Ah, that makes a lot more sense when you put it that way.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Not to nitpick, but...no. Dooku and Palpatine and canonically above him, and, by extension, Yoda and Mace. Then there are various pre-PT Force users I would put above Obi Wan; Revan, Exar Kun, Naga Sadow, Bane, Kas'im (maybe), Lord Vitiate, etc. And after the OT, there's still Luke, Katarn, Kyle, Caedus...compared to the Jedi Order's entire history, Obi Wan is tops. But he's hardly at the top.Solauren wrote:
The only other Jedi/Force users we've seen that surpass him in that regard is Anakin Skywalker, and Galen 'Starkiller' Marek.
Why would the Force be contained to a single galaxy? Is that not a rather arbitrary limitation to a mystical energy, possibly sentient, that in many cases transcends space and time?cadbrowser wrote:My understanding of the SW Universe is that it was in a "...galaxy far, far away..." wherein an aspect/attribute of that galaxy was the force. Whatever Jedi Master comes through to Earth Relm...which is in an entirely different galaxy...would not be able to use the force.
Unless, the force is "upgraded" to permeate the entire galaxy.

I took the forcelessness of the vong to assume that it was exclusive to one galaxy. I am taking a leap in logic here, but I can see how people would think that.

If the Vong (sp?) did not use the Force then how'd they learn of it? Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Jedi are tough and/or are able to disperse kinetic energy over a wide enough area/time to sustain a blow that should punch straight through them (Grievous's punch/kick) or splatter them on someone's windshield (AOTC Anakin falling onto Zam's speeder). I'm assuming they're just "naturally" tough when you consider that when Dooku drags a platform onto Obi-Wan in RotS, Kenobi is unconscious as the platform lands on him, then moves him several feet.Solauren wrote:4 - During the fist fight in front of Grevious's fighter, when they go hand to hand, Kenobi is able to block all of Grevious's hand to hand attacks, including a few directly at him. Despite Grevious punching hard enough to dent the armor on his own Starfighter.
On a related note, in the MK movie (which seems to show pretty low-end feats in the MK verse), Lui Kang is kicked through a 3-4 foot thick brick wall (holy fuck I love that scene) and is only mildly stunned by the event.
Obi-Wan didn't bend his arm in the movie. But considering what a concentrating Jedi can do, even in the movies, I wouldn't put it past him to be able to accomplish this. But the point isn't really his toughness. It's that Jedi are really only fast enough to block quick attacks when the plot demands it. They seem just as prone to surprise and performing idiotic actions as anyone else and even normal idiots such as Jango Fett are able to smack them around. Really, it's mostly luck that Obi-Wan is even still alive by the time he gets to Grievous.5 - It's mentioned that Grevious's body armor is the same grade as Starfighter armor, and can withstand up to Starfighter grade weapons. Kenobi blocks a shock from Grevious, BENDS GREVIOUS'S FOREARM, and then opens up the protective case around Grevious's organs. Proceed with the entire 'knocked to the edge, using blaster to kill Grevious', scene.
I agree. I was mainly arguing that "lightsaber + force != automatic win." MK combatants shrug off gunfire, can teleport, cut people in half with their hats, and freeze people solid. Not to mention, there are telekinetics in MK and all characters are capable of blocking/dodging them.I'd say when deep in the Force, Kenobi is easily on the same level as anything we've seen in Mortal Kombat.
I mildly enjoyed TFU, but Starkiller was a masturbation fest as is much of what I heard of and read in the EU. A lot of the shit-pulled in the novels/games is just way above and beyond anything remotely shown in the movies. I believe the Clone Wars cartoons (the CGI ones) are directly influenced by Lucas and the Jedi there seem about on par with the movies. Lucas obviously wanted Jedi to be decidedly mortal and prone to the same lapses in judgement as the rest of us. Against redshirts, they can wipe out armies (weren't the losses in the AOTC arena 200:1 in favor of the Jedi?). But the MK combatants have names and anyone with a name can be a threat to a Jedi. The only other Jedi/Force users we've seen that surpass him in that regard is Anakin Skywalker, and Galen 'Starkiller' Marek.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
According to wiki, the Yuuzhan Vong were stripped of their ability to touch the Force when they destroyed their homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar. Judging from Zonama Sekot, which is believed to be a child of Yuuzhan'tar, it had quite a powerful Force presence.lance wrote:I took the forcelessness of the vong to assume that it was exclusive to one galaxy. Hmmmm.. SO no consensus yet hm?
I submit to you that Obi Wan Kenobi would be pretty hard pressed to fight Master Raiden.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Actually, it gets down to this with Obi-Wan in Mortal Kombat
His lightsaber SHOULD be able to slice any of them up. We've seen them cut throught Star Wars Grade materials designed to stop blasterfire (i.e Cutting into the bridge on the Trade Federation ship, during Phantom Menace).
With a Lightsaber, Jedi can deflect some pretty powerful and exotic attacks.
i.e Luke has deflected AT-AT canon fire (reference - Dark Empire)
i.e Lightsabers can stop Force Lighting, and by implication Force Judgement (Light side Lightning) (numerous sources)
So it get's down to a question of speed, and Jedi Precog
When someone with teleportation abilites in mortal kombat teleports, it's usually to get behind the guy for a sneak attack. During teleportation, most Kombat fighters are rather vulnerable. Will Kenobi know where someone is about to materialize and have a lightsaber blade waiting for them?
We've seen Kombat fighters do this (I can't tell you how many time's I've used Sub-Zero to freeze a teleporter then Uppercut the teleporter into the middle of next week), so Kenobi should be able to. (We've seen no evidence of Pre-Cog in Mortal Kombat, even from the deities)
As for speed, is Kenobi fast enough to avoid Mortal Kombat attacks, and hit them?
If he is on par with them, then he has as much chance as any other Kombatant.
If he is above them in speed, then odds are, he'll take any fight he's in. Nothing ends a fight like someone dodging your attack and then cutting your arm off.
If he is below them in speed, he's probably going to lose. What good is being able to take a hit from Shao Khan, if you're not fast enough to avoid most of them or hit him back? (No, I'm not sour over how hard he is to beat at the end of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, honest).

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Ah.. Well, the thing is, he's probably only on par with them because of his pre-cog, rather than his pre-cog being an extra advantage in addition to speed. So, he could cut Shao Kahn's hammer in two. . . but I still see the other Kombatants being powerful and speedy enough to all be significant challenges to him. Also, Obi Wan will have no idea what Jax is doing, even with Pre-Cog, when he punches the ground, and as far as I know, there are no undead monsters like Scorpion in Star Wars. Also, I seem to remember, although only vaguely, that Raiden can combine his teleportation with an uppercut or other attack.
Fu Jin, the wind god should be Kenobi's most significant enemy with his speed and his power over the wind.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Why would Obi-Wan's pre-cog be limited? The Force allows him to sense/see future events and read emotions and sometimes thoughts.

I"m not saying it is limited, I'm just saying it's not a no-limits fallacy.

That's all fine and dandy, no one is saying it is. Why are the actions of Jax special?

Don't ask me! I didn't come up with the "Force"! George Lucas did. Ask him. I was just saying that my understanding is that it is currently only known (as with the George Lucas cannon) in THAT respective galaxy he created.Luke Skywalker wrote:Why would the Force be contained to a single galaxy? Is that not a rather arbitrary limitation to a mystical energy, possibly sentient, that in many cases transcends space and time?
It's a rather moot point however, due to the fact I was informed that the force would be allowed to travel to Earth Relm as to not be unfair to the Jedi.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
Without the Force, Jedi are just regular people you fucking moron.
That's like saying "OK Mortal Combat guys, you have to go to this galaxy and fight these super being Jedi, but none of your special moves or powers work."

No shit dumbass...that's why I brought it up; because it wasn't touched on.
You should read where I understood that it was assumed to be "OK"...geez. Talk about fucking morons.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
A: What moron would need to touch on it in a Vs debate, as taking the power/weapons away from one side is patently stupid. "OK guys Samurai vs Knights" "Do the Samurai get their weapons?"
B: The way you framed and worded you last post seemed to be mocking the idea as stupid and insinuating you don't agree with it.

Re: A Jedi Master in Mortal Kombat
THIS MORON! GOD DAMN...I already alluded that it is in my nature NOT to fucking assume anything. So my original posting of this useless fact that I brought in was called a strawman and pointless. I conceeded to that.
Did you not go back and reread?
For your "B"...No, I wasn't mocking the already assumed stance; I was mocking my retarded original post. Seems you shouldn't fucking assume either.
You're essentially beating a dead horse. Have fun with that.
