Since you are going to the Titan Missile Museum and the Pima Air and Space Museum you'll probably drive by the air craft boneyard. I think there are tours available through the Pima Air and Space Museum but it sounds like you already have a lot on your plate and you'll see plenty of air craft just at the museum.

Well the Pima air and space museum was originally not on the trip. We were told we would have one free afternoon in/around Tucson. I had a look on the website and said "it's a pity we aren't going to Pima Air and Space." Once I had explaiuned what that was (and the Boneyard) most of the group said "hell yeah we want to see that!"

Re: Travelling to Arizona, Advice Requested
I was in AZ just a few days ago.
The weather there right now can drop down to 0 celcius at night, highs at around 20. It is likely to rain, particularly in the evening but it should be light and of low duration. You are from the UK. The lack of humidity WILL be an issue for you. Chapped lips. Nose bleeds. Drink lots of water, particularly before bed, because you will wake up dehydrated.
The passport thing is important everywhere, but you have an accent and the police are colossal assholes.
All the places you plan to visit are awesome. If you have any free time whatsoever, the Pheonix Zoo is fantastic, though I dont know what will be on exhibit right now. The opera and phoenix symphony are also rather good.
Lastly, if you are at ASU and see these guys

Give them Ben Allen's regards and PM me with their facial expressions.

Well if I see them I'll pass that on but I dunno if it's likely:D Thanks for the advice on drinking water before bed.

I love passing on messages to friends via improbable proxies. It is unlikely, but possible.Eternal_Freedom wrote:Well if I see them I'll pass that on but I dunno if it's likely:D Thanks for the advice on drinking water before bed.
You're welcome. It gets really uncomfortable if you dont. Other things... Apache Junction. If you have seen The Hills Have Eyes, it is like that. Nothing but inbred tweekers there. Avoid at all costs.

If you are going to the Pima Air and Space Museum, pack lots of water with you. It's a lot of walking around (the place is huge!) and you'll probably not want to buy water there. It's well worth visiting though.Eternal_Freedom wrote:Well the Pima air and space museum was originally not on the trip. We were told we would have one free afternoon in/around Tucson. It sounds like you are spending a lot of time in Tucson, actually. Are you going to the University of Arizona? That's where I work. Are you interested in places to eat? Because I can give you recommendations for good places to eat in town if you want.
Also, if you are going to Kitt Peak especially... seriously, have all your documentation with you. This isn't because you need it to get into the observatory, but rather because there is a Border Patrol check point between Tucson and Kitt Peak. One trip we had a pair of Chinese graduate students in the car with us that left theirs behind and the Border Patrol challenged them. Fortunately, the Border Patrol guy new full well they were harmless and mostly just did the song and dance of making them get out of the car to make sure they remembered to keep their documents on them, but technically, the Border Patrol could have arrested them. If you get a jerk, you'll need to prove right there on the spot that you're above board.

Thanks for that, I'll be sure to note that one when we compile our full trip guide. As for the university, I tihnk we are doing some stuff either there or in connection with them, it's been a while since I saw the itinerary.
Yes, suggestions of places to eat would be excellent. Our hotel is in Tucson near the university as basing ourselves there meant we could so more stuff than stayign around Phoenix (apparently, that's what my lecturer said anyhow).

Re: Travelling to Arizona, Advice Requested
Well, the temperatures have bumped back up to the winter standard so it hasn't been been as far below freezing the last couple of nights. The humidity has dropped and I've been finding it useful to have some sort of lip balm since my lips have been drying out and cracking. So that might be something to add to your list of stuff. They usually have varying degrees of sun block built in them which is also a good thing to have, just in case.
