Anguirus wrote: One rather disturbing anecdote was from a friend of mine describing a news article (so take it with a grain of salt) in which two women entered a theatre playing 300, loudly pronounced that this was the wrong film and a piece of shit, and began to exit. A man stood up from his seat, cried "This is Sparta!" and kicked one of the women in the chest. Now, I rather hope this story isn't true, but what bothered me is that my friend thought it was funny as hell.
News article my ass. It was a lame joke posted on another forum. I saw the damn post myself.

Well, good! I was hoping it was just some Internet flotsam.

Some parts of the movie may be spoiled and all that

You can see how the style and speeches in the movie are pretty much like in the movie, e.g. the Spartans in the movie dress like the ones in the comic; and Xerxes looks like he does in the comic.

Plus, the speeches about freedom.

Mr. Frank Miller must be a fucking frigging genious to write a movie that's an Iraq allegory in 1998! Clearly, we must find out his way of how he can foresee the future.

He must've been fucking the Oracle of Delphi!

My god! Look at Xerxes' codpiece!

(can you email me the rest of the scans?)

Oh yeah, because all of the white-supremacist Spartan-wanking and neo-con "clash of civilizations, east vs west" bullshit began only on the day the Iraq invasion started, right?

On the topic of 300 being gay, I nearly laughed my ass off at the number of times in the movie discussing how well a soldier can "thrust" and the theme of wanting men to "kneel before the King"

Yeah, I'd say 300's pretty gay. That evening Village People's "Together" was playing on the radio, the imagery seemed to fit pretty well.

Disregarding whether it was racist or not it still was one of the best movies action and graphics wise i´ve seen in a long time. Every single image of this movie is a beautiful sight. I´ll go see it again on thursday. This time in English because the German voice acting, as usual, sucks.

It's a movie to watch with your brain firmly switched in the "off" position. I thought it was beautiful, violent, bombastic, and in general a great ride. Going to see it again later this week (I saw it last Thursday)- at IMAX, if it's not sold-out again.

In my eminently qualified opinion, and judging by those comic scans, yes, 300 is pretty damned gay (Xerxes, rawr <3). It's almost enough to redeem it of the nauseating, Gibsonesque FREEEEDOOOMMM!!! crap.

You have to wonder about someone who went: "Hey, let's take a story about Spartans and, you know, gay it up some more!"

At least there were no boys in the film.

I don't know why, but looking at the Spartans made me think of Native American braves all of a sudden.

It seems like they did a great job on improving the graphics from the comic. The comic just looks pretty boring me.

I don't know, my brain mustn't have shut down properly, because I hated it. The worst crime was that it was too repetitive and dragged out. Some scenes lasted way too long, and most action sequences were composed of very similar shots going in slow-motion with every spear thrust.
