How to play Sabacc

Post by Mr Bean »

Considering this is pure Star-Wars and its about Star-Wars its not Quite Offtopic
For my 500th Post(Which this is) I'd thought I'd share an game I had learned / invinted when I ran into a fellow Star Wars fan one day on an airplane

I had Dark Forces Rising with me and a guy next to me had a deck of Playing Cards, I was reading about the Casino part of DFR and suddly inspiration struck(We had already talked about SW but I had gone back to reading and he to Solitar)

It suddly came to me how Zahn had intended Sabacc,
And it can be played with a Standered 52 Card Poker deck, EXCEPT you need the How to Play Poker Card they toss in there(I'll get to that later)
How to play all the varriations inculded in SW I don't know but heres how you play base regular

Each Suit stays as it normal is each normal card is worth is normal amount, Face Cards are worth more though, Jack is 11, Queen 12, King 13 and Ace 14
The How to Learn Poker Card is Worth Zero, Thats the Idiot Card

Red are postive, Black is Negative, Normal Rules apply, your trying to get to a perfect Postive 23 or as close as possible, Going Bust, Getting Exactly negative 23 and your automaticly out
Simple enough, The Idiot Arry is also Present, A 2 or 3 of any suit and the Idiot Card make the Idiot Arry and automaticly win. The idiot is normaly worth zero otherwise,
Players are delt two cards and have the option of Drawing the Third

Where Sabbaccs unqiues comes in is hard to do,
Each Card is supposed to realy be a Holo chip that at random Intervuls changes its vaule.
To simluate this once per hand(2-8 players) you can say change and each person layers there cards facedown on the table after mixing em around(Case anyone saw em) and each person picks a card oposite the person they are sitting, For odd number games the odd man has his card picked by the one who called change

Each player then stuffs the selected card back into the deck whererver they want the deck is shuffed and replacement cards delt

Simple enough and realy gratting on the nervers because drawing a new card is out of your hands, You may call change and get somthing vauable or your oppent my pick your vauable almost 23 card and give you a bust, But then you might do the same to him

I was trying to figure it out myself. Is the Sabacc info in the Lando Trilogy useful, too? It gives names.

Yes they give cool sounding names in the Lando Trillagy and also a way Sabacc can be used as make-shift Tarot cards but saddly I don't know any of the deeper meanings otherwise I could beging giving on-line future tellings(All of which oddly advise you to give your money quickly to somone named *Bean you know that may be in this very room :D)

Well just a general thought you could setup a random generator to provide a numebr of minutes before the nxt "change" so that it no longer becomes a challenge but now is randomized (no calling challenge jut happens) and you could alter things slightly. Now instead of shifting cards around you have, like in sabacc, the option of placing any number of the cards in your hand on "hold", for the rest when a change comes up you must return them to the dealer and you are dealt a number of new cards equal to the number you returned.

Just a thought

Either Wong took off that option, or it did not come with this packadge. Most mods can ban people to, but only admins can do that here.

Yes Because *CERTIAN Moderators might take offense that somone else has more posts then them

I can understand the no-banning thing Wong's been pretty clear on that point about Banning would be a rare and reserved thing

Now, get this marketed and put in casinos all around the world. It's probably the only thing form SW that's actually possible with current technology!

Problem.....There are 70 something cards in the deck. It is in AC crispin's Han Solo Trilogy. It would be possible to achive this with two decks together, and maybe a joker as the idiot. I think there are enough references to mark a value on every card. This way, it is true SW authentic, not a modified for earth tech version. The random program would be nice too. I have seen a downloadable version for windows somewhere, but i don't know where.

There are 70 something cards in the deck
I know that the problem is I have not seen them in any of the books
52 Cards could similate nearly all the games they had except the seem to go up to -17 With the *Judge of *insert suit name here

Also some cards which are Suitless such as Moderation

But this is how you can play da earth version untill we have the holo-tech in the cheap and easy to use form you need
