Ender; unless you're 4 ft tall then that weight is positively light.

I went down from 200 lbs to just under 190 lbs, mostly by eating only a little (on my own) at lunchtime instead of a full lunch. This worked until mid-October,when I got transferred to a new project and office in town by all the shops. My new colleagues keep inviting me to lunch with them, sometimes even at no cost to me, and I suck at turning down freebies. Then all the Christmas meals and boozing came in. Between those I've returned straight back to 200 by mid December. :wtf:

However, I have started to get some good results in managing intake just this week by eating slower at my meals. Right now I have a half-full plate in front of me to put in the bin as a result. If you haven't tried this, it definitely seems a good way to reduce calorie intake without having to give up tasty foods. Going to try and go into the new year using this as a strategy for my main evening meal, while also trying to remember what the concept of willpower is when getting invites to go eat...

Was 184 pounds this morning, lightest I've been in a long time.

As of tomorrow I'm starting on a Venutto-type diet and some intense training (5-6 days a week of BJJ and Vale Tudo/MMA, as well as running, weights and body-weight excercises), this should be ongoing for the whole year with any luck (as in if I don't injure myself). I'll keep you all posted on here and on my blog as progress goes on.

With Christmas behind us, are any of you planning on using Wii Fit to try to lose weight? A lot of my family and friends got Wii Fit for Christmas and are planning on using that as their exercise program.

I've put a few back on over the last few months, probably about ten or so.

In other words, come Monday I'm getting back into the swing of lifting 3 - 4 times a week and doing cardio, even if only walking my dog, 5 - 6 times a week.

Well, I just thought I'd share this-

I'm not setting a specific weight loss goal with this, just trying to get more nutrients. I've never been a vegetable guy, but I figured out the solution: liquefy them.

So I've been buying frozen vegetables, including spinach, broccoli, peppers, green beans, asparagus stir fry, and corn, and grinding them to a paste in a blender, and then adding enough low sodium V8 to give it a liquid consistency, and I have at least one 16 oz glass of that a day.

Does anyone see any flaw in this plan? How much of my daily recommended servings am I getting from this? (BTW, the mix is predominantly broccoli, spinach and green beans; those three are 2/3 of it all).

The pine green/red-tinged goop is actually pretty tasty thanks the V8; I only add enough to make it liquid. I can see myself continuing this for a long time without stopping.

That's probably about two servings worth of veggies since I'm normally told that a serving is 1/2 cup (8 oz).

As I posted here, I got depressed at the end of 2007 when my dog Fuzzy died and my weight began to increase, until I hit 198 lbs at the beginning of December. The idea of hitting 200 lbs was a sobering one, so I started buckling down with a weight-loss plan starting December 7 (no late-night snacks, only take one plate of food at a meal) designed with an eye toward simplicity and long-term sustainability.

It's been almost exactly one month now. This morning I weighed in at 181 lbs, so I'm doing pretty well. My goal is to get into the 160s.

When I saw my physician during my annual psychical on Christmas Eve, I found out I was 137lbs (down from 142 from November 2007). Thanks to the Holidays and my own indulgence, I gained a bit back in the belly. Not too bad, as I still eat healthily and exercise every morning. A few weeks and all should be back to normal.

I have always thought this site is an interesting place for diabetes information and diet, and a good place to start. The general idea - eating to the meter, and figuring out which foods your body can handle without dangerous increases in blood sugar levels-- makes sense to me; some of the specifics with regard to carbs/fat/ and protein, I would do a little more reading.

Thanks!

And after a weigh-in I'm down 4kg in the past week to 168.8kg. Woo. Diet + exercise = results. Whodathunkit.

Well, not weight related, but....Kinda?

Went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and had cholesterol numbers run (I went in because when I donated blood a few weeks ago, they said my cholesterol was stupid high) the Doc theorized that I must not have been fasting and that the number they gave could therefore NOT be an accurate baseline. So I go back the next day after fasting for 16 hours and they do the blood draw. I get the results back a few days later and my Good cholesterol was silly low (33) my bad cholesterol was....

IMPOSSIBLE TO MEASURE BECAUSE MY TRIGLYCERIDES WERE SO HIGH (PS - that's worse than having high bad cholesterol, I understand) so, normal triglyceride level is 0-149 mg/dL mine was 598 mg/dL. Needless to say, DEATH has been a powerful motivator for me to change my eating habits. I've been eating nothing but fruit, nuts, and vegetables, and a little fish. I've cut out all processed sugar (Fakey sugar is okay; like Equal or Splenda), High fructose corn syrup, high-density fat containing food, basically I've gotten rid of all the crap I used to eat. I've been doing it for about a week now, and surprisingly not missing the garbage I've eliminated from my diet. A surprising bonus is that in that week, I've lost 10 pounds. (The 10 pounds was pretty worrisome at first so I called Ye Olde Doktor and he advised that because of the shocking shift in my eating habits, my body was getting rid of all of the nonsense fat that I don't need which, especially when you eliminate sugar intake takes the form of mild Hyperketosis [Starvation]) .Yay for me. Step 2 will be to incorporate actual exercise in addition to the change in eating habits - Read: I'm getting Wii Fit. I know it sounds silly but as far as working out, I get burned out pretty quickly on it. The way I see it - the one thing I've been sotr of passionate about my whole life is video gaming - so add exercise to that and it seems like it SHOULD be a match made in heaven - we'll see.

Well I've been eating more, but my weightlifting class at school has given me plenty of time to exercise. So I went from "healthy" eating and no exercise to "shitty" eating and plenty of exercise. The result, I still weigh 188.

I've started working out more to lose weight, but mostly to improve my overall fitness. I'm currently 5'9" (unlikely to change), 175 lbs/22% body fat (high end of normal weight range/BMI), run about a 7:00 mile (1 mile above sea level... but way way slower than I used to be) and can squeeze out ~25 consecutive push-ups.

My long term life plans are in a bit of disarray right now; I'd say there's a 33% chance I'll sign up with the US Military in some capacity in the next few years, and the Army Physical Fitness Test seems like a pretty useful metric to mesure myself against anyway; I'm aiming for a 250 by June 1st.

I've been eating too much and that cold from hell waylaid my exercising for a week and a half' I can already feel the gut expanding. I really need to go easy on food and get back into my regimen for the next few weeks.

I suck and due to work being so goddamn busy and innumerable excuses (valid or otherwise) I've been off the wagon for about a fortnight, but am about to head back to BJJ tonight. Looking forward to it, but very apprehensive - how much have I forgotten in 2 weeks?

Anyone has any links on lightweight exercises one can do in the comfort of one own home?

I need more variety, so that I can motivate myself to keep up on the aerobic aspects of things.

got kids? I run around with Ricky or use him as a dumbell (I curl or benchpress him) It's awesome. As he grows, I get stronger. :D

Also - I know I pimp the site a lot, but Livestrong.com has loads of easy aerobic and strength trainingn exercises you can do with only very minimal equipment.

Squats, push-ups (and variants thereof), situps (and variants thereof), leg raises (and variants thereof), lots of positional work (like yoga/pilates stuff, but also a lot of martial arts have relatively stationary drills for flexibility/core strength). Those are all low impact and easy done in the home. Even in front of the TV.

If you want to get into some different stuff - kettlebells. I can't recommend them enough and they are starting to take off in Australia now. I play with a 20kg one, but you can get them as low as 4kgs. There's a lot of exercises you can do with them as well.
