Okay, when Bruce is captured and is taken to the big underground military complex, we see just how big it is and how it can seal itself. My question is, what is the purpose of that facility, why would you build such a base in the first place, it didn't seem to have any purpose. Anyone know?

It looks like at least in part they were using it to do extremely classified, and probably dangerous research.
