Daala DID NOT SLEEP WITH TARKIN!!!!!!
If you read the context of the statment it is Daala musing about the other Imperial Officers and their attitudes. BTW Tarkin had the officer who suggested this killed so whether or not if it true niether Daala or Tarkin apresiated it. Held her back, he put her in charge of the Empires most secret instalation! It seems to be his most trusted position to me.
The problem with the EU is that I get a lot of my information from message boards such as this one. I haven't read a lot of EU books, but know the general plot lines and new technology and stuff.
I remember someone saying on another message board for a Homeworld SW TC that Daala slept with Tarkin, Tarkin stole her tactics, and he assigned her to the Maw facility to guard it. But his real intentions was to keep her under wraps and use her tactics and such for his own advantage.
In other words, he told the Emperor of all the great tactics and got all buddy-buddy with him. That was why he was assigned to command the DS. I find that very believable that he just killed that guy to gain her trust and manipulate her by putting her in charge of a secret installation.
The fact is that anyone could have guarded that installation. It was so secret that no one else in the Empire knew of it, there was almost no way Rebels could have accidentally found it, and this remained that way for years and years after Tarkin's death.
So why else would he have put her there if he did not use her for his own advantages? He could have been less of an asshole and actually present her tactics to the Emperor and say it was hers, and then he could have recommended her to be commanding significant forces on the battlefield.
Besides, how would sleeping with him benefit the Empire?
It wouldn't. But it sure as hell benefits Palpatine.
And IIRC, Leia was chained to Jabba's um...recliner. Which means that if she hadn't killed him, anyone trying to cut her loose would get some of his tail in his face. Not exactly pleasant. Ergo, kill Jabba so that you can cut yourself loose without getting whacked.
She could have just gone on the other side behind him, have Artoo cut her chains, and then get the hell out. But she strangled him to death. Much more effort for someone that only licked her and then had here sit there doing nothing. He raped her.
He did use it though to further his own ends.
How? There is no way racism benefits an empire unless it is used to unite it. Like what Hitler did. And this did just the opposite. Everyone oppressed by the Empire joined the Rebellion.
By the way, it might be that most of the Imperial leaders aren't too comfortable about odd-looking aliens, but Palpatine should be less bigoted. For example, his Clone army was made by aliens who looked like they recently crashed in Roswell, and according to AoTC, the Death Star was designed under supervision of the mosquito-like Geonosians and the reptilian Neimoidians were almost instrumental in Palpatine's schemes.
Palpatine only used these aliens to fuel his takeover of the galaxy. That is all he used them for. This explains why none of these aliens are ever seen again. He probably had them all wiped out or enslaved or whatever, along with everyone else in the Senate and his whole "cabinet" of aliens and such.
