Granted this will vary depening on load and barrel length but serves as a good average to go by. Megajoule-range slugthrowers are around, easy to get, have been around for a very fucking long time.

I deserve that. I really suck at weight conversions. Looks like its 63 Kilojoules for a 35 gram slug roughly. God-damned metric system...

Then you have something off.

KE = 1/2 * M * V^2

1 oz slug = 0.028349519 kg

.5 * 0.028349519 * (600^2) = 51.02913485 J

to get into MJ range you need to go to tank level weapons. The 120mm M829A2 DU APDS is a 4.92 Kg DU penetrator that has a muzzle velocity of 1680 mps = KE 6945187.723 J or 6.945187723 MJ
