This is neat, but would it be allowed to include links to Wookiepedia in articles?

If we're going to have articles about usergroups, then we should make it a rule or whatever that only people from that usergroup can edit the article.

Seriously, Shep putting seven of those motivational poster things up makes it look like utter shit on The Mess article.

Indeed, I told him something simular this morning about that. I'm uncomfortable with that due to Mess rules.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Since it hasn't been looked at thoroughly I'm going to go ahead and re-hash what Stark said way earlier:

You should set it up so that only registered users can edit, and the registration process should be similar/identical to this one. That way, people who break the Terms Of Service about graffiti-ing articles or who consistently delete good material or in general cause trouble can be banned. The upside, of course, is that you still follow the wiki-theory of letting anyone edit anything and giving everyone a free first chance.

Can we just fucking ban DEATH from the wiki? Please? I'm tired of having to clean up after him.

What, is this "Only the Mess knows how to make an article on itself" time?

Well, I do have worked havily in a different wikia (2/3 of the content in that one is from me). But I don't think I'm made as an admin.

Btw., we slowly seem to get it all in order it seems.

Actually i've done several pages for Wikipedia in the past (most are now gone, because of the last pogrom of material last year) but i have some experience in editing wikis so i could be of some help. I dont know how to do the most complex stuff like upload pictures, though.

As per prior suggestions, I just turned on the "must have validated E-mail to edit" flag.

Someone just broke a *whole* lot of links by changing the main page. I re-linked my stub on the Death Star and the Transporters.

I've been editing Wikipedia (and Memory Alpha, to a lesser extent) on and off for the last four years. Admittedly it's a bit more "off" these days due to the politics which are consuming it from within, but I still know most of the formatting code, how to deal with images and so forth. I'll help out wherever I can with this, and if anyone would like me as an admin, all the better!

It makes me feel wierd to say this, but you're absolutely right. Not only is he spamming shit for no reason, he's *cripplingly self-obsessed*. Have you seen some of the shit he put in his own article? I mean, 'lame' doesn't fucking cover it.

I'd like to volunteer for an admin position: I'm not a kid, I'm not particularly passionate about the 'versus' side of the debate, and I'm interested in quality.

I think it's funny the wiki sat there empty for 6+ hours, but then JSF and I decided to play around before I went to work. 3 hours later it was a stunning, terrible place. :)

Don't get me wrong, but after Mike retooled the main page, the "Index" page remains what it was, only a test. The Main Page was never changed, so please stop making double categories.

So that was him making the "sadly doesn't compensate" blurb? I knew there was only one person who'd randomly capitalize words like that.

I've done some minor editing on Wikipedia and MA (and created an article or two), so I'd be willing to help wherever I can. I'm not that familiar with advanced editing, but I can find my way around.

It worked for me. I had to validate my own E-mail when I set it up. Perhaps you've got a spam filter which is killing the automatically generated E-mail with the validation link in it?

It worked for me, too.

Tribun and Dave, if you've got experience on how the more advanced wiki stuff is supposed to work, can you bash out some quick info into the help page? I've worked out a lot of the article stuff, but not the way things are supposed to be organised, etc.

JMSpock article wrote:Mike DiCenso, another fanatical starfleetjedi.net forum user, made the following comment: "If you allow millions of Imperial starships because of the Death Stars, then you probably have to do a similar thing for the Federation since we have seen that they have the industrial capacity to build a fair number of multi-km space stations (Starbase 74, the Utopia Planita space stations, ect) that are each worth thousands of Galaxy or Sovereign class starships in volume and mass."Link

JMSpock responds: "These, too, have shields and weaponry. They have highly sophisticated massive medical facilities, and on-board construction, repair, and refit facilities. These, too, can lumber about systems - watch the opening episode of DS9."

Notice how JMSpock dishonestly mixes large Federation starbases, namely Starbase 74 and Utopia Planitia, with vastly smaller Deep Space 9 with his claim that aforementioned starbases' movement capability is demonstrated in the opening episode of Deep Space 9. As a matter of fact larger starbases never demonstrated any capability to move at either sublight or supralight speeds nor have they ever demonstrated any weapon or shield capabilities.
Should it also be pointed out that DS9 wasn't even built by the Federation, making it even more of a red herring concerning what Fed starbases are like.

Cool, thanks. Specifically I'm curious to know how to set up redirects and use categories properly, things of that nature.
