Is the live action TV series going to happen?

For those who have been keeping up with the latest SW news...
Does anyone have any idea on whether or not the live action TV series is going to be released or is it now vaporware? Lucas said he wanted to make one since ROTS was released, it's been half a fucking decade already...

According to what's been disseminated Lucas is insisting on film-grade quality, so right now it's way too expensive. It may have to wait until Lucas is dead and someone puts sane standards to it.

Everything I've heard about the TV show makes me think it's been done in an ass-backwards sort of way. Frankly I'm with Schatts on this.

I'd love for it to happen but right now I'm skeptical it ever will.
Ah, well, we've still got The Clone Wars, but its not the same as a live action series.

As pointed out in
this topic from September 2010, Lucas has it on hold "indefinitely" due to cost. Supposedly until the technology catches up to what Lucas wants and it no longer would cost $50 million an episode, it isn't going to happen.

Or we get the NuTrek version of Star Wars once he's dead. Whether that is good or bad will probably be up to individual opinion...

Lucas already has shit in place for as to what can and can't be done with Star Wars when he dies. IIRC continuation movies, reboots and remakes are absolutely out.

What about rebooting the EU?

HAH! SW is the sort of franchise hollywood loves because its well established and fleshed out and requires little thought. I'll love to see whether this actually follows through or not if Lucas actually did that. I can picture Lucasfilm execs n shit just salivating over the thought of George kicking the bucket and leaving the franchise in their hands to do with whatever they want.
Imagine a Mordor-esque Death Star that doesn't destroy planets with lasers. It fires giant exploding harpoons in them. And X-wings transform into giant lightsaber-wielding doom mecha.

It might happen to coincide with the 3D rerelease of ROTS or something. I dunno, none of us are inside Lucas's head.

I'd kill him myself if we could make that happen.

Lucasfilm execs are all beholden to Lucas as he is the sole owner of the franchise. Whoever he leaves it to I imagine is going to have the exact same power over the franchise and hopefully a similar line of thinking, if not necessarily, vision.
I don't fucking want to see Nolan Star Wars, or Bay Star SPLOSION or Tarintino Pulp Wars. I only want George Lucas Star Wars.
That said, that doesn't mean there can't be more Star Wars movies. It is just that the Holy Six are not to be touched, and as he said, there is no more story for Luke Skywalker. (Good) It's a big fucking universe people. Let's use it.

Well yeah, if someone who thinks like Lucas and isn't a greedy fuck (or just doesn't care about STar Wars) holds that power, then I could see it holding. *shrugs* Call me pessimistic.

Honestly? Nor do I. But the way Hollywood keeps "rebooting" shit just to keep making money off the same franchise over and over, can you realistically see this not happening to Star Wars?

YEAH! LEt's get Michael Bay to make it!

You know what... with the level and type of story Star Wars has... I would love to see Bay Splosion Star Wars space battle scenes.
I mean fuck it... lets just delegate responsibilities.
Nolan gets the Jedi.
Bay gets all space battles and droids.
Tarintino gets all space pirate/smugglers.
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp get the Sith.
Cameron can get some aliens.
Well let Tom Clancy oversee the Imperial/Republic military.
Speilberg can have some aliens and any little kids.
Feel free to add.

Somehow I picture Michael Bay's Star Wars ending up looking alot like the clone Wars Micro Series. I can't decide whether that would be kick ass or not.

In terms of levels of action, drama, and bad ass, the original Clone Wars shorts are probably the best the franchise has had since Empire Strikes Back, in my humble opinion. You could do a hell of a lot worse. They even managed to tell a good story, especially considering the time constraints.

How about Kevin Smith for the romance?

Ugh... dude, no. Have you seen his "romances"? Chasing Amy, where the charming comic book artists converts the lesbian? Wait... has he even done any other romances?
But, just no dude.

Come on, we can have Han asking Leia how many dicks she's sucked.
Seriously though, let's go with Nora Ephron or Kenneth Branagh for the romances. Or just Kenneth Branagh in general.

Uwe Bolle does Force Unleashed. Or Tie Fighter. Or X-wing Alliance. Or Dark Forces/Jed Knight.

I've only seen an episode or two when they first aired, though I'm pretty sure I have the DVD's, but isn't this also the series that brought Force feats the likes of which haven't been seen since Wankatine? I'll take a direction that keeps the Force mysterious, mystical, and sane. The aspect of the EU I hate most is the crazy BS treatment the Force gets. I swear some of the EU stuff I've seen or heard about has more in common with what little I've seen of Dragon Ball Z than the actual films the Star Wars mythos is supposed to be based on.

From a legal perspective, you can't control people from the grave (i.e. you can't leave money to people in your will and then tell them how to spend it). That said, I think Lucas saying that any sort of reboot or continuation or similar horrible shit is ... horrible shit and not what he wants would be taken to heart by fans, and they'd give such a very cold shoulder reception.

I was going to say that I would hope that any posthumous Star Wars material would be respectful of the source and the author, and then I remembered that we're talking about Hollywood so I laughed at my own foolishness.

Is it possible that Lucas might have one of his children inherit the franchise? One of his daughters already penned a CW episode I believe.
