Waiting for Katr_Kana for his response.

EDIT: Wait, strike that. Anyone in the blockade fleet will do just fine.

On the issue of the nukes being clean, Shep apparently doesn't shoot gamma ray-utilizing nukes but "old fashioned" fallout producing atomics. If you go by his AAR.

I wouldn't call that fucking his story up, I'd call that roleplaying.

Wait, what. Where's that quote from, Dan? Where did Steve say that? (I never saw that line in any of his previous posts, did I miss one?)

Steve wrote:Because we don't really approve of dropping any nuclear ordnance in those conditions.
We are operating in a SCI FI setting, where we have a shitload of planets available to us; and where planetary governments are fucking possible; allowing even a shithole world like pendleton to have omgfuckoff armies that require relatively large military investments to invade and defeat.

So that leaves either:

1.) Bringing over OMGFUCKOFFHUGE armies from our planets -- IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FUTURE, THERE IS ONLY THE IMPERIAL SHROOMANIAN GUARD AND SHROOMGUNS!

or

2.) Using excessive force multipliers, like orbital fire support from weapons that can blow a large warship in half over appreciable distances against planetary targets.

I don't certainly see the Anglicans shipping in several million troops from the Anglican Royal Marines to take over pendleton; so you plan to invade and hold the planet via option #2; so screaming about Shepistani firesupport is the pot calling the kettle black.

Not to mention that so what if the Anglican Royal Marines have power armor? The Pendletonians/Astarians will just use their 7,000 nuclear SAM sites in surface-to-surface mode against any large concentrations of troops. So either you blast a significant fraction of the planet off the map or you see rising casualty clocks like shown on STARSHIP SHROOMPERS.

SKY MARSHAL RENSCH RESIGNS.

EDIT: Not to mention that the SCALE is much larger; so that simply killing 1.8 million Pendletonians in a limited incursion is....not excessive by the scope of the game.

The fun thing about energy weapons of any setting is that they can have power levels. You can use them to charbroil a city or to knock out a launcher with a pinpoint shot. It's not a case of "do nothing" or "nuke shit". You may have noticed that being brought into play in the remark about light batteries engaging.

Sure, it's better for the inhabitants of the city of Dodgadishu if you only fire 15-20 ton energy bolts at a target set of 10-20 targets, instead of firing one huge 50 kiloton bolt to do the job.

But what happens after you fire hundreds to thousands of bolts during the large scale invasion phase? The city's going to look just as bad as if it had been hit by the single big bolt.

You both raise good points (which are also somewhat arbitrary, given the flexibility of the setting). At the end of the day though, I personally have to say that nearly half a gigaton worth of firepower blasting new holes in your little moon says "surrender now or face the consequences" far better than pin-point energy lances that might give wannabe-insurrectionists wrong ideas about the actual capabilities of the enemy (or their determination to use them) and, consequently, the viabilities of resistance.

There's something to be said for making a forceful point now so that you don't have to kill a whole bunch of people later. And frankly, even in-context the viability of the Anglian approach should be very much in doubt. This is, what, the seventh time you've come around to open a can of whoopass on Pendleton? Clearly those previous times the scalpel didn't make them see the error of their ways -- so maybe it was time to give the slavers a taste of the broadsword and see how they react to that.

I'd prefer, though, if in the future you could cut down on the outrageous flamboyance. The United Solarian Sovereignty is not the Sovereignty of Shroomania, and I'd like to keep the men in pink tutus and the ridiculous last names out of my polity.

Which would be why I didn't yell at you. I love Shroom like a brother for his insane sense of humour, but it's not usually what I'd write and I wouldn't want to insist on having the distinction enforced.

Their white flags won't stop Shepistani nukes or Bragulan K-bolts.

We kid, we kid. The Frenchmen of the 35th century (hopefully) aren't as cowardly as the Frenchmen of the 20th. :P

You mean the same Frenchmen who shouted Ile non passerant pas! (sp?) and fought ferociously against the Germans at the bloodbath of Verdun? The same who spent four years having an entire generation subjected to a slaughter of such magnitude that they still suffer demographically from it? Those French cowards?

Bah, friggin' "France surrenders" jokes are like 7 years out of date now. :P

Those jokes may be horribly out of date, but you can be certain that there'll be unfunny idiots like myself using and abusing them well into the future.

I do know a fair bit about France's performance during World War I, and I actually studied France's demographic collapse after World War I in some detail during high school. I just have a terrible sense of humour. :P

I thought making terrible jokes was the whole point of this game. At least, it looks like it from some of the Shepistani posts.
