Having just plunged wide-eyed into the world of HD gaming for the first time thanks to a gifted Xbox 360, I need some games to go with it. It came with Halo Reach, but I'd like to bulk out my collection a little.

I don't own a 360, but I'll name the multi-platform games I enjoy roughly in order of recommendation:
-Batman: Arkham Asylum and City
-Dark Souls
-The Orange Box, Left 4 Dead 2, and Portal 2 (though I'd recommend those on PC if possible)
-Red Dead Redemption
-Assassin's Creed II and if you really like it, Brotherhood
-Mass Effect 2 (didn't care much for 1)
-Dead Space 1 & 2
-Vanquish
-Burnout: Paradise
-Alpha Protocol
And for XBLA:
Braid
Outland
Bastion

Gears of War 1 and 2 are great, if you can only have one go with Gears 2. I haven't played Gears 3 yet so I can't give a recommendation one way or another.

Thanks for the suggestions so far all, also, I can't believe how cheap the games are now. I remember them being £35-50 when the 360 came out, saw several games at £1 today XD
