On the one hand, he was making himself something of a target. On the other hand, it was the best way to insure that none of the Guardsmen opened fire on the worthless kroot in a fit of well-intentioned homicide.

Gyllia focused on the conversation again, after transmitting the message. "We came with open minds; It was you who fired the first shot, with the techpriest who tried to kill 2 Inquisitors."

"Lord Commissar!" one of the officers called out. "One of the inquisitor's just voxed! The attack is suspended. We're to maintain the perimeter and cease fire!"

Prius grunted. "So maintained the damned perimeter, captain. I'm going in." He looked around, locating a vox operator. "You! You're coming with me."

When the vox operator reached his side, he took the transmitter in hand. "This is Ristani. Requesting location for rendezvous."

"He was not our doing. He was subverted by what you call the chaos powers..." it said, "An unfortunate side effect of civil rights... the cults are growing on this world.

“We – I and Lord Inquisitor Vonrilyental -had hoped for you to locate and destroy his handlers first, but instead you came here…” it said, “an unfortunate setback, but not a major concern for us. If you had attacked the new shipyards, that would have proven annoying…”

"Shipyards?

So it's all a misunderstanding?

"My part?" it asked, "oh yes."

The Iron Man let her go, resulting in an unceremonious drop to the floor.

"Incidentally, if it's any consolation, the Magos down there really is unhinged. We keep him around for when we get guests from mars. He goes on about how the place is non-functional, and how they'll continue to pray and so on, so forth."

Gyllia got up with the aid of her Mechadendrites. "So, who is in charge?"

“I am,” came a voice, and a set of double doors opening into this room slid aside silently, “my dear,” its owner said, striding out from between them. He was tall, and surprisingly he held himself well, despite clearly being ancient and venerable. His white and purple robes hung down to the floor, and he smiled, wrinkled face surprisingly warm as he did so. It was hard to imagine that this man had been in a wheelchair until a few months ago. His formerly bald head now sported new hair growth, and where records would say he had an augmetic eye, he now sported one that looked convincingly real, but for a slight blue glow from within.

“Taran Vonrilyental, Lord of the Emperor’s Most Holy Orders of the Inquisition at your service,” he said. Two more Iron Men followed with him, neural shredders holstered at their mechanical hips, “how may I help you?”

Gyllia bowed automatically, even while mentally noting that, with most of her face replaced with a complex array of tubes and grills, she couldn't be considered anyone's 'dear.' "M'lord Inquisitor. Not to put too fine a point on it, but what in the name of the Omnissiah" -The gold robot groaned- "Is going on?"

“Tell me,” he asked, “have you ever heard of Cyrus Gamma? A world near here? It would probably interest you to learn that it was once, a few millennia ago, the site of a major battle against Chaos. It was propagated by a device of great power, created by the Eldar, or so we believe, to project, for some reason, the stuff of the warp into inanimate matter… With it a demonic presence can manifest on the material plane most easily.

"It was in searching for that artifact on Adraxis last year that I found another relic, this one something no one had ever dreamt of finding. Not even a Standard Template Construct Archive would be as valuable. A dark age neural interface teaching machine… In it resided the data to begin constructing almost everything that has been forgotten… from our friends here,” he gestured, “to a warship smaller than a Lunar class cruiser that puts a space marine battle barge to shame…”

Gyllia had to physically restrain herself from making the sign of the Aquila. "That... That'd be one of the greatest finds in the history of the Imperium. But why hide it out here? Couldn't the forgeworlds make better use of this knowledge?"

“Or they could just lock it away and take centuries to implement it,” he said, “and that is not what the Emperor would want done with it, I’m sure you’d agree. While the Imperium was never conceived of as a free society, it was never intended to turn into what it is now either. The Imperium is poised to fall, unless action is taken to protect it. That is why I need help, and recruits. As an Inquisitor Lord, I can get much done, but not enough…” he said, “despite looking younger than I am, I only have a few decades left in me. I brought you and your associates here because this needs to be spread far quicker than the Adeptus Mechanicus would permit,” he said, “you know this to be true…”

Gyllia nodded grudgingly. "It's really not me you want to talk to. There are a number of Inquisitors- Well, assaulting this compound, to be honest. They're capable of making decisions like this."

“And you?” he said, “I’m sure you could be more than useful yourself – and you really should see about getting some prettier implants, -” he tapped the faintly glowing eye, “But first, if you would be so kind as to summon them.”

“You should also tell them that there’s enough of my compatriots,” he indicated the Iron Men, “in here to slaughter them all fifty times over. I have no reason to want to ambush them.”

<Negotiate, eh? This had better be good. I lost track of the number of times I nearly died today, and a lot of others haven't been so lucky. What do they want us to do?>

Arteries Cait looked down at the blocked passage, really this wasn't going to stop him, the rivve blades cut a small opening, as he continued on, secondary communications network hub, a pulse here would overload the controls for the servo skulls, fry the minds of the currupted tech priests, and cause feedback and pain throught the whole complex perfect destraction, as he made his way to the center...

Nathan chuckled ruefully at the communication.He grabed the vox from a guardsman and thumbed the channel to the one Gix was on.

"Inquisitor Gix this is Inquisitor Talstrem"

The other guardsmen that were with him and the commisar turned and stared at him in horror.

"I hve no idea where I am in relation to you so if we are going to parley with the forces inside the place I need a location to go to. Talstrem out."


He looked at the men and he held up his badge of office.He grinned at the Commisar ."I didnt feel well enough to argue with you earlier ....well we`ll write the Chimera off as lost in combat hmm?"

Prius trudged through the temple, relying on instinct to guide him where communication has failed.

His finely honed instincts and the trail of bloody bodies eventually led him to Gix...

"This is Gix, I will be relaying coordinates and a map momentarily." He switched off his vox. "Severa, send out location and a map to our comrades. Make sure to highlight the perimeter." The navy officer nodded and went to work. Gix reactivated his vox. "I suggest that I enter to parlay. Being sensitive, a telepath can contact me directly as I evaluate the situation. As I am junior, I am the one that is most expendable."

"Jolan this is-"

"Not a good idea, I know," Jolan finished. "The stakes are too damn high. Graviton weapons, Men of Iron, vortex weaponry, renegade Tech Priests, and whatever else awaits us in the Temple. What's in their could destabilize the whole sector or it could improve the Empire. We have to know what is going on so we can make the right call. And the junior inquisitor is the one that is most expendable." He handed her his force rod. "Keep is safe for me." He keyed on his vox. "This is Gix, I am entering alone. May the Emperor protect."

Prius limped up as Gix made his declaration. "If you would have me, I could accompany you, Lord Inquisitor. It would be best to have someone to watch your back."

"Commissar, I can't say that I surprised by the offer, but if they betray me I am unlikely to survive unless a primarch is with me. If you join me, you must contain yourself. We are going in to negotiate. That said, if I am going to die, it would please me to die in the company of a true servant of the Emperor, such as yourself."

He nods at the compliment, pleased despite himself. "You will speak and I will observe, Lord Inquisitor. Shall we go?"
