Mother is English as far back as I know - Camberwell area of London.

Father is Welsh, although his grandparents on his father's side are from Wiltshire, England.

I feel very uninteresting compared to most of you :)

My mother is a Dutch immigrant. My father's family has been in the states for quite a while now but is best described as of northern European decent, little bit of English, Scottish, Danish, Swedish among others.

Hey, at least it is more interesting than myself's or Edi's. Finnish in general tend to ethnically quite homogeneous, because the location and climate has not not been permissive to many migrations during the last millennium or so. The last one was the ruthless expansion of the Finnish people from the southern parts of the country in favor of the Saami and according to genetic studies there was not a lot of intermixing between the two peoples.

On my dad's side, his parents were both from Latvia: His father was mostly ethnically Latvian with a bit of Russian ancestry, while his mother is Baltic German. My mom was born in Barbados (and has ancestry there going back to the 17th century) though is primarily of English and Scottish descent.

Typical mongrel British back into the 1800's. Farmers or Military.

My great uncle on my mothers side traced his line back quite far back as it seems it involves the aristocracy. I've not seen that particular tree first hand though so only able to go by what I've been told. Really need to get hold of a copy of that tree.

Grandfather was one of the Wehr Trefzgers, his wife a Riley from Cincinnati (as in, Little Orphant Annie's Riley, specifically - my son is named Riley in the Grandmother's family's honour).

My mother's family are Lithuanian Poles who relocated from the newly acquired USSR territory the Soviet Republic Of Lithuania after the war to avoid being forcibly naturalized as Soviet citizens. My father came here from eastern Poland, where his family still lives.

I currently reside in a city forcibly taken from Germany, whose significant German population was forcibly relocated to Eastern Germany.

In a way, my family is the demographic story of postwar Poland in minitature :)

My paternal grandfather was born in ireland, my maternal great parents were polish and lithuanian and irish, and my paternal great grandparents on my dad's mother's side were ukranian (ironically the union came from a mining accident; Great grandpa harry was a coal miner who broke his jaw, and he married the nurse who treated him, leading to my grandma sophie.) In short I'm Slavic/Irish American.

I think the Americans are counting arbitrary numbers of generations to determine "ancestry" rather than just their actual parents.

My parents are both English, my mother was born in Devon, my dad Lancashire. My paternal line, as far as I know, has been Lancashire-based for centuries. My mother's line goes off to Spain and, we think, the Moors. Beyond that, who knows, we're all Africans.

It 's a fairly common American cultural custom, though my father actually was first generation.

I self-define as European.

By blood I'm 1/4 Hungarian and 3/4 English. I was also born in France and lived there for a few years so that influences my ethnicity too.

Is this the time to do a boldfaced plug for the National Geographic genographic project?

Don't trust on your relatives to give you the details, find it out for yourself.

Quite a bit of British on my dad's side of the family, I don't know how much English though.

English on my dad's side, local Bristolian, his family being an odd mixture of working and lower middle class going back a while. My mum's from Pontypridd, Wales, with her mother "native" Welsh and her father an English immigrant (with likely a bit of Irish thrown in).

Wasn't relations between the Holy Roman Empire and Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth way back in the 16th and 17th centuries relatively cordial? :)

They were also pretty good around the 10th century. Exceptions that prove the rule ;)

25% Greek (from my father's father's side)
25% German (toward Poland, I believe; from my father's mother's side)
25% Franco-Canadian (from my mother's mother's side)
25% English/Ulster Scots (from my mother's father's side)

Like 1/4 Scottish and 3/4 German. My maternal grandfather's parents immigrated from Scotland in the 19teens, my maternal grandmother's maiden name was Obear (Anglicized from Ober, which sounds German to me), and both my dad's parents were from German-colonized southern Indiana --- my paternal grandmother's maiden name was Nuhring.

Mang, you're like those people in the South and the rural areas of the US who reply "AMERICAN" to ethnicity questions on the census.
