Thank you for the announcement. I can't really see the difference between "current mod" green and "mod emeritus" green unless I really stare at it, so I didn't notice what was going on.

Minimods are more of an Olive Green type color; regular Mods are sort of a Lime Green color. Slightly brighter than Minimods.

It's more noticeable when the board is busy with a bunch of various Mods and you look at the "who's online" section to compare the contrast.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Maybe more colors are needed? Green for regular mods, yellow for supermods, red for admins, anything besides this awful puke green for minimods?

How about hot pink? I think it would go nicely with the other colours.

Sela wrote:I freely admit I'm new here; but seems to me that Ghost Rider, fgalkin, and SirNitram were all mods that I'm quite familiar with. Just what was the standard used to judge activeness (assuming, of course, that its a matter of public record.)? It's just odd to me that these are some of the only mods that I'd ever actually noticed around the board.
It wasn't just activity level - check the top post again.

I dunno if regular mods need a different color, since they're all The Staff anyway. But yeah, if minimods are going to be a different shade of green, there could be a different shade used than this. Just a suggestion.

It is kind of hard to tell the difference unless you see a mod & minimod's name posted right next to each other. At first I thought a bunch of people just got made mods; right now the names look the way some links change color after you click them.

A bit of a shock and quite unexpected, but I can see the benefit of shaking things up every year or so to keep things from getting stagnant.

He doesn't, I hang out with him at least once a week or so and he's working on living the bachelor life in the big city and becoming a senior code monkey at Apple. I don't think he's seriously participated here in a long time.

EDIT: And for what it's worth, I think this is a good move. Between the Senate and the old guard moderating staff there was stagnation in the leadership around here that has now been corrected. In fact, I'd say it's a good idea to make these sorts of changes every year or so to make it so that moderators feel like it's a responsibility and not just a badge of status or some such.

I also suggest that one of the biggest problems with the Senate and Moderator staffs was that it had become a sort of in-crowd that fed upon itself with nominations and promotions based on being in the good graces of the sitting Moderators and Senators. In the future, it would probably make more sense to go back Mike simply picking people he thinks are capable and fuck public opinion on the matter. Despotism may not be fair, but it is certainly efficient.

Will there be any moves toward providing 'round the clock' mod staff for forums, in the way that History is well-covered by a geographically separate mod team? History is a tightly-moderated forum, and I think this is partly due to the constant coverage.

Round the clock would be very nice. That would provide some interesting job opportunities for our European and South Pacific members.

IIRC, the original moderating team and selection criteria was to get round-the-clock moderating if possible.

Update: Pablo Sanchez has also been removed at his own request, due to a lack of available time.
