Why go to war, if you can assassinate Saddam?

A coup is when a leader is overthrown by his own people. Its been tried several times. All failed. The US has the same objective as an internal coup, get rid of Saddam. But a large ground invasion is the only way it can be done.

We've tried before, through normal assassination attempts and egging on coups. We had thought that his own men would assassinate him after the first Gulf War, because he had humiliated them so, but it didn't happen...Also, he hasn't been seen in public for two years.

Saddam has nearly been assassinated on many occassions, only problem is he has a character shield on par with Hitler.

Yes but the Saddam reason is the PR reason. You can't go around assassinating your PR people
