We should make sure they really did murder all Zablanians before nuking them.

I never said we were using rail guns. Rail guns and gauss guns are completely different weapon systems.

Gauss Guns use a magnetic field to through a projectile down the barrel. The magnetic field moves down the coils of the barrels with the projectile by applying an electrical current to different parts of the coil at different times. The coils never move and the projectile never touches the barrel due to the magnetic force pushing on it from all sides. So there is very little barrel wear.

A rail gun has contacts that slide along with the projectile to maintain the magnetic field around the projectile. It works in the same way as the steam catapult on an aircraft carrier.
