People, remember. FTL is slow in this one.
Alyrium, your ship isn't likely to get help unless it's near a planet. And fighter would need a mothership and a jump gate to get out of FTL.

Stormbringer, is this FTL B5 style, minus jumppoints? I.E, every system has chokepoints?

The agreed system was a faster "hyperhighway" linking the systems and a much slower idependent system of travel.

Jump points are rather large areas and located away from main worlds, each Empire would have two or three near it expect for a couple hubs. Normal FTL is used to move around within Empires.
Anyway, interdictors basically only work if you know your targets course ahead of time so piracy in deep space would be a minimal problem.

There really cannot any form of fee to just the jump points, there just huge open areas of space. The system doesn't use B5 gates or anything and there located outside of your space. Charging a fee to be in a convoy is another story.

Editing my post, I wouldn't charge to have the vessel in a convoy.

About shields: Should we make it so that a some amount of energy from each attack leaks through? That would make armor more of an issue and prevent "you beat me to within an inch of my life but I'll be fine in five minutes" annoyance.

I think at least some bleed though that would be good, especially with very high-energy impacts.

Thirdfain, your Empire should be a perhaps 200 light year sphere counting its outposts. It really does not make any sense to spread away from your core systems and jump points across thousands of light years of empty space lacking jump points. All you'd gain is increased fuel consumption and long transit times.

200 LY diameter sphere for hundreds of life-supporting worlds?
I sort of assumed that the dots represented the center of our empires, and they spread a bit out from there.

200 might be on the small side but considering that many people have five or six major planets in single systems, it works, though it's not like your minor colonys or outposts need to be on life supporting worlds. Anyway its 185 days for a fast naval vessel to get from the Hive to Three Suns via normal FTL. A civilian ship could take several years, expanding twenty light years in every direction makes far more sense then some huge push towards another Empire.

I assumed that the Fast FTL method worked even to systems without special facilities, it just dumped them at a predetermined point in the system- Stormbringer described it as an area a few hundred kilometers wide which ships could activate their "Fast FTL" drives, and they would come out of it in a similar area at the target system.
Since an area a few thousand LY across would have many systems, I sort of imagined that vessels would leapfrog from system to system on the Fast FTL.

Not all systems have a jump point; in fact none do as there located in open space. I said typically each Empire would have two or three, though I know think four is a better figure, close at hand and you'd need to make two jumps to get from some Empires to others.
The Federation of the Shadow for example, might have a jump point to the Sota" Rhi and Rokugan and then another that leds to some form of larger hub among the core Empires from which seven or eight places can be reached. However Sota" Rhi and Rokugan might not have a direct route from each other. Unfortunately we don’t yet have a map of them, Spyder isn't around much for us to yell at him. If this goes on much longer I'll just draw somthing myself. Hell I might go do that right now
The whole point of this was to add a new element of play, if you can jump from system to system there's no point to it all and we might as well have 25,000-50,000c FTL.

I don't know- it would add in the element of choke points, and the option of the sneak attack (come in at the system on Slow FTL, around the fortifications at the Jump Point.)
Additionally, you would still have to take multiple jumps from system to system- and perhaps adding in something like a two-day recharge time for Fast FTL drives would make FTL travel slow enough to avoid STGOD1's 5 Minit Reinforcements, and still give us the ability to have vast, untamed frontier regions into whichm to expand (and with which to have border disputes over.)

That was almost exactly what was said when I first proposed the idea.

I don’t think that’s necessary, ship can do at most 27 light years per day and jump points are not going to be located exactly next to each other. It wont matter how fast you can jump because you simply can't reach another point or system without a few days travel.

Alright, it seems my interperetation of how this STGOD world is set up was flawed.
May I edit my posts?
