Bunch of insurgents plan an ambush, and are ambushed by the very US forces they wanted to ambush.

Don't care much for the captions, though.

Looks like a collection of real and staged scenes to me. For one, why do most of the live attackers all look like masked white guys (untanned mercenaries?), for two, why did the attackers lose their masks when they died?, for three, don't most Iraqis prefer sandals over running shoes like on CNN? For four; why are they planning and driving out in broad daylight looking like Hollywood terrorists and Apache/Predator missile bait? For five, they just happen to buy it with their handicam rolling?

I can't comment on their voices, as I am unfamiliar with how the accents and language should sound. I assume the smooth editing was done by the distributers of the video.

Watching it again, only a few of them have no mask in the ending "yeah, we kickass" part with the shitty music. Chances are they were taken off by the people photographing the dead bodies, its not like those ski masks are glued on after all.

Because conducting an attack in sandals is a shitty idea? Also, they have what looks like a PKM and a couple RPGs, along with their other weapons, chances are they can afford some actual shoes.

Because chances are they have little education and barely any military experience? Its not like every insurgent has some sort of genetic memory of how to conduct assaults and ambushes you know. Because stupid people do stupid things, and if professional military officers can create monumental fuckups (Pickett's charge at Gettysburg for example, or the entirety of fucking World War I), what do you expect from people who probably haven't had military training and honestly think God is on their side?

Most US losses in Iraq are to ambushes, snipers, and roadside bombs. Whenever they fight us in a conventional battle, they lose hard. This is nothing new.

I doubt they expected to die. Also, if I was the cameraman, I certainly wouldn't think, "Well, I'm going to make a run for it, I'll make sure to turn the camera off first before I do that, so it doesn't film my death." I'd think "oh fuck oh fuck oh fu----"

The exact country this happened in isn't specified, and a good sized portion of the insurgents fighting coalition forces are, in fact, from outside Iraq. many are from Chechnya.

The US troopers took the balaclavas off when they policed up the weapons and took the pictures, obviousley.

I've seen all kinds of footwear in the pictures the other guys in my battery brought back from the sandbox. Iraqi military in sneakers, kids in oversized converse sneakers, old men in sandals, one guy in dusty loafers.

My guess would be they were chechens who preferred shoes to sandals, and weren't very bright.

Not every terrorist/insurgent/rebel/guerrilla cell we encounter is going to be Cobra material.

The funniest part is that they don't even rejoice when they kill a coalition soldier, they're content just to be a thorn in our side. like tossing rocks or blowing the treads off tanks. they think they score some great victory when they actually just piss us off more.

Right after that video, the soldier charged the sniper team that shot him.

Wounded both and took them prisoner.

I imagine that's because the Middle East is historically linked with Russia through Georgia and I imagine in ancient times you had tribes from the North who adopted Semitic culture but looked fairly Nordic. And most Semites seem to be essentially Caucasian anyway (I imagine you could get a group of Southern French, Southern Italians or Greeks in a room with another group of Israelis, Lebanese or Syrians, and they would perhaps be virtually indistinguishable from each other).

Not in the slightest; it seems to be heavily conservative. However, the person I was replying to noted that A) Killing brown folk like this is a Good Thing, admirable, and acceptable, while B) Killing cute little rabbits and puppies is less admirable. The dancing is usually a lot more enthusiastic too. The Feyadeen Saddam put on better shows.

No, insurgents lose on a regular basis. Usually to an airstrike. Most of the bodies looked real enough; whether or not they are the same guys in the truck is another matter.

The only brown guy in the video was unmasked and didn't look like an Iraqi Arab either; more like Morrocan or other North African mercenary. If these guys are for real, they are definitely not Russian-trained Rep Guard vets, which are the ones to worry about.

If they can afford shoes, they could afford real combat boots as well. Only western mercenaries pretending to be insurgents could be that sloppy in dress. There have been videos of captured fighters from Falluja and elsewhere in the news; their attire seems a lot less... hokey. For the most part they seem like regular guys till their hands are tested for powder residues.

It seems like a remarkable stroke of good luck that these bozos actually planned right then and their to carry out an ambush, and got wasted not more than an hour or two after playing with their toy cars, if the daylight is any indicator. With the handicam somehow running right at the point of ambush even though they have a limited battery and memory. Planning an ambush usually involves more advance planning even for amateur gang-bangers. Filming would only involve only the highlights. Getting away would almost certainly require wearing civilian dress.

There is really not enough to convince anyone who has been following the war that these are real insurgents wasted in a real ambush. True, many militias in Iraq go about masked. These guys stand out like a neon sign flashing 'rank amateur B-movie extras'.

There is no way Chechens in Iraq, who would have surely have faced off against the Russians, are going to bungle an ambush. Military screwups usually involve ignorant brass. Individual units on their own fare much better with no-one to gainsay their common sense and experience. There has been steady and consistent reporting that most Resistance activity is local and indigenous.

These people are not to be underestimated, and a video like this does not give anyone having to face them, especially if for the first time, a realistic sense of what they may be up against. The reason one respects an enemy, is so not to be caught stupid with him.
