Tell me about it......

I recall one recent thread though, something in the War Room like "What would happen if a modern USN carrier group appeared in the fleet roster of the WWII Kriegsmarine, complete with the knowledge of how to use it.

The usual posts of ""X" would become a blasted wasteland were posted, I brought up what I thought were two important points. The staffing levels of a USN carrier group are pretty high, especially the Carrier (the answer to that was strip the Army personnel), and fuel. First off,the non nuclear vessels would need fuel, something Germany later got rather short of, and where would the proper grade of Jet fuel come from once onboard reserves are exhausted? This was totally ignored...

Yeah, the reasons Alyeska got banned were total BS, frankly Thanatos stepped WAY out of line there. The shit other people have been allowed to get away with for YEARS without censure and Alyeska just calling someone a lunitic was enough to get a warning? Then a ban? Sure Alyeska probably shouldn't have publicly dared to be banned like that, but the fact that he was warned, then banned for something like THAT? Jesus CHRIST, compared to the bullshit that goes on without note in Non-Sci Fi, thats just fucking crazy.

I remember back when Alyeska and I were mods, we cleaned up the Vs forum -with the help of people like Connor and others who wish to remain nameless- and banned dozens of trolls without mercy, though only some needed permbans, getting the place running well enough that we barely had to do anything, ever, so much so that I more or less retired. Then Cool Guy and the admins let us go saying they were downsizing and letting the Supermods directly do the work now.

And of course shortly after we were let go they brought in new mods anyway to replace us which rather pointedly showed this was BS but hey...

I still remember myself, Alyeska, Steve and a couple of others went nuts trying to get some of the real assholes in Non-Sci Fi banned, like Es. But no, we kept getting overruled saying that they were harmless and not really trolling...

Yeah I'm thinking of leaving Spacebattles for good, all I really ever do is post fanfics there now and I'm increasingly inclined to say 'screw it' and not even bother with that.

The main reason I go on SB.com these days is to read fanfiction. Granted the author (Skeet) also posts on FF.net, but he posts firsts on SB.com. If SB.com goes offline, I would still be able to find the relevant fic, so its no big lost. And if anyone is worried about those wonderful fan fics disappearing forever if SB.com goes down, well just save it onto your hard drive. I find there are more Star Trek orientated fics which suit my taste, no offense to the writers here, but its a subjective thing.

There are a lot of conservative fucktuds over there, but the things which I seem to run afoul of were strangely enough, the comic book fanwhores. You know they type. Those who use the no numbers approach, or make vague statements like character x can alter reality for the instant win. Seriously. :wtf: Ok, they can transmute matter, I get it. Over what volume and range of this attack? I don't think any one responded when I pointed out that your comic book wank character might still be outranged by sci fi big boys whose weapon ranges are in light years, and it matters not even if your reality altering attack can kill said foe.

Also of note there were several internet tough guys who thought it was so cool to advocate genocide or death to masses of people. Particular examples include

Someone saying let the AIDS virus wipe out Africa, with no criticism despite several pages. This was in response to an article about some Muslims in Africa burning down a Christian school after one of the Christians (who was mentally retarded) allegedly desecrated the Koran.

Aurpo saying the US should use "any excuse" to nuke China just in case it becomes bigger economically than the US. He also tried to justify it by saying we can get along without China for world trade. When some people including His Divine Shadow called him on this shit, "any excuse" magically changed to "if they attack us first with nukes". Its said that conservatives are people who grew up being afraid while the liberals were those kids who were confident. Well you can see the fear in those conservatives right there and in other threads.

I could almost pity them that they are consumed with such fear. Then I remember what damage conservatives have done and any such emotion disappears, and I laugh instead. Like I said earlier, if SB.com goes down its no big loss.

I left SB.com years ago and never looked back. Apparently that was a good thing given what I'm reading here...

One reason I stayed on SB.com for a long period of time, is due to the fact that they allowed me to act stupid on that forum. As I grew up, and learned more about life, I learned that acting stupid is...stupid.

Then again, even in the past, I am pissed with those people who loved to bash Hogwarts, and enjoy the idea of slaughtering school students and kids. Other than that, there is the constant obession with them having a harem. It is funny to see people calling themselves nerds, and saying nerds are more likeable in their discussion, yet at the same time, their actions and words just pissed people off. The idea of male dominance on that board just pissed me off.

I used to be on Spacebattles. Then I got banned for something I didn't do. They ignored my emails, so eventually I just gave up. Since I'm pretty damn sure I didn't do what they claimed I was banned for, that leaves either error, or I stepped on a moderator's toes and they banned me under false pretenses. Don't know which is more likely.

SB has a decent motivation pictures thread. It has a few gems here and there worth saving to hard drive. I just wish I could purge through the endless anime pics in that thread to get to them. Does not anime have it's own sub forum to post blue haired mangirl pics ? Not everyone finds expressionless line figures the pinnacle of humour or Japanese school girls in skimpy clothing destroying the world with mindpowers TEH AWESOME.
