How many of you don't drink alcohol?

I thought it would be a interesting question to ask. Is there anyone here who does not drink alcohol at all? Even if is is drinking in moderate amount during social events?

For me, I don't drink alochol at all, simply because I hate the taste of alcohol, and I hate the feeling of me getting high and being drunk. I also have a extremely low alcohol tolerance, where the smell of alcohol is enough to have an effect on me, and my face will start turning red.

I'm not completely T-total but I'm pretty close. I occasionally drink to be social but those occasions are few and far between. The last was in June when I'd just finished my last University exam. Since then? Nada.

My brother doesn't drink, and since he is reeeeeaaaallly reclusive... (Constantly has an ipod, an Nintendo DS and a paperback novel on him, eEeEven at a party) We tried to "Draw him out of his shell."

We tried having him sampling beers, we tried having him sample wines, we tried mixing drinks, all under protest all involving enormous amounts of friendly peer pressure (Me and my two younger siblings)

...and it turns out he's allergic to alcahol, just enough to make him sick every time he drinks. Who Knoew?

He didn't because he thought that was how EVERYONE felt when they drank and he couldn't for the life of him figure out why we would want him to get used to that.

I haven't had a drink as an adult. I once accidentally drank a bit of beer thinking it was apple juice as a kid (was pretty terrible, although it was American beer so I guess it doesn't count for forming an opinion).

Wait, actually, I've had one of those fruity girl drinks that are so light on the alcohol you can't get drunk without drinking ridiculous quantities. A strawberry one with a little bit of some kind of alcohol.

But only once. I might drink more if I went out to socials more, and if it weren't expensive as hell.

I used to drink occasionally and cook with liquor, but until I get better my liver is on shaky ground.

I don't drink at all. I greatly fear things that inhibit my rational decision making process, I hate fun, and I'm genetically predisposed to alcoholism.

I don't drink alcohol, ever. I'm stupid enough as it is, I don't need help.

Though, I did drink watered-down beer (cider?) and I would drink a gulp or two if celebration would call for it.

I don't drink. Sometimes I'll have a sip of wine, but I've never found one that actually tasted good. Also I've been either pregnant or nursing for the past sixteen months...

Same here. Except my last was in September or October, and I ended up being a co-dependent since this guy had seven bottles or something and ended up getting really unwell. Me, I stopped at like three bottles, and I had to haul his ass down the mall to the parking lot while he puked all over the floor (thank god it was at a late hour) so our other designated driver could drive him home in his own car. Barf boy was in no condition to drive home, so we had to enact the rescue mission and on the way I had to keep a plastic bag near his mouth so he wouldn't ruin the upholstery of his own car's backseat.

It was awesome. (No, it wasn't.)

I like Mojitos. That's about it. Get to drink them like once or twice a year.

No alcohol for me whatsoever.

I despise being intoxicated.

I don't drink alcohol at all. Can't fucking stand the smell of the shit, much less actually drinking it. I also discovered that I'm a belligerent drunk the one time I allowed myself to be pressured into it (might have had something to do with the fact that I wasn't enjoying the nasty shit, come to think of it), so I'll never do it again.

Not fond of the taste, not fond of the price, not fond of the consequences, not fond of addictions. So no, I don't drink.

A lot of Asians have a genetic variation in the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme, so they don't metabolise it as well.

I rarely drink, only on social occasions, since I feel uncomfortable losing control of my senses and I really don't like the taste. Before that I would never do it. It was only as I attended more social functions that I would drink. I could list the last 3 times I actually drank alcohol.

One was on the bus trip in China back to the airport. I was hoping it would put me to sleep. Didn't work.
Two was a fairwell dinner.
Three was when John Howard lost the election. Good times that, and it had nothing to do with the alcohol.

Similarly to quite a few other people it seems, I can't stand the smell or the taste of alcohol. It's much too bitter for me. There are some very sweet things like plum wine that I probably could learn to like, but what is the point? It's expensive and I'm perfectly happy with the expensive soda I occasionally drink. Those offer a lot less side effects.

Rarely. Mostly in social situations. And I've never even drank enough to be intoxicated.

My problem is that it's actually quite hard for me to find an alcoholic drink that I can stand drinking, not that I've actually tried many different kinds. I can't stand the taste of beer and most wines. I can find I can sometimes drink Smirnoff Ice, but by the time I'm on my third or fourth one, it begins to have this really disgusting aftertaste. And thanks to my size, that's not even enough to give me a buzz.

But the search continues, mostly by friends lining up to try to get me drunk at least once in my life :P.

I drink extremely rarely, maybe once a year or so. Even then, it'll either be a single glass of wine (the more common case) or else a splash of vodka in fruit juice (I once decided I should make an effort to drink socially - though my social circle doesn't drink too much - so I wen't every evening or two to a nearby pub and ordered a single glass of beer, a different brand each time. The conclusion was that I can't stand the taste of beer :))

First of, alcohol != intoxication.

I drink. I cook with alcohol, which probably doesn't count as it's small amounts and evaporates anyway; but I also drink socially. I like the taste of quite a few cocktails and do occasionally drink Guinness even if it upsets my stomach. I'll also try any drink people recommend to me.

I do, whoever, keep myself limited to one or two servings, because I know that's when I start to feel effects; I also make a point to take no alcohol whatsoever when there's a chance I may have to drive afterwards.

I'm also amused by people who say alcohol is "too bitter" or "they don't like the taste"; pure alcohol is tasteless - the taste of any particular drink is entirely determined by ingredients other than alcohol.

Pretty much my approach too.
I know my limits - and i define "limits" as "when the first effects of the alcohol would kick in".
I have never been anything near drunk in my life so far, and it will stay like that.

I never really understood the mindset behind people who vociferously reject ever being drunk. Obviously some people are alcoholics, and they probably shouldn't drink, others are just friendless losers who never have the opportunity, but there's that weird subset, rather well on display here, who seem to be actively afraid of doing anything that would loosen their grip on reality. This isn't an exhortation to get blackout hammered, but everyone can benefit from a little loss of control every now and then...

I occasionally drink socially, the most i have ever drunk in one night is three glasses of wine and half a Tsingtao. I also have no taste for hard liquor.

This will probably be somewhat surprising to those who are familiar with my rants about "drinking culture" and alcoholism, but I appear to be one of the most alcohol-friendly people to post in this thread so far. I only have a drink maybe once every other month or so, but I do occasionally drink, and we do keep alcoholic drinks in the house. At this moment I have a bottle of hard apple cider in my fridge, and some Disaronno and peach schnapps on the shelf.

I drink occasionally, but I'm hardly any kind of party animal. It takes me months to get through a 750ml bottle of, say, Cognac for example. I've got a six pack/case of Mike's Hard Lemonade in my fridge that's been there for the last week and I've got about two or three bottles left. I generally won't drink beer though, because most everything I've tried tastes like piss water. If I do drink socially I might have one or two drinks and that's it. I've never had enough alcohol to actually pass out or otherwise get completely drunk to the point where I had trouble walking.

Beer tastes awful and gives me a headache. I honestly can't figure out why anyone likes it. If someone told you that they were going to make a drink out of fucking BARLEY, you would not think "Oooh, that will be delicious!" People only drink it because they've learned to acquire the taste IMO, and because it has such a long European tradition behind it.

I didn't until about three years ago, at all, so I used to count. I mean, I'd have the odd bit of red wine at a dinner or a glass of champagne at a wedding, but that was it.

Then I started drinking because I was hugely depressed. I got better, but I'm probably an alcoholic now.
