@ Shinn :
I'm really sorry if it bother you. I didn't intend it to come of(f?) as "spherical masses of irons" (I don't really like that myself), it's just that I had reached a point were I had to ask for external input(s) to come out of a loop...

If you want to present your ships fighting a certain way, with weapons of a certain power and operating under certain constraints, do so. If I want to present my ships fighting a certain way, I will do so. If our ways are mutually exclusive, it does not matter, with the possible exception of interstellar speeds.
If our ships fight each other, we get together and work out what to do. Maybe one of us ignores his 'nominal' shipboard weapon power outputs because the alternative would be stupid pointless chest-beating about spherical masses of iron. Maybe one of us handwaves a sudden technobabble increase in the shielding properties of technobabble. Whatever is done, is done for the good of the "points are points are points" rule.
That actually reminds me of my more shameful acts during SDNW4, namely my constant attempts to one-up Zor on the infantry weapons page on the Wiki. I freely admit that the energy I expended on that would have been much better spent elsewhere, but at least some of it can be put to good use now, given that one of my prologue posts is about a brush war in one of the Holy Empire's colonies. Can I mix the
Gears of War games and
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 together and make the end result look good? Only one way to find out.

It's fine Rabid, and I was quite happy to give you a friendly nudge to point out the loop you'd got into, as Shinn said if you don'tt get poked out of it you end up wasting all your energy on it at the expense of actually
writing the fiction, whcihs eemed to claima few casulties in SDNW4.
Speaking of prologues posts msyelf, I'm working on some ideas, but most of them rely on knowing who my neighbours are, so will wait for a while.
Hmmm, maybe I should poke a Micronation down to give me something to do 'till then.

I don't need a Micronation to do my prologue thankfully. Speaking of which, the TC Old Spice Guy (That's the name I decided on) post should be up now. It got more serious and less comedy than I was planning, but hey, at least I tried. And also, a lot of it comes from the actual Terry Crews Old Spice commercials, so I don't want to hear 'what was Skywalker smoking when he thought this up' posts.

One wonders how much is actual reality warping and how much is merely the power of suggestion. Still, DOUBLE SUN POWER!

I'm going with power of suggestion.
I'd be a little leery of introducing entities capable of
screwing with the sun like that.
Scratch that, I'd be very leery of it.
For all we know, these are just reasonably powerful espers rampaging around on a planet poorly equipped to deal with them...

Don't worry, he isn't actually playing with the sun. That would be ridiculous on the level of DE Palpy. The actual vaporization of the soldiers was just either powerful pryo abilities or some tech I haven't decided on. We'll see which it is. And don't worry...TC Old Spice Guy won't be running around destroying fleets with DOUBLE SUN POWER!! anytime soon.
EDIT: And speaking of Palpy...you don't know how tempting it was to have him belt out UNLIMITED POWAH!!

At least Siditine sounds less like the Dark Lord of the Potty than your previous name for him...

Open question to all:
For purposes of PLOT and expanding some ideas that I had... How many out there would like to have been visited by my "Puppet Masters" in their ancient past? For the parts I will be using them in story, I'd liek them to have plenty of past experience with the other racers. After all they were in the galaxy almost 1000 years before game start, and spent almost 50 years going from one end to the other looking for a good place to run their experiments.

It's possible my Nomads may have encountered your Nomads at one time or the other...
Counter question : As the Nation has a tendency to travel pretty much everywhere, for trade and discovery, would there be a particular reason why a splinter of their fleets wouldn't have discovered your races in the past, say, 500 years ?
For example, would it be because navigation in the sector is hazardous ? Something else ?

The race in question can be found in the "Spoiler' part of my current nation description post. They arent really ''My" nation, but are a third party.
500 years ago they had already decided that my Sectory was where they were running their experiments, so it would have been before that when they were finding a spot.

Depends a lot on what you mean by 'encounters'. The Furlings were wiped out by someone long before the actual Arcadian's showed up. By wiped out I mean their civilization, not the Furlings themselves. I haven't figured out exactly who did it though...so if your 'Ancient Race' was violent back then it works.
EDIT: On second thought...disregard this post...I somehow missed the thousand years thing. The Arcadians would already have started settling in former Furling territory by that point.

A thousand years before game start is... 2300 AD.
Anyway, I've got all the ancient aliens I really need in my background, so don't worry about me.

And unfortunatly the Capellans wern't around when your ancient aliens were flying around Crossroads, and the people who made them never left thier system so I don't think would have interested them.

Incidentally, does anyone actually want to be next to Space Sweden Arcadia? For when we get the map finalized anyway.

Well bugger me, how did I get the time off like that
I forgot just how far Forward we were, it would be 2000 years back not one >_<
On another note...
Since there won't be a map till most of us decied who we are next... I would like to actually be close to either Skywalker, Darkevilme, or 11thCentury. As those seem the best groups for making intial contact with.

Sorry, I'll try to put something partial together this weekend, all right?
Hm. Darkevilme, your guys came in from off-map in historically recent time. Which way? Would you rather be "The Guys From The Perseus Arm" and somewhere on the rimward edge of the map, or "The Guys From The Sagittarius Arm" and on the coreward edge? Purely aesthetic judgment on your part, mind you.

Well then...me or ECR certainly...but the Chamarrans aren't exactly friendly. That being said, I have no problem with you popping up next to Arcadia.
I also have no problem with waiting for the map. Considering I don't even know who to be next to yet...

Aren't exactly friendly to human dominate powers. Alien powers they can get along with. I do think it'd be fun to be somewhat near the UISC though.
So my proximity list goes:
close proximity:
Hellenic confederacy (they apparently unified to oppose subjugation by felines, quaint)
moderate proximity:
Capellans (for trade)
UISC (For potential story funs)

Honestly I could toss a coin on it it matters little. All it changes is what we call the extinct species the Chamarran's looted the warp gate from. Either Perseids or Sagitans. I'll go with Perseus only cause that's how I've already written it really, unless there's more entertaining stuff coreward of course.

A question: How do the Chamarrans feel about other human-made species?

Imperial528 wrote:A question: How do the Chamarrans feel about other human-made species?
Depends on their level of independence. They don't quite have the moral myopia to hold other human made species responsible for the sins of humanity unless said species is subservient to mankind or part of a mixed polity. Honestly known space was not how the kitties expected it. They expected to cruise in, subjugate humanity, perhaps liberate any manufactured species that had come after their own creation and then settle in for a thousand years of rulership. Discovering aliens and human derived species and manufactured species everywhere was a shock to them.
Independent created species are treated in general without the bias of the anti human dogma. Though if the created species are sufficiently human looking there might be friction caused by earlier cases of mistaken identity when the Chamarrans first arrived on their grand subjugation crusade (Like the time some incautious kitty tried to land a conquest force on a League creche colony thinking it was a first phase human colony world, that went so badly the kitties were breaking orbit before the fast response force even arrived).

Well, they would like the pre-Ancient Enemy Furlings then. They were a major power until someone (the Grays? Crossroads Ancient Race? Who knows) knocked them down to a couple planets and 20th century or lower tech level. There would be the awkward allergy problem, but as long as the blue people wear hazmat suits it should work.

Interesting. Well, we have a rather unique situation on our hands then, as while there are no humans in Cerna (Although every so often a few almost-humans are born due to slight genetic hiccups), their parent nation is actually ruled by a human, or was when they last knew.
