servant Xandel Carivus and blue-blooded aristocrat Burr Nolyds flank former Sovereign Protector Carnor Jax, leader of the conspiracy that precipitated the Galactic Emperor's final death. In a rare concession to his humanity, Jax has doffed his helmet while Carivus and Nolyds look away. In rapid succession, all three would serve as Chairman of the Imperial Interim Ruling Council, each to have his reign cut short by murder.
Jax's clothes and appearance come from Crimson Empire. Carivus and Nolyds take their appearances from Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood.
A few non-canon characters...
Cingetorix Sector
From top to bottom (and left to right), character designs for: (1.) Special Agent (Colonel) Tallisibeth Chambertin; (2.) the Silver Fox; (3.) Josef Moff Powellyne; (4.) Captain Tan Percival Avonstale; (5.) General of ISB Gerard Tarkin -- no relation to the Tarkins of Eriadu -- ; (6.) Diego Antilles; and (7.) Lamont Powellyne.
Tallisibeth wears the standard ISB white tunic with a colonel's rank plaque (but no code cylinders), while Powellyne wears a dress white uniform based on Commander Akobi's in "What Sin Loyalty?" (Empire No. 13), with a Naval sword, the Emperor's Will and several other medals for gallantry from TIE Fighter as well as medals of non-canon design, the notional badge of the Order of the Canted Circle, the Naval Aviator's combat rating 'square,' and a Moff of the Empire's rank badge, as well as a marshal's baton (as he is superior in rank to a surface marshal; although not canonical, the baton has a semy of Imperial roundels instead of the traditional stars, bees, or fleurs-de-lys). Tan Avonstale wears a captain's rank badge and the officer's cloak, first seen in "Darth Vader Strikes!"
There is in fact a third drawing in the series leading from Senator Palpatine to Galactic Emperor Palpatine, in which Palpatine is giving a press conference shortly before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, flanked by the Loyalist Committee and the senior members of his official family, but there is one person missing.
And lastly, four drawings that have nothing to do with Star Wars: The Light Warriors, the Dark Warriors, Project Fate, and the Other Warriors.

Dr.
In front of Grunger, wearing a red tunic, is (84.) Ragez, Baron d'Asta, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, below whom is (85.) union leader Lord Manos, as he appears in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, speaking with (86.) Commodore the Lord Tion, as he appears in "Princess... Warrior" (Empire Nos. 5 - 6) and (87.) an unnamed member of the Emperor's Ruling Circle from "In the Empire's Service." Below them is (88.) Grand Admiral Osvald Teshik, Supreme Commander, Azure Hammer Command, as he appears in "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," speaking with (89.) Kaja Or'Zee, Chamberlain of the Galactic Emperor's Private Residence on Naboo, as she appears in Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, (90.) the Cloaked Figure, a representative of the Secret Order of the Emperor, as he appears in TIE Fighter, and (91.) Dr.

What happened to Domus Publica?Publius wrote:Given the convenience of an Image Shack account, now seems as good a time as ever to make available this author's otherwise-invisible fan art. Particularly given that the Domus Publica site is down, and the author needs something to do with his time.

That's got to be the galaxy's most wretched hive of scum and villany. A horrible bunch. But it is nice to see them in colour, yes. The imperial uniforms are particularly well colour matched to the films, I'd say.

The member of the Secret Order in the middle bottom (, his clothes bear a resemblance to the garb Bail Organa wore during Palpatine's speech announcing the reorganization of the Republic to the Empire. Nice little coincidence.

The Court of Courts is exremely impressive, Publius, not only in size but in the detail of care and research that obviously went into it.
And your impressions of Ysanne Isard bring up a point I'd like to make in general: Isard is described as being tall, slender, and very beautiful, though her eyes and general air of menace detract from her appearance as a beauty. Too many artists, to me, are overly interested in portraying her as a sharp-featured aristocrat and forget that, first and formost, she is supposed to appear nominally attractive. I think one of the few pieces of artwork that portays her to my satisfaction was her sketch in the Essential Chronology.
As a general statement, Publis, I wish a few of your portraits (such as Warlord Zsinj and Isard) are disappointingly small, and a portential for detail is lost at their size. The size of your first listed picture, 'Senator Palpatine et al' struck me as being close to ideal.

Yes, actually, although never received a reply. Notice Red Mage's sword and his, Black Mage's, and Garland's staves (only slightly more serious than the cameos by the Doctor and a Dalek in The Test of Wills).phongn wrote:Hah, I didn't have time to look at the non-SW art earlier - looks quite niftyHave you sent them to the eight-bit crew, Publius?
The fact that he looks like Ming the Merciless may be one of the only facts known about him, actually. He appears in a splash illustration on page 139 of The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, standing next to Darth Vader in opulent splendor, holding a chalice and a sword, with a dagger on his belt. No name or identity is given to him, and the picture is black and white, so the choice of red for his clothes was deliberately done to acknowledge his strong visual resemblance to Ming.Big Orange wrote:In "The Court of Courts" villains gallery, who is that Ming the Merciless look-alike slightly above Grand Moff Tarkin and a little below right Lord Vader, Publius?

No, the WHOIS record update merely lists when the record itself was updated. It doesn't tell us when the IP was last renewed or released.phongn wrote:This may be mere coincidence, but the WHOIS record for your domain indicates that the domain details were updated on 13 September 2006. Was your site down at that time?Publius wrote:Probably. If that's not an indicator of this author's general state of technical ignorance, well....
That said, the problem is very obviously a DNS error. Both DNS servers are active, but they're not responding to host lookup requests. That's why the site can't be accessed. A ping of the site also tells us that the DNS cannot be resolved.
What would be interesting is to use the IP address to try to navigate to the site. Unfortunately, I don't have the IP address offhand and there's no way of using DNS lookup tools to find it, since the DNS is broken. Otherwise, if I had the IP, I could very easily tell if my theory was correct.
For example - http://72.14.253.104 goes to google. If we had Domus Publica's IP, we could presumably do the same.
