I can't tell you how much I want to rip these images off to use as the warships of my pet galactic superpower!

Im flattered, really. I'm trying to see if my University has any CAD/3D design classes to be offered.

Be warned; texturing is a pain in the ass and far less rewarding than modelling. There's a reason there are 1,000,000 tri models of pretty much anything out there with no textures. Some modelling approaches also tend towards making texturing very difficult, from what I understand.

If you have the right software (I'm not sure on the capabilities of what you're using) try to greeble the shit out of the ships to provide scaling cues. Don't go the inane route of putting super-detailed unarmoured areas on larger ships, but make it clear that what is a small feature on large ships is very prominent on smaller examples.

Eh, the geometry is relatively simple (as in there are no curved or double curved surfaces). It shouldn´t be particularly difficult to texture them.

Damn. That shouldn't even be possible in SketchUp, of all programs.

Isn't it a pain in the neck to keep everything symmetrical and matched up? How the hell are you getting those round surfaces, too? :?

round surfaces suck but are possible with schetch up.

You do it then. Go on.

Ok, I´ll PM you a cost estimate. :)

Hey, hey, no need to fight. I mean, far be it for me to interfere in your friendly wager, but you should at least put some money on it....

I love the first two pages of designs, it looks like an original universe that would really work. Fantastic job, really!

Yeah, the stuff looks great.
I suggest to introduce some asymmetry in the next model.

So heres your asymmetrical attempt:

No, no, if you want to do asymmetry you have to do it consequently. This looks like a symmetrical ship with some asymmetry strapped on to it. Go the full way and produce something completely asymmetrical.
Modern architecture is a good inspiration for asymmetrical designs.
And with that i mean principles not that spaceships should look like houses.

YES!!! Side AND front hangers! Plus only one rear firing gun that can't cover the entire aft arc! Bean and Stark are going to have stokes!

Looks real cool. Maybe try out a smaller Millennium Falcon sized ship? Or modify one of your slick fighter designs?

Why is there no heart attack emoticon? Clearly there is a market here that is untapped.
Seriously, front hangers. It worked for Wing Commander, it can work for you.

Those hangers almost look like a beam cannon arm. How great would that be? The A-10 of ship design. Designing the Starship around the gun. There's a gun, which happens to have a starship attached.

Think of the possibilities

Actually, I beat him to that. I think I posted it somewhere on here once...

Unfortunately, asymmetry is not really my thing.....

Have you ever played Sinz of a Solar Empire? Cause you have a strong TEC feeling going on with your designs.

Thats actually where I got the inspiration for the aesthetic. Wanted to do something different from my other stuff.

The asymmetrical one is almost, but not entirely unlike an Orion class Destroyer out of Freespace.
At least that was what it reminded me of.

Im not sure why, but that new ship of yours screams "Command Ship" it looks as armed as a Battleship but bigger and bulkier, defiantly something for organizing a fleet.

And, with that comment, I have added further large guns to the "battleship" to help differentiate it from the "command" ship. I think I am pretty much finished with the battleship's design:
