Anyway, why the fuck did he remain standing as if nothing happened while cops not five meters aware were supposedly fully disabled?
I'll second this part. It's a nitpick out of what I consider overall an excellent film.

However, the Joker should have been shot in the head. That was a dream shot. I laughed during that scene because the position of the Jokers head relative to the hostages was almost identical to that of the training targets we used, and he was closer.

Actually, even with third degree burns, pain will still remain in a fair few cases. Additionally, the surrounding tissue will suffer thermal damage, even if not direct fire damage, and as such burn, thus resulting in pain from THOSE nerves.

Saw it again tonight. 3rd screening. IMAX. It's pretty cool at first, but then just meh. Nothing outrageously special. Also, just in case you are going to see it for the experience, it is only a certain number of scenes done in IMAX, not the whole movie.

Lets see...
Assuming Maroni dies, I've got the count up to 4 for Dent's kills. The Cop in the bar, the driver, Maroni, and what I finally saw tonight, a third mob guy that gets grabbed on the very FAR left of the screen around the neck/jaw. If we assume he is killed and Gordon assumes that Ramirez is dead, that makes 5 dead, two of them cops.

The Joker's shot gun fire DID NOT penetrate the armored van and they are INDEED paint chips flying at the screen. The cop inside even comments on the fact after Dent inquires about if they can penetrate.

Maggie Gyllenhal is BORING, and now I am sure that I liked Katie Holmes more.

Bale's Batman voice gets more annoying each screening.

30 million people in one fucking city is fucking nuts. No wonder it is such a fucked up place.

They never specifically state that Dent is dead. "...dies with his reputation." are the words they used IIRC. I think Two-Face will be back in the third movie, and it will be he, that consolidates what remains of the mobs and crime in Gotham, and who better to do it, as he knows them all and how they work very well. It also fills out his transformation to Two-Face, as as Harvey he was the top man in the war AGAINST crime, and now he will be the top man AGAINST law and order.

Gary Oldman is the fucking man.

I strongly suspect that's an error; the real Chicago has a population one-tenth of that, and IIRC that specific number onlu counts the people living on the main island, which would give the city a population density of way too fucking much.
They never specifically state that Dent is dead.
A four-storey fall, no ambulances, and he gets a funeral? I'm pretty sure Dent is dead and buried, unless the ceremony at the end was just a cover-up.

Well obviously it's not supposed to actually be Chicago, and I believe they used a digitally enhanced and enlarged Chicago in Begins. Also, in universe, arguably the smartest man in the city is where the number comes from. I would hope someone that can turn unwilling cell phones into a massive sonar array knows how many people live in his city. :D

Like I said before, they went so far as to let Gordon's wife and children believe he was dead to protect them. I see no reason why they wouldn't let Gotham believe Dent was dead to protect the city. It also doesn't seem like that much of stretch to believe that a Police force such as Gotham's, that was completely infested with corruption, would have a hard time participating in a cover up.

As for the fall, well if The Joker can survive that Semi flip and Harvey can survive that limo wreck, the little 4 story fall, although I thought it was only two, seems like small potatos.

Harvey being alive or dead is up to Nolan. If he does a third film, he can decide whether to make Two Face the main villain or not then. Otherwise, it's deliberately left open.

We saw Batman: Dark Knight on Friday.

Holy Shit! Batman must have gotten Superman's balls or something.

Too bad about Racheal. Although, knowing the Joker, her building might not have exploded after all.

Think about it; he's the master of bait and switch, say one thing, do another, misdirection, etc, in the movie.

Put Dent in a real explosion position, tell Batman that's where the girl is.

Batman saves him, and thinks the girl is dead. He's trying to push Batman over the edge.

And if it doesn't, he still has Rachael to torment and turn against Batman, say under the name, Harley Quinn.

Two Face would work. We've just had the Dark Knight. Logically, the next one would be "The Dark Knight Returns" I can see the first chapter of DKR (ie) the one with Two Face) being quite easy to adapt to Nolanverse.

You're still a fucking idiot. But this is to be expected.

http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html
The distinction between “fair use” and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission. Acknowledging the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for obtaining permission.

The 1961 Report of the Register of Copyrights on the General Revision of the U.S. Copyright Law cites examples of activities that courts have regarded as fair use: “quotation of excerpts in a review or criticism for purposes of illustration or comment; quotation of short passages in a scholarly or technical work, for illustration or clarification of the author's observations; use in a parody of some of the content of the work parodied; summary of an address or article, with brief quotations, in a news report; reproduction by a library of a portion of a work to replace part of a damaged copy; reproduction by a teacher or student of a small part of a work to illustrate a lesson; reproduction of a work in legislative or judicial proceedings or reports; incidental and fortuitous reproduction, in a newsreel or broadcast, of a work located in the scene of an event being reported.”

Copyright protects the particular way an author has expressed himself; it does not extend to any ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in the work.

The safest course is always to get permission from the copyright owner before using copyrighted material. The Copyright Office cannot give this permission.

When it is impracticable to obtain permission, use of copyrighted material should be avoided unless the doctrine of “fair use” would clearly apply to the situation. The Copyright Office can neither determine if a certain use may be considered “fair” nor advise on possible copyright violations. If there is any doubt, it is advisable to consult an attorney.
Since it's impossible for you to have obtained permission and "fair use" is highly questionable, you have no argument. You pirated it regardless of how much you want to mince words you fucking turd. At least have the balls to admit it instead of being a mealy mouthed little dipshit.

I find the ending to TDK to be masterfully done for either eventuality. Leaving it as it is, you still get across the challenge Bruce has in trying to save his father's city. The people may not understand him; even hate him for his sacrifices, but at the end of the day, no one else can bring any justice like the image of Batman. Dent was their only shot, and Bruce Wayne's too, and The Joker killed that hope stone dead.

He has always been a necessary evil in the mythos, and the dark phyrric victory in this instance highlights that fact. Just as with Hancock, if Bruce retired without anyone taking his place, be it the legal or vigilante route, people would soon change their tune.

Thanks for dodging the point. Where's your evidence that they do it weekly?

nickolay1 wrote: Yeah, totally similar. There certainly hasn't been any change in investigative techniques, police tactics, the scope of the media, social attitudes, etc.
So? You were the one claiming that the mob wouldn't use the strategy they did, when in fact it IS a proven tactic. I'm not claiming it's a good one.

nickolay1 wrote: A heightened security situation in the city doesn't mean that trusted courthouse security personnel would have a very difficult time of carrying a concealed gun through.
Which contradicts my point ... how? I said that that the security person would have a better chance than a civilian. And you refute that by ... saying a security person wouldn't have a difficult time getting through?

I saw this over the weekend (finally). I was speechless. I would not have known that was Heath Ledger had I not already been told who was playing the Joker. He was downright disturbing.

I may need to see it again but offhand I can't think of anything I didn't particularly like about the film.

Something I said to a friend of mine was, "How many climaxes did that damn thing have? I kept thinking it was going to wrap up and it didn't." But not in a bad way like how Return of the King goes (which I understand) but in a good way that kept pulling me back in for more.

See it in IMAX if you can. It's revolutionary that way, trust me. I shall try and catch it that way again, but it's fully booked at the London one for the next week or two.

The funny thing about the wrapping up is, I actually thought the Batpod chase was the final scene, despite the fact that I knew it wasn't because of all the other stuff missing at that point. It did remind me of the finale to the Burton film what with Batman playing chicken with The Joker and being shot at.

I meant to go see it in an IMAX but the one where I live was sold out for several days at the time and I was impatient. I might go and see it again if I can get tickets in a reasonable timeframe.

Apparently, Dark Knight kicked major ass and took some names at the box office again: it has passed $3*10^8 more quickly than any other film, and it looks on track to outgross Titanic. Iron Man has grossed $315 million in the last two months, and Dark Knight is poised to pass it after just two weeks.

Just seen this film. It was very, very good, Ledger made a very fucked up villain. How'd Scarecrow get out, though? I thought he was bagged in the first film?

I won't say it's better than Iron Man, but it's not far behind. I very nearly shouted 'shoot the bastard down' when Batman was charging Joker on that bike, though.

No, Scarecrow was stun-gunned in the first film my Racheal, then rode off on his horse.

Gordon mentioned the amount of effort that was going to be needed to find Crane, round up the Arkyum inmates, and secure the narrows.

Actually, this part sort of confused me. What happened to Batman when he was charging the Joker? He had him and then just careened the Bat-pod around and crashed.

The Joker was trying to get Batman to hit him and kill him. All part of his plan to make people reject their core values.

Honestly, good as Iron Man was - and it was very, VERY good - I can't even compare it here. This is kind of like comparing Heat to Street Kings. For one thing, I can think of many ways the former can be made even more awesome, which meant it didn't live up to the hype in my mind, not that it wasn't an amazing experience. Here, TDK surpassed the hype by a mile. I can't think of the last film, let alone blockbuster, to do that.

And I sorely hope this beats the shit out of Cameron's love film.

Yeah, did you miss Joker yelling "Hit me!" and Batman yelling "No!"

Burton's Batman would kill in extreme circumstances, like when he took out the poison factory. I was ok with that but some of my Batman-loving friends find that intolerable. In the modern comics, Batman's refusal to kill is not only his moral anchor but the only reason why Gordon doesn't take him down as a vigilante. Nolan's Batman is more like that Batman.
