2009 NFL OFF SEASON

Since the old thread hit the second page and it is the road to an old Super Bowl... New thread.

That said, Fucking A. Cutler to the Bears and they picked up Orlando Pace, who can still pass block with the best of them. Them coupled with Hester deep, Forte, that defense and god damned Chicago, you may just have yourself a legitimate playoff team.

Now though, what do the Broncos do? Stick with Orton and see if he and they get better? Or do they use the 18 overall and get a new QB? I don't even think a top flight QB will drop that far as I doubt Sanchez will get past the Niners at 10.

The Donkeys have enough offensive talent to score, no matter who plays QB for them. Now they have two more 1st-round picks plus an extra 3rd-rounder to do something about their sucky defense. On top of that, they got rid of Jeff George MkII, which really pisses me off.

Can we just skip the next 10 years and have the rules changes that certain owners and coaches really want:

Incomplete pass no longer uses a down.

Any contact by a defensive player with an offensive player is a personal foul.

The defence cannot cross the line of scrimmage at any time without incurring a 10yd penalty.

The defence cannot wilfully or accidentally impede the progress of the offence, all they may do is swing Edwardian-era lullabies to them in an attempt to make them fall asleep.

I sense some cynicism, but I could be off base.

Losing three times to the eventual champions will do that to a guy.

All I have to say is, so long, Plaxico. Don't let the doorknob set off your gun on the way out.

I second this. It's bullshit. They want basketball games out there, not football. And god forbid Tom Brady get touched by a defensive player. Oh noes!

Although I am glad the Browns didn't go after Cutler. The price was too high and we don't need more distractions.

From what I understand, the "Tom Brady Rule" did not pass. The Boldin one did, but that's a logical extension of existing defenseless receiver rules.

Really? Everything I've read about it said it passed. I'm okay with the Boldin Rule, because of the key word being "defenseless."

I remember reading that it had been proposed, but all subsequent articles about new rules didn't mention that one in particular. Gimme a sec and I'll check.

EDIT: never mind, you're correct. We'll see if it's enforced.

I'm fine with the Tom Brady Rule as long as Tom Brady is required to wear a skirt while playing quarterback. What a fucking pussy rule. Fuck quarterbacks.

Its a completely fair and reasonable rule. Lunging from the ground can only get you a hit on someones knees. Look how pissed off defensive guys get when they get hit in the knees by QBs.

Hitting a defender in the knees is legal, though.

Looks like the Raitards are trading Michael Bush and a 2nd-rounder for Chad Johnson.

LINK

EDIT: FUCK ME! I've been had by The Bleacher Report, which is the Supershadow of football! :banghead:

Hahahahahaha. You jack ass. :P
However, if you hadn't have face palmed yourself, I would have went straight to checking this out. The trade actually seems plausible.

Feel the awesomeness of my 1st round mock draft:

1. Detroit -Smith, Jason
2. St. Louis -Monroe, Eugene
3. Kansas City -Curry, Aaron
4. Seattle -Stafford, Matthew
5. Cleveland -Orakpo, Brian
6. Cincinnati -Smith, Andre
7. Oakland -Maclin, Jeremy
8. Jacksonville -Crabtree, M.
9. Green Bay -Jenkins, Malcolm
10. San Francisco -Raji, B.J.
11. Buffalo -Brown, Everette**
12. Denver -Cushing, Brian
13. Washington -Oher, Michael
14. New Orleans -Wells, Chris
15. Houston -Jerry, Peria
16. San Diego -Jackson, Tyson
17. New York -Maualuga, Rey
18. Denver -Laurinaitis, James
19. Tampa Bay -Freeman, Josh
20. Detroit -Sanchez, Mark
21. Philadelphia -Moreno, K.
22. Minnesota -Harvin, Percy
23. New England -Matthews, Clay
24. Atlanta -Hood, Evander
25. Miami -Britt, Kenny
26. Baltimore -Heyward-Bey, D.
27. Indianapolis -Brace, Ron
28. Philadelphia -Britton, Eben
29. New York -Robiskie, Brian*
30. Tennessee -Nicks, Hakeem
31. Arizona -Brown, Donald
32. Pittsburgh -Beatty, Will

* This pick assumes the Giants don't trade for Braylon Edwards -something they were already trying to do before they got rid of the fucktard who shot himself in the leg. Robiskie would be a logical replacement, given that he's a coach's kid, has good character, and has good enough sense not to bust a cap in his own leg in a titty bar.

** Why all the other mocks have the Bills grabbing another DB is beyond me. They have no pass rush, without which DBs are useless anyway.

As a Vikings fan, I couldn't be more pleased by Chicago's pickup of a whiny pussy QB who quit on his team.

Then why isn't the NFL banning all hits to the knees? Either hits to the knees are unnecessary injury risks that should be disallowed against any player, or quarterbacks should have to deal with hits to the knees like everyone else. This quarterback coddling is bullshit, and it's even worse because you and I know damn well know that if it had been, say, Joe Flacco or Kyle Boller knocked out for the season, the NFL wouldn't have given a shit. Tom Brady wanking from the league and the media is bad enough without the league making special rules just for him.

Amen to that! Did they change the rule after Carson Palmer's knee got harpooned in a playoff game?

More league bullshit: Apparently, east coast teams find it too grueling to play consecutive games on the west coast, so the NFL made a rule against scheduling back-to-back west coast games for east coast teams. However, west coast teams can still be scheduled for back-to-back east coast games. Sometimes I wonder why they don't just go ahead and fix the games like pro wrestling.

That's complete and utter bull shit. What is so hard about traveling west and having to play a game? At worst they are playing it a little later relative to when they would play out east. The west cost teams have to deal with the travel and the likelihood that they have to play hours earlier than they would if they were at home.

Palmer and the Bengals really got boned on what could have been a Super Bowl run with that hit. The Patriots did just fine without Brady. With this new rule I'm going to have to root even more for hard crushing hits to quarterbacks. Maybe watch some old Dick Butkis clips.

The league still hasn't changed the rules about blocking to protect the knees of linemen has it? Maybe now that they have a new coach the Broncos won't block primarily by threatening the knees of the opposing line.

The one wild card here is the fact that Lovie Smith's level of tolerance for bullshit is in negative numbers. He does not put up with prima donna behavior or other kinds of bullfuckery. So maybe he can straighten out Cutler. If not, this serial coach-killer in the making will have bagged his second victim.

Fuck teams that depend on EPIC QBs to win, I am happy that bradey broke, I called it with my circle of friends and was quite vindicated, but on topic, which teams are looking to have good picks in the Draft?

I think Detroit should clean up. They have several early picks (including two 1st-rounders). Denver should also do well for the same reason.

That's a valid perspective. Smith doesn't seem to have infinite goodwill in the public eye, though, at least from where I sit (it's of course a pretty difficult thing to gauge). I am rooting for the chaos behind Door Number Two, of course.
