Empire Hated? Pah

Post by NecronLord »

Having seen this post i feel the need to launch into a rant about imperial and Fed Politics;
TheDarkling
Jedi Knight
The empire isnt beloved its hated, the federation is beloved and thus sice imps already have problems on the home front they will remain.

You speak of current humans not ST humans, hmm an empire where people can be enslaved and crime is rampant or a democrarcy wher I am free - which would you choose? not that it matters because we know which one the feds would choose.
Firstly The Empire is hated?
There are numerous examples of empire hating in the canon films, Firstly We have various rebelys who "Don't love the empire" but instead "Hate it"

Next we have the end of ROTJ SE with vaious groups celebrating the death of the empire

-Endor
No brainer, these are the rebels and a bunch of ewoks

-Tatooine
They Probably disliked the empire because it curtailed their Criminality

-Bespin
Recently taken over by the empire, populance probably not keen on it.

-Corucant
This is probably harder to rationalise, but not impossible
Only about two thousand people [rough guess] are shown rioting here, on a planet with billions. They may well be a disgruntled minority.

On a normal imperial planet [Ref. Truce at bakura] the rebels are viewed with hatred and suspision and there is only a small group of malcontents.

Next we shall examine how beloved the Federation is.

Who are the people who love the Federation?
Starfleet officers

Who are the people who have an apparenton space transport in the tng era federation?
Starfleet officers

Who are the people who benefit from the Federation?
Yup Starfleet officers

It should also be noted the Federation also has slaves
In an episode of Voyager all the EMH mark 1's the federation no longer wants are used for slave labour in dilitium mines,

As a side note back in the days of TOS three people could man a fully automated dilitium mine, clearly the federation has lost some of its scruples

And on the subject of crime it should be noted the Feds turn a blind eye to having an illegal arms dealer on their station (quark in ds9) all except Odo who is not actually a fed.

Coruscant was the Imperial center, and the place of protest was jam-packed, so I'm assuming the citizens of Coruscant had something against the Emperor.

Those celebrators on Coruscant were probably all shot after the legions of stormies finally got there.

It's mentioned in X-wing: Iron Fist. Castin Donn was one of a team of slicers on Coruscant that helped broadcast the defeat. He says that the stormies turned up just after the statue of the EMp. had been torn down, and they pretty much slaughtered every1.

The empire made extensive use of propaganda to help keep citizens onside, similar to Nazi Germany I guess. The museum on Coruscant seen in Wedge's Gamble illustrates this.

*Holding said book in his hand

Good point I total forgot about that, The popluation of Courscant is doing its best to ignore the one so to speak, Corran comments on it a few times everyone is trying to pretend nothing out of the ordinary is happing and I'm guessing in 1943 Berlin people did much the same thing

The arms dealing shop wasn't actually illegal, at least according to the letter of the law. No weapons were actually changing hands in the Bajoran system, if they were then it would violate local laws and the Federation could so something about it, but unless there were actual weapons around their hands were tied. They weren't happy about it, and they sure as hell didn't turn a blind eye to it, but there simply wasn't anything they could do. As for Quark, Odo kept him check and they never really could gather the evidence to put him behind a force field.

On at least one occassion I think they did have the evidence, but it was for something minor so he just spent a few weeks in the brig although this is just from memory, so I might be mistaken.

I seem to recall someone in the X-Wing series visiting the museum. From what I remember, it was just anti-imperial propaganda. Sure Gavin or whoever it was didn't think it was too, bad, but the description of the exhibit showed otherwise, at leas in my mind.

I'll have a check for a proper reference.

But it does show that hatred of the Empire was aided by the new regime.

It definitely wasn't universally hated - in Hand of Thrawn, Pellaeon seemed convinced that some systems in the New Republic would be keen on returning to the Empire. That I'm sure of.

A strong military force was enough to prevent uprisings, and prevent war (With the exception of the Rebellion).

A strong Military force was enough to prevent uprisings apart from that one that caused the entire empire to collapse.

again, due to the emperor's arrogance far more then the imperial fleet's quality.

I personally like the empire. it's pro human (yay!) and most definatly keeps the peace. I would be surprised if space faring humanity treated aliens that different from the star wars series. humanity, it seems, enjoys enslaving/destroying new cultures, and all those aliens in space fit the bill.

on a side note, it's similar to simon r green's empire (good series).
