Damn, nicely done by Ego. The first one is a pretty standard 'funny' comic, and the other sets up in a similar way...and then surprises you with a very emotional ending!
After Blizzard War 2, Brosef Discordlin forced the Social-Democratic Pegasi and the Kommunistic Derping Ponies to unite as the Social-Equestrian Discordianites. Henceforth, the Discordic Occupied Zone was ruled with an iron hoof.
EDIT: Shadow6. You should look at compression (yeah, yeah, I know, ironic coming form me). Some of the images look cropped up with white squares. This is due to the image host compressing the file in a automatic way.

Those, uh, "smoke ponies" or whatever they are are abso-freaking-lutely amazing. Skgoa, do you have the artist's main page for more?
I am a little curious why they all seem so sad (except Pinkie) but hot damn those are incredible.

The problem only occurs when the image has transparencies. For example, here is an image uploaded directly to Imgur:
And here is the same image, except I filled the background with white in Photoshop:
Now, you are correct that this has something to do with the compression (IIRC Imgur will automatically compress any file above 1 MB). I could single out each image where this occurs and either fill out the transparency or do my own compression first. However, considering I've automated the entire process using the Imgur API and a Deviantart gallery grabber I wrote, I would either have to go back and do the bad images individually or do the (costly) image manipulation programatically. Alternatively, I could try another image hoster - at the very least both Imageshack and Photobucket have APIs, and I know that Imageshack doesn't have the compression artifacting issues with this same image (not sure about larger filesizes). Regardless, for the moment at least, if the image interests you then you can just click through to the source (which is the image on Deviantart or Tumblr)
