The TSA and DHS, are in the middle of an overhaul that will cut the no fly list in half by June or July this year.
As it stands right now, if you want to remove your boy from the list it takes about 10 days to process the request and most times you can do it online.

Well, you do have Yoda as your avatar, who is one of the greatest rebel leaders in fiction and operated a training camp for terrorists. He's brought down one of the biggest empires in fiction. Given the sympathies of most Star Wars fans, I think there is reasonable basis to be more suspicious of them (profiling!).Darth Wong wrote: The day I discovered that my 8 year old son David is on the American Homeland Security Department’s “No Fly” list.

Boston Legal did an episode about this. Denny Crain, the raving Republican lawyer (who loves guns and has had lunch with Dick Cheney) was flagged on the "No Fly List". According to that episode, all the DHS does is put a name on the list. They don't associate any other information. If you happen to share a name with someone on the list, you're screwed.

At some point, they're going to put "John Smith" on that list, and then Greyhound's profits are gonna soar.
Seriously, however, I'd love to know if they actually *have* a plan for dealing with two people with identical names. Like, I dunno, Mohammad. Since it's the most popular name on earth and I have known about a dozen people named "Mohammad Mohamed" or variations thereof.

So does this mean the US thinks that China is part of Al Qaeda? Since Wong is a name I wouldn't associate with Arabs.

My old roommate was on the "No Fly List", and Customs basically told him it was simply because his last name was un-American, and that he was from Puerto Rico. Yet his parents, who work for a worldwide bank in NYC, and his brother, a Marine, have NEVER gotten flagged. So I guess they just pick and choose from some list of names.

Yeah it was great. We were in the terminal and the lady at the airline counter said in a small embarassed voice "they flagged you, probably because your last name is...*shrug*".Keevan_Colton wrote:unAmerican names...charming.
Then customs flat out said "if it doesn't sound American they might hold you back." We still got to board in time, but what a fucking insulting hassle.

Guess I'll skip any ideas of coming over in the ner future then. My name doesn't even sound English, much less so-called American.
Guess someone must have pulled some strings for Barak Obama not to get flagged everytime he tries to go on a plane. They might actually have to answer some questions if a Democratic Senator got pulled every couple of weeks.

Thin blood. Lived here all my life, so I'd probably be one of those people you'd see with at least a light jacket on. What can I say? (When I visited Nova Scotia and Newfoundland when I was younger in the summer, it was still too cold. They called the pools heated in our campgrounds, but they didn't feel heated to me. Anyway, welcome to my neck of the woods, Mike. Hope you and the kids enjoy all the attractions and that security doesn't hit you on the way out too (Orlando International Airport can be pricks with security too).Darth Wong wrote:Hello everyone, greetings from Orlando, Florida. The same thing that possesses hordes of other Canadians to vacation there every winter, I guess. There are endless jokes about that up here, like "in the winter, there are more Canadians in Florida than there are in Canada" (not actually true of course, though one past winter I could swear that half the people I knew had gone down there).Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Mike, what insanity possessed you to come to America's Wang of all places?

No, we were going to Baltimore from NY, I should have specified that earlier. I also think its crazy that he got flagged, and he was born and raised in the US whereas his parents who emmigrated here have never had this issue.SiegeTank wrote: But... Wait... So... Dammit, DW, I live down here and I don't find out you're visiting until I have to go back to work?!?
Ah, well, I'm sure you've got much better things to do on your vacation than put up with web denizens.
And, yeah, get to the airport early. OIA was fairly good last time I flew out, but that was a couple years ago, and I wasn't on any lists at the time (still shouldn't be, but you never know what some twit will do
