The ultimate (factory) Corvette

I've always been intrigued by the highly secretive Corvette "Blue Devil" project, now supposedly to be called the Corvette SS when it hits production. There has been no confirmation by GM except that it will be built for MY2009, but they are tight-lipped on details.
Several test mules have been spotted over the last two years, but this is the first time we've actually seen under the hood: The photos in the link above were taken by a Lufthansa shipping clerk in Michigan (who apparently has since been fired) of a modified Corvette test mule being shipped to Germany, almost certainly for track testing at the Nürburgring. As suspected, it has a supercharged engine (likely of lower displacement than the 7.0L LS7 used by the Z06; probably 6.2L) that will produce between 600-650 horsepower (knowing GM's notoriety for conservative horsepower estimates, expect the final figure to be closer to the high end). There are other indications that this will be more than simply a Z06 with a new engine dropped in, such as the ceramic brake discs on this test mule.
One thing that I wonder is how long it will be before the Corvette's RWD-only chassis (an AWD version of the current Corvette is not possible thanks to it's drivetrain layout, which uses a front-mounted engine and a rear-mounted transaxle) won't be able to use all that power because it's tires can't put it all to the pavement effectively: Even the massive 325/30ZR-19 tires currently worn by the Z06's rear wheels spin very easily under all that power, so I can only imagine how it'd be with SS 'Vette, which will not only be more powerful, but will supposedly also be lighter, thanks to even more extensive use of exotic materials than the Z06.
