That game is definatly beyond alpha stage. I'd say beta.

And I think I just filled the cup. :D

I love how the game is supposed to figure out how to get a creature to move and work.

He'll have his work cut out.

I'm guessing roughly 50% of every species made by an SDnetter will have tentacles somewhere...

And the other 50% will be catgirls, presumably. Then they'll meet and make sweet love.

I'm going to make a citrus race! :)

My race will be like the Shadows. My secondary species (or spies) will look like spectre (with colorchanging skin). Shadow vessels will move across the world, over the dark sand of the destroyed and schorched planet.

I second this. If he pulls it off, SimCity and The Sims or even Populous and Black & White will look tame.

This is...this is really awesome. What about a civilization of furry lizardmen who dress like Romans and love the sitar? It's...it's possible!

...! I must have this game!

I do hope the game would be more like Civilization than The Sims.

No The Sims in it, I think the furthest it will be will be getting him food and water, by the time your dealing with GuyS, plural, its allready in Populus mode.

Necromancy, I know...

But I think a little video link might be good enough reason to revive this topic, don't you?

GDC Direct feed
You need to register, or do the bugmenot thing.

Spore looks very impressive im motion. We finally get to see Wright's Tripod move.

That is truly amazing. What a great idea for a game. This is worth buying any of the new systems for, assuming that it's pulled off reasonably well.

A PC version is confirmed and rumors are floating about a Xbox360 version.

I'm getting the PC version.

Yeah, something of that complexity and depth /belongs/ on the PC. And I am soooo getting that....

I vote that the video was worth necroing.

And I've got to say, DAMN. I'd heard about this before, and seen some screenshots, but seeing this in action is damn impressive.

indeed, everything being procedurally created, none of it scripted......

Wright has done it again....

I eagerly anticipate the game, and hope it comes out for consoles and PC's (I'll probably buy both versions)

Must have! Definitely!
I wonder what will be the game restrictions? As in what you can and can't develop with your species, genetically speaking...

Going by Wright's description, you're limited by the laws of physics and little else. The only thing I can think of is maybe they don't let you place those little parts everywhere, though I don't see why not.

How much will work in the game is another matter. I can't see that giant tweety bird thing living very long. You can get as fancy as you want, but if your little dude doesn't live long enough to reproduce no matter how hard you try, well, sorry on you.

Game mechanics proving themselves to be too complex, given the time "available" for creating and releasing the game. Well, that's my bet. After all, the possibilities provided by the imagination are infinite, but, unfortunately I might add, our skills with programming aren't, which leaves us with restricted games... Though there's always the chance that, if the game gets profitable enough (and I'm already hoping/assuming it will), then an expansion pack with more "choices" available is a safe bet, I'd say...

Indeed... Note to self: start researching books, for future reference, which explain easily the way genetic life "works"

If the laws of physics and natural/sexual selection are all the boundaries in the game, then even better.

Catgirls with tentacles ftw.

This sounds very exciting, and its well done, I'm definitely investing in this.
