Books on the occult

Post by Crom »

I was thinking about doing some research into magic and the occult. Has anyone read any good books on the subject?

I forget who it's by, but Personal Reality would probably be a good one (it's been reccommended to myself a couple of times).

Do What Thou Wilt is a biography on Aleister Crowley.

I'll have to go through my stuff and look up more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Hmm ... actually the only thing I have been told, by my girlfriend at least, is to stay away from Crowley.

Thanks. I have a book called the Kybalion, it's supposedly on Hermetic philosophy. Haven't quite figured it out yet.

What about "Lucifer Rising" by Gavin Baddeley?

I haven't read it, but from what I've read it seems like it's worth its price.

But STEER CLEAR of anything by William Schnoebeln!!

Stay away from any leather-bound volumes titled "Al-Azif."

I reccomend 'Natural Magic' by Pamela J. Ball for a good perspective of the Wicca/Paganism side of things.

People say to stay away from Crowley because he was an egomaniacal bastard. This wasn't written by Aleister Crowley; it's a biography on him.

Actually, to make sense it should be called "Kitab al-Azif", which means something like "the howling of the demons".
