I'm pretty sure you could kill giant squids; and biology does limit their possible size.

It's possible that megafauna has survived in this world without an extinction even.

So what to do with possible megafauna? Kill it? Sure, for safety.

But we need to capture some of it for zoos; think your Navy could do an operation "Central Zoo Squid" and be the first nation to spout such a great exponate?

I think hostile native life forms from the sea can be fun. I especially like the idea that they were agitated by a natural disaster-- some undersea stability issues in a tightly-packed mass archipelago are to be expected.

Just so long as we don't get too Doctor Moreau with it, and turn it into some sort of weird monster movie type thing...

Also, the only nation that will see a huge increase in GDP right now will be Gottland, which now has money from one single simple export (fish biscuits) and Foreign Direct Investment pouring in from Canissia and Shroomania. So they'll have the typical problems that come with it-- a rapid stratification of class as whole new "haves" start living next to their "have-not" neighbors, and the inflation of the money.

Of course, we can kill those things because we're not completely incompetent like most monster-movie militaries.

And,of course, these monsters are not bulletproof by fiat. Still, I think that agressive, large creatures could pose a threat to smaller shipping.

Also, in light of the fact that our merchant shipping is no longer safe, both from pirates and now sea monsters, I'm proposing opening an international cooperation for the FF-X convoy escort/anti-piracy project. I figure it'd be something between a Halifax frigate and the US Coast Guard's Legend Maritime Security Cutters. Big enough to be a credible escort and fully blue water capable, but still relatively small enough that a Duchy can reasonably afford a few.
