Read the rest before clicking on this, else you won't get the joke (which isn't that good anyways).

It appears that eBaum's World was being a douchbag and stealing other people's stuff (this is nothing new I'm told). You're The Man Now Dog (ytmnd.com) to be specific. Before long the internet was aflame with the fires of war. In other words, ytmnd fanboys invaded eBaum's forums en-masse.

Hilarity ensues

More hilarity

Best one by far is this one.

I was watching the ytmnd site while this happened; it's amazing how quickly those people organized. They sucessfully DOSed the ebaum forums within a few hours, and before the night ended, hacked the main site. The forums kept flickering up before dying under massive amounts of ping. Internet artillery, indeed.

Those are pure genius. I would have really loved to see that go down. I hear Ebaum is a real dick.

Salute the brave souls who were banned on that day.

Of course, as a member of SDN, I do not support board invasions. Still kick-ass though.

Wow, those DOS Artillery-Strikes went down fast. YTMND must have a lot of dedicated, time-wasting users to get rid of a place with as much bandwidth as Ebaumsworld. It's like the place got farked.

Its a combined effort. I found this summary:

Quote:
Events in a Nutshell:

Everyone knows Ebaumsworld has had a long history of stealing; if you didn't, now you do. Recently they have had fights with Something Awful, but when they stole from YTMND just recently it sparked off a large chain of events.

YTMND users, furious, asked for help. Luelinks, Something Awful, and many other sites gladly accepted.

Forces planned for an attack on 12 AM EST. Word quickly spread after the attack began; Knova and Newgrounds happily joined in (Ebaumsworld has made many people angry, it seems). 4Chan, busy in a separate invasion of another site, also joined in some part with the smackdown.

The ebaumsworld.com forums were mercilessly obliterated. At first, there was just heavy lag, until the database crashed. Eventually the forums came back up, but crashed again. When it arose the next time, it prevented anyone not logged into an account from even viewing the forums and began mass-banning any new users. They quickly went down again, this time fully- the forums subdomain temporarily shut down.

It came back on, of course, eventually. As of this moment, the forums page stands at not letting any non-member in, but there are still hundreds - if not thousands - of invaders infesting every core of their system. The live chat rooms have been taken over by YTMND as well. Luelinks has been hit ferociously by Ebaums counter-DDOS attacks, as well as other sites. The ebaums site was hacked and every so often redirects to pornographic, offensive, and adult finding websites.

This hacking has continued through the course of the day, as has the raiding. The attack has lost some strength, but it is still going substantially strong. It might even pass the 24 hour mark in constant length.

Some GameFAQS users have also been suspended in relation to invasion of eBaum's world.

As a friend pointed out to me, what we're witnessing here is the Digital counterpart to a coalition of City-States (And really, that's what Internet Communities are) attacking a more powerful City-State who has been raiding their lands by squatting on their fields (ie. stealing their images). This "war" I think is a special case, and it's because this "raid" is still going on. Most board invasions like this last about four hours, tops. But this one's STILL GOING and is being accompanied by even more malicious attacks. All the while, others are joining sides and taking part. And most "forum wars" on the net are fought by one or two communities and its generally a private affair. This one however spans several communities and is getting quite a bit of attention. Also, the amount of coordination to this attack is rather startling. I mean, the whole thing started on a site without a forum, so this really spread through Speed-of-Type via Instant Messengers and other boards.

If slashdot jumps in on one side or another, its gonna get REAL interesting.

If we were to take the city-state war metaphor onwards, this is definately the Trojan War.

There was a lot of success at defeating the enemy on the field, and now Ebaum's World is huddled up inside their forums, trying to ban all of the spammers and vigilante justice attackers while being DOSed and hacked from the outside.

I got it from a board I post at founded by refugees from TK and TrekBBS. Forgive me if I don't supply you all with an address ;) Besides, you can't read it without registering. I'll go ask where the original came from.

All my submission is waiting for is a source for the article. If you want to see it covered, try making a submission yourself, as well. There's no guarantee mine will make it to the top of the pile.

I don't think Slashdot will be able to join per say, because I've ventured to the site and managed to get to their forums with none of that redirection stuff and seen that it's login only. And the report above said that they're banning new members and probably not allowing new ones in for the same reason.

However, the sheer, groaning weight of the traffic that slashdot brigns would surely help the DOS attacks on Ebaum's, since /.ing a place is like legally DOSing it in the first place.

Can't. I can't even register with them. My IP address has been banned even though I never registered with them before and have done nothing to them.

I joined /., and this is what I have; I'm still waiting for a link:

I submitted mine with the summary as "an uncredited post" and some speculation on the future of internet disputes.

You'll naturally tell us if this comes to something, right?

YTMND probably would have been satisfied with posting a few spam messages and randomly gross porn site inlines on Ebaum's. This is a much greater victory than I would have predicted.
