LOS ANGELES – Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.
"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.

So does this mean they're going ahead with Ghost 2?

*strangles Garibaldi for the tasteless comment*
He knew it was a death sentence, but he went ahead continued to work as long as he could. He could act, he could dance, he could sing, he could do action, comedy, romance, and you really don't know it's him in "To Wong Fu..." at first, he's that sweet in drag. He was simply a great man.
The Light came down to shine on him.

I found this online, from the 1994 World Music Awards.
Now, 15yrs later, the song just has all new meaning for the two of them...

Man, I was really pulling for him to somehow beat this, as improbable as it was.

Honestly when my wife said "Patrick Swayze died" my first reaction was to call bullshit since he's been declared dead at least a half dozen times in the last year or two it seems. Having it confirmed is just a bummer.

yeah with seeing him acting on the Beast I was hoping he was going to pull a Zevon, and live years past what the doctors expected him to. Then again, he already had.
He was about the same age as his Ghost co-star, Vincent Schiavelli...

Testing beat you to it.
The more I think about it, and it is ashamed that we so often do this when someone dies, but his range as an actor was actually pretty damn good. And he certainly wasn't afraid to take chances with roles. (To Wong Foo, Donnie Darko)

Well it's a shame, but that's what you get when you down four packs of coffin nails a day.

Does smoking, not that that is a smart thing to do, usually cause pancreatic cancer?
Edit: Looks like it. About a third of pancreatic cancer is caused by smoking.

hey look at McQueen, sure the guy smoked, however he did a tour in the Marines where his primary job was tearing asbestos out of junked troop ships. He then proceeded to get into racing where the clothing was made out of the shit, his motor cycle helmets used it for a lining and he TV westerns on A-Bomb sites less then a week after detonations....

I'm sorry, but I have to admit the simple fact that the only Patrick Swayze movie I've ever seen is Red Dawn, and to me he'll always be Jed Eckhart, commie-machinegunning defender of the Reagan Revolution.

And a child molester as well. As I said, a very risky role to take.
We watched Point Break last night. Swayze was good. Jenn actually commented that he was beyond good and that you actually forget he is Patrick Swayze and he becomes Brodie much like how Tom Hanks becomes his characters as opposed to someone like Tom Cruise, who is always Tom Cruise playing a character. Fairly high praise from someone who is usually pretty harsh on movies and actors.
It's too bad Kenu-nu is so silly awful.
Also, I realized The Fast and the Furious is a total remake of Point Break.

You guys really need to see him in The Beast. He plays the best Burned out, Semi-Corrupt, Outlaw Biker, Undercover FBI agent.

Red Dawn was so terrible and one sided, but that didn't stop Swayze from being the man in that.

Is it me or does it seem that a lot more major celebrities are dropping dead this year?

I'm going to get crucified for this, but I have to point out the man kept smoking throughout his chemotherapy.
I don't wish cancer on anyone, but doing what he did practically guarantees you won't make a recovery. And the media keeps saying he "battled cancer for 20 months"...some example for other cancer patients...
