[Member] New Nomination

Post by Edi »

I am hereby nominating Simplicius for membership in the Imperial Senate. It's high time we added to the ranks, and I have a hard time coming up with anyone more deserving.

Here is a sampling of our newest nominee's posting history, though it's by no means exhaustive. I'm just too lazy to go dig up every thread of relevance.

Link Seeking to learn
Link Education thread
Link Anotehr education thread
Link Neocon fall thread
Link Tharkûn's banning thread

It should be noted that Simplicius has a track record of keeping his mouth shut unless he has something to contribute that has not already been addressed, which makes practically all of his posts worthwhile reading and good contributions. It's unfortunate that his very first post on the forums isn't preserved, as it was auto-pruned in Testing. In that one, he went to great trouble to introduce himself, test the avrious board functions and make sure that he had the hang of things before venturing forth into the other forums. I had a feeling then already (yes, based on that single post) that his name would come up here at some later time. That time is now.

So, Senators, do we accept Simplicius into the ranks, or does anyone have a competing nomination?

Ordinarily, I'd say a post count in the 300s is far too little a contribution to the forums to warrant the recognition of nomination to the Senate, simply on the grounds that such a small number of posts is apt to become lost in the noise on the forums. However, the fact Simplicius keeps his mouth shut unless he has a serious contribution to a given topic indicates to me that his contributions so far have been far greater than what one might expect from a member with a low multi-hundred post count; similarly, he's set an extremely high precedent for himself, and he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would renege with spam on a history of pure contribution. In fact, his posting habits remind me of Publius, who is an esteemed member of this honorable institution.

I'll second his nomination.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Simplicius is one of the people on my "futute senators" list. I support this nomination.

Si.
Allthough he has not posted much, his posts are well written, well thought out and to the point. Above all his posts are clear and understandable to those who read them.

I would think Simplicus would make a worthy addition to this august body.

While we've a nomination thread open, I think Noble Ire would also be a good addition to the Senate, in view of his consistent contributions to PSW, and the ability to state a clear argument which often brooks no opposition.

Here, here, and posts raised in this thread are simply a few samples of several thousand quality posts to the forums. I'd like to therefore formally nominate Noble Ire for membership in this illustrious Senate.

Damn.

I already voted for Simplicus, but if I'd ever the time to make a nomination thread myself, Noble Ire was very high on my list of candidates.

I however, have yet to second or nominate anyone this month, so I'll go ahead and do it, and second the nomination of Noble Ire to the Senate.

I move that if no more nominations are posted in this thread before 5:00 pm on Sunday, 10 September 2006, we send these candidates to vote.

I'd like to nominate Wyrm. A few of the more recent threads with his participation include [PSW] Hoth's ecosystem, [SLAM] can't speed up light, and [SWvST] Dyson Sphere.

Shall we send these candidates to a vote now?
