It seems best to start a new World Series thread for tonight's scheduled opening game, though I've heard something about it raining all day in New York and that the game might be postponned.

It hasn’t been raining for like four hours, the field should be fine and no more rain will appear tonight. Thursday should be okay too, but the Friday and weekend is anyone’s guess with another front forming up in the Midwest.

Yeah, the game should get in tonight. And I'm vomiting a little in my mouth as I type this, but...go Yankees.

I suppose I will root for Philly since Rollins is from Oakland and went to high school in Alameda. I have to say I was pulling for the Dogers as I wanted Torre to stick the World Series trophy up Steinbreners ass.

So I see. It was hard for me to get an update on conditions with the sort of day I was having at the office.
Middle of the 5th and the Phillies are hanging onto a 1-0 lead on the Chase Utley homer in the 3rd. Sabathia and Lee are both in fine form tonight.

Chase Utley just hit another homerun on two strikes. Score now 2-0 Philadelphia.

And Lee gets another quick three outs to keep the Yankees shut down through seven. Score still 2-0.

Jimmy Rollins steals second off Phil Hughes on a 3-0 count on Shane Victorino (now 3-2). No outs.
And Hughes just walked Victorino, and that's it for Hughes.

Raul Ibanez hits a 2-run grounder with bases loaded to make it a 4-0 score in the top of the 8th.

Fuck! Cliff Lee just snatched a liner behind his back off Robinson Cano for out number one in the bottom 8th.

That and the Damon pop up catch are easily the 2 best plays of the night, home runs aside.

8th K in the 8th for Lee.

Cabrera flies out. Just another inning for Lee.

Brian Bruney gives up three straight hits and another run comes in to make it a 5-0 score, and that sends Bruney to the showers. Two out but two on. Joe Giradi sends for Phil Coke.

This was on Something Awful's Sports Argument Stadium after Lee caught that pop-up:

Ryan Howard doubles. Shane Victorino is thrown out at home but Jimmy Rollins scores to make it 6-0 Philadelphia as Cliff Lee comes out for the bottom of the 9th to claim a complete game win if he can keep up his pace he's managed through the last eight.

Looks like Lee may be done for the night. Three straight hits off of him and Jeter makes it home on a Rollins throwing error to blow the shutout. Score now 6-1 Philadelphia.

A-Rod strikes out to make it two away and the 9th K for Cliff Lee tonight.

Yeah, 0-for 4-roid's at bat might have made the decision for Cholly to let Lee finish.

10th K for Cliff Lee, who hangs on to complete what he started. Final score 6-1 for game 1.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Boy, and those fans couldn't get out of there fast enough. They were walking out in the 7th.

I'm rooting for Philly only because I preferred Cliff Lee over CC Sabathia when they were both right here in Cleveland winning Cy Young Awards.. AAAAGGHHHH CLAWING MY EYES OUTTTTTTTTT.. Now that that's out of the way, Cliff Lee and the Phillies really seem to have a swagger to them. They seem absolutely comfortable facing the Yankees, they seem relaxed, but focused. Granted, I got all this from watching highlights today on ESPN, but it just seems like they have something pretty special.

A. J. Burnett and Pedro Martinez are tonight's starters for the Yankees and Phillies, respectively.
In the first inning, the Phillies score first as Ibanez doubles and then Stairs drives him in. 1-0 Phillies.
And for fuck's sake, the Fox coverage is just shit, what with all this yakkity-yak gossipy prattle, seemingly for its own sake. Here I thought TBS was bad in the previous series.

It used to be a lot worse with the features they tried to use to jazz up coverage in the network's first season with baseball. Those have been quietly dropped but Buck (who is no shine on his legendary father Jack Buck) and McCarver can sometimes just suck the air out of the room.
Still a 1-1 game in the 6th with Ryan Howard just striking out for his third at-bat.
