Time to continue my USA photo trips threads

.
San Francisco PT1: Alcatraz Island. Feared by the public and even used as a civil rights project. Also, a seagull that stalked the ferry.

I love the two seagull shots (even though the actual birds are annoying >_>), and the last shot almost is amazing - the far left building just looks kinda weird. Not sure what I think about the brick... it's brick.

Yup. I amassed a small collection of seagull shot on that ferry, a trio of the birds followed us. (The whole island is now a bird sanctuary).

I just liked the shape and form of the stone. Nice and red

.
Something got fucked up in a lot of the shots though, they're hideously soft, no idea why, the AF was working and the ISO and DOF were both reasonable.

These are pretty standard travel photos. IMG_0280 is very composed, but otherwise doesn't stand out. IMG_0252 is a good idea, but I don't like the tilt and I don't like the empty area of sky, especially when so much is just blank fog.

A lot of my big or city shots came out very badly from this trip, especially when I was in a lot of places for very short periods of time, leaving me dependent on random weather. I was in "momento" mode for most of the pictures really.
The pictures of the golden gate bridge were pretty damn sweet, and the animals, give me that much

Man, sitting on that Alcatraz toilet must have been PAINFUL.
okay, in all seriousness, nice photography. Fairly standard subjects, but nice.
I have to admit though, you managed to make those birds look graceful, and not like flying rats.

Not as much as digging through the back of it and the AC with a spoon

. (This was one of the cells where the trio broke out of Alcatraz from, via digging a tunnel with spoons).

My thoughts in some of the cases.

Hey, don't knock the seagulls. Feel free to knock off pidgeons with a hunting rifle though, but not seagulls

So what's the deal with the "Indians Welcome" on the wall?

Heh, same question I keep getting asked elsewhere

.
In the 60s, after Alcatraz was shut down (it was expensive to maintain, especially due to the lack of integrated sewage, the place had been originally built in the previous century as a fort), a bunch of Native Americans came over and settled there to protest the treatment of the Indians by the palefaces.
They got a lot of publicity, and it worked pretty well, as they got a ton of supplies and visits from supporters until one of the Indians had the brilliant idea of protesting by... burning down the camp.
That kinda reduced their support and they ended up leaving.

I'm glad that you didn't get taken hostage by mutinying Marines armed with flesh-eating nerve gas, DAETH.

Yeah. I hate self injecting.
