The TSA and DHS, are in the middle of an overhaul that will cut the no fly list in half by June or July this year.

As it stands right now, if you want to remove your boy from the list it takes about 10 days to process the request and most times you can do it online.

Boston Legal did an episode about this. Denny Crain, the raving Republican lawyer (who loves guns and has had lunch with Dick Cheney) was flagged on the "No Fly List". According to that episode, all the DHS does is put a name on the list. They don't associate any other information. If you happen to share a name with someone on the list, you're screwed.

Seriously, however, I'd love to know if they actually *have* a plan for dealing with two people with identical names. Like, I dunno, Mohammad. Since it's the most popular name on earth and I have known about a dozen people named "Mohammad Mohamed" or variations thereof.

And they would be right. I believe it was a thread on here, where 60 minutes interviewed people on the list, one of which was a US Soldier.
So does this mean the US thinks that China is part of Al Qaeda? Since Wong is a name I wouldn't associate with Arabs.

My old roommate was on the "No Fly List", and Customs basically told him it was simply because his last name was un-American, and that he was from Puerto Rico. Yet his parents, who work for a worldwide bank in NYC, and his brother, a Marine, have NEVER gotten flagged. So I guess they just pick and choose from some list of names.

Yeah it was great. We were in the terminal and the lady at the airline counter said in a small embarassed voice "they flagged you, probably because your last name is...*shrug*".

Then customs flat out said "if it doesn't sound American they might hold you back." We still got to board in time, but what a fucking insulting hassle.

Guess someone must have pulled some strings for Barak Obama not to get flagged everytime he tries to go on a plane. They might actually have to answer some questions if a Democratic Senator got pulled every couple of weeks.

No, we were going to Baltimore from NY, I should have specified that earlier. I also think its crazy that he got flagged, and he was born and raised in the US whereas his parents who emmigrated here have never had this issue.

And, yeah, get to the airport early. OIA was fairly good last time I flew out, but that was a couple years ago, and I wasn't on any lists at the time (still shouldn't be, but you never know what some twit will do

This no-fly list has been the subject of several stories, and the stupidity of it is mind-boggling. I believe dead people are still on it...
