[Discussion/Member] March Nominations thread

Post by Connor MacLeod »

I figured since this seemed to be forgotten and we're already well into the month, we might as well get a run on. Even though we can take as long as we want (and we seem to have some potential choicees)

So, I figure, let the nominations roll in.

*snicker* I was wondering when those people who'd bitched about the lack of nominations would make a thread. It's supposed to be the Second of each Month.

Well the floor is open starting the 2nd of each month so technically so long as the thread opens before the 24th its valid.

Some of us are on, uhhh... metric calendars. Yeah. That's it.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

funny, I thought you didn't want the Senate to grow anymore.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

You'll note, Sen. Knife, that while I knew what date it was last Sunday, I did not bother to start a thread, nor did I remind others who might have wished to do so. Sometimes, all one has to do is wait, and nominations will die of their own accord.

Errr... why would you start a new thread upon it? However with a post like;
she who wants to look innocent wrote:*snicker* I was wondering when those people who'd bitched about the lack of nominations would make a thread. It's supposed to be the Second of each Month.
I just kind of took it as 'implied' that you didn't want another Senate nom. thread. Considering this one wasn't on the 2nd and all. Just an observation.

My dear Knife, you are misunderstanding my source of amusement. It is not that there was a late thread started. It was that of all the people commenting in another thread, *none* of them took the time to make a real nomination thread, despite CmdWilkins explicit instructions on when the Rules state to do so.

Thus, my amusement in counting off the days it took for someone to start this thread. However, you are correct, I am still not sure if we should continue growing the Senate. There should be a maximum number of Senators, otherwise we get to the point where only the 'elite posters' are Senators and the peons are those we have countlessly deemed unworthy.

Milady T, your logic in this instance is overwhelming and I must confess I bow to your wisdom on this particular topic.
Thus, my amusement in counting off the days it took for someone to start this thread.
*bows* Your grace.

As much as I want to pick a fight....I can not on this issue.

Right - so how about the actual nominations?

I nominate Stas Bush. Just a few of his contributions:

The revisionist history thread
Russian food crisis thread
Soviet inductrialization history

There are more, but it's a lot of work digging it up. He's been very active and has a very good track record in debates on various subjects. He has also done a lot to educate the board in general about what life looks like in Russia, which should not be discounted. Many of us are too ignorant of that because such things do not feature in the prevalent news sources used here very much. There are also some fairly memorable debates between him and me from the time he had just registered regarding WW2 events, especially how they relate to our respective countries.

Of the possible candidates we have on the board, he's easily the best one. Can I get somebody to second the nomination?

I'll second Stas Bush.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

If memory serves, it was actually an argument with Stas that was used as part of my nomination.

That being said, yes to Stas.

Okay folks I get it, everyone is nominating Stas. This thread is for nominations and seconds. We don't need thirds, fourths, etc.

We need at least some kind of opposition to Stas -- if not from nays then in the form of another nominee. I nominate Ted C who, IMNSHO, should have been one of the founding Senators of this august body.

Hey I suggested nominating Fuzzy Wong, as an honorary Senator/Senator Emeritas since I feel comfortable with the size of the present group, and keep suggesting a late and lamented dog as an option instead of a regular user....

Very well Ted C and Stas are now nominated.

Also we could use either of the senators who are supporting TedC's candidacy providing a link to relevant material for the rest of the Senate to review.

I'll have to dig. I know Ted pretty well personally because he runs in some of the same circles that Brian Young and Sean run in (IE Mike Curtis, Wayne, etc.) and Ted C has been heavily involevd in Babtech (he's done alot of the claculators on the site for eaxmple.)

i know he was involved with Darkstar debates (at least on Spacebattles) and I think he's dealt with Rabid Fivers (like Adarx when he came onto SB.. or maybe it was Elizar.. I only remember that cuz I was playing proxy.)

I'll try to dig some stuff up. But isn't he also an admin of the SD.net wiki too? That maybe could stand for something.
